MP3: illbehonest.com/Joy-from-Chris...
A massive battle that many true Christians face is getting joy from their performance and not from Christ... this is something that only leads to misery and failure. By God's Grace alone may we all be truly, fully satisfied on what Christ has done, and stop focusing on ourselves.
I'll Be Honest, will you?

As the person about quotes. You don't need to be timid or afraid. Don't use emotions to lead you to obey or search for God. He wants our mind and will to direct us to ask for His advice and help. Too many people, including myself, are controlled by our emotions.

Paul Washer opens with “I know Lord, there is no such things as a great man of God but only weak, pitiful, faithless men of the great, merciful God.” Then he prays for God’s Spirit to help him conform toward the likeness of Jesus. Then he adds “I’m so tired of just doing, reduced down how to how I perform and what I do...Jesus comes to me and says...to be conformed to My image”. “Everybody wants to do something when we ought to be wanting to be something”. 1) Romans 12:3 says “not to think of himself more than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgement, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.” 2) Paul says of himself and his companions in 1 Thessalonians 2:10 “you are witnesses, along with God, of how holy and righteous and blameless we behaved toward you who believe.” 3) David said: Psalms 6:9 “vindicate me , YHVH, according to my righteousness and integrity in me.” Psalms 16:2 “you are my Lord- I have no good apart from You.” Psalms 17:3 “ You have examined my heart. You have searched me at night. Though You test me, You find nothing. I resolved that my mouth will not sin.” Psalms 18:21 “ YHVH rewarded me for my righteousness. For the cleanness of my hands He repaid me.” Psalm 25:11 “ For Your Name’s sake, YHVH, pardon my guilt for it is great.” Psalm 25:18 “take away all my sins.” Psalm 32:5 “then I acknowledged my sin to You and did not hide my iniquity. I said: “I confess my transgressions to YHVH,” and You forgave the guilt of my sin.” 4) James 2:18 “show me your faith without works and I will show you faith by my works.” Be careful with false humility justifying their disobedience of God’s Laws and commandments. Who imitates Jesus -who imitates God (Ephesians 5:1) or who conforms to His image?but the one who walks and does all He commanded.

Christ's greatness is most clearly seen in His humiliation. Do you want to reach Heaven? - then you will have to go through the hell of humiliation! That is the price of Heaven! That is the price of exaltation - through humiliation. If you do not love humility, you are a proud monster!

But godliness when accompanied by contentment is a means of great gain. 1 Timothy 6:6..... Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means and I also know how to live in prosperity, in any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13. Joy is a byproduct of contentment! It is the great gain spoken of in 1 Timothy 6:6. Then Christ Jesus is the only source of Joy! Happiness is conditional on our circumstances. Joy is not effected by circumstance. Just ask Paul & Silas in the middle of a Philippian jail! Acts 16: 22-40.

I’m confused and troubled by this. The opener called something like over-sorrow for not getting it right idolatry, pointing to the only true joy as found in the finished work of Jesus - though holding up good sorrow that the Holy Spirit brings for not walking in the will of God. Maybe it was how the video was cut. He seems to focus on whether we’re true believers by how much we practice spiritual disciplines. Happy to be corrected if I’m wrong, it is welcome.

Yep, me too, there are different ways I edited videos a decade ago that I now wish I did not. As Hebrews 5:14 says, "...their powers of discernment trained by constant practice..." and so it is, I've had "practice" over the years prior to when I was a new believer. - James

Thank you for your honesty and explanation about the music! I , too, left a comment about the music not being needed before I read your explanation here...Yeah, like you, there are many things I wish I could go back and do over to better bring God glory...but can't, sadly... But if your worst "do-over" in life is only about editing music, man, you are pleasing God far more than I ever did , my friend! And THANK YOU for posting Paul Washers sermons, as he is one of the very few worth listening to!! God bless & keep it up !! :-)

I believe that we are saved by faith alone but as James states for this faith to saves us it must have good works, so basically we are saved by a living faith (that which comes with works) and nothing else only Living Faith but if your Faith is real you will have works, no works no faith, no faith no salvation

@@vladdragos501 okay, then by your definition, I need works to be saved. That goes against faith alone. Faith doesn’t equal works. It equals belief in Christ. If I need works to prove I have faith then it’s not faith alone. It’s faith plus works. Now, have you trusted Christ alone apart from works or are you looking to your works for proof or assurance that you are saved?

From what I recall Paul is trying to emphasis us not making an idol out of our performance...not to indicate that the believer does not bear good fruit, but that they don't make that fruit the source of their joy-Christ is the source.

I'll be honest. This is wonderful preaching, but the unwisely added music is worse than unnecessary; it competes for the preeminence. It borderlines on the very idolatry that Bro. Washer spoke of. Please give very prayerful consideration to leaving off the added flesh-stimulating music. Thank you.

We agree the music does not accompany or add to this clip. Many of these edits were made a long time ago and there is now way to go back and edit them, we removed about 10 old videos that were worse then this years ago, but opted to keep some up that were not as overpowering in the music, etc. Thanks for the feedback (Heb. 5:14).

@lahijalahija I dont understand? God says Israel in Ezekiel "I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws." Ones focus and belief about being a new creature does not make him so. There regeneration by the holy spirit of there stone heart and make them a new creature. "Assurance of the believer" by faith is beautiful doctrine showing Gods incredible mercy. Must consider John says to test self constantly to see if in the faith. Spirit fruit must be!
