Wow her evolution is crazy, I remember her as a bubblegum CCM girl from early 2000s and here she's a completely different woman

I recently had the challenge of sailing my boat back from Greece to the UK with no experience of captaining a boat. I am a massive fan of the civil wars and spent a road trip driving across America in an RV with that as my soundtrack. I wondered if that was going to be the same for my sailing adventure. I was struggling with finding the confidence to cover the thousands of miles of water and the complexity of arriving in ports with the covid restrictions, my lack of long term visas and language issues, outside of wondering if my boat and indeed myself was up to the task. I downloaded the album Venus from Joy just before departing. This song seemed to be the perfect anthem to my voyage. I kept hearing the line "I've got miles and miles to go before I sleep". It was the perfect motivation for me to continue. It took me nearly 80 odd days before I was done. Today I can sleep. Thank you Joy. Love you and your music.

her voice has a majestic, ethereal fluctuation and the way she always moves her hands, it's like she puts you in this trace and all you can do is hold on and enjoy the ride.

okay so music videos about big butts and money/drug/sex gets millions of views in a day, but THIS PURE PERFECTION GETS ONLY 27K VIEWS IN A MONTH????? no wonder why I hate this generation... Joy Williams deserves so much more recognition. she's one of the best artists ever tbh. I love her so much. 💖

The album is Venus. If Joy didn’t blow you away with her Civil Wars work this whole album is just amazing. Her voice and sincerity is almost painful. So good Wowwwwww

Oh, ghosts keep whispering Oh, the feather of a raven's wing turned white by the bird's cheeks Ooh, this chill, when it gonna leave my bones? Take the ache so I can go And be washed in the wilderness Oh, carry my body 'cross the frozen ground While the moon burns bright and the fire fades out I got miles and miles to go before I sleep Before I can feel anything, before I'm free I got miles and miles to go before I sleep Wind blows, covers every single track If I wanted to, I couldn't go back Oh, I just keep stumbling Oh, and it's a sinned kiss facing unforgiving winds Feel the cold, it's creeping in, oh And I just keep stumbling on Oh, carry my body 'cross the frozen ground While the moon burns I got miles and miles to go before I sleep Before I can feel anything, before I'm free I got miles and miles and miles Til the dark gives way to dawn Til the winter, can't hold on I'll crawl tonight, can't walk til I run I've got miles and miles to go before I sleep And I've got miles and miles to go before I weep Before I can dream or feel anything I got miles and miles to go before I sleep Oh, before I can feel anything, before I'm free I got miles and miles to go before I sleep Before I sleep

Wow!! Just Wow!! Joy WIlliams! I fell in love with your voice hearing it over the sparse accompaniment of a single acoustic guitar. I could only describe that sound as "haunting". The sound stayed with you for days. It was memorizing. But now on Venus, Joy opens up her pipes!!!!! With awesome arrangements behind her she seems to pull out this voice from somewhere down deep. Talent. Just pure raw talent!!! I could listen to Joy all day and night. Awesome talent! Awesome delivery! Awesome! Just marvel at the moving performances on VENUS! Wow! Joy Williams!

I was so distraught when Civil Wars broke up. The two of them were so good. So good together, so much chemistry. Now over :-( I have both John Paul White's subsequent cd (Beulah) and Venus. I like the songs of Venus better, as much as I worship White's guitar playing.

This is gorgeous but I'd love for her to sing with a little more diction in the first verse...and I love jOy's work; but where is this not going as opposed to where is it leading?... I hear events to come musically and I wonder if she wants to take on some more adventurous musics.... just an amazing talent and so emotive.

It's kind of over dramatic innit? I might expect to here this in a hard core fighting anime or maybe a fast and furious movie. Not to say it's bad, but it's definitely not great
