***** Why would they do thar? I do know that the audio track in any movie or TV show is recorded separately and the film is silent. And that they synchronize and mix the two in post processing. But it seems actual lip syncing would be an extra, unnecessary step.

They still had to sing in a studio somewhere. As a comment above me mentions, it's very hard to film a musical scene without lip sycing or at least replacing the audio.

They aren't lip syncing. They are singing. But due to the way Hollywood productions are shot, it appears they are lip syncing. Prerecorded TV shows and movies are shot on silent film with an audio recorder running. In post production these two are synced and merged onto regular audio/video film or tape. Which is why they use the clapper device. As a synchronization point. Of course live TV is shot on regular audio/video tape or film and requires a different type of camera.
