Months ago I was finding my way back to Christianity when I saw Shayne's testimony. Growing up in an Italian Roman Catholic family, it's always been around but I definitely strayed away for a while. When I saw Shayne's interviews I felt like I connected with him, being heavily tattooed and into a lot of the same things. It made it a lot easier to make the decision to come back and continue to let the lord lead me in the right direction. Thanks brother. 🙏🏼🙌🏼🤲🏼

Not me quietly weeping at the idea of "We need to accept everything as from the hand of the Lord...including ourselves." Not celebrating those sinful or broken parts, but in the same way as I endeavor to accept life's events, I need to accept my self, what I am now by grace, as from the Lord. Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me. Thank you guys for this conversation. 🙏

So, tbh, I've seen about 10 Matt Fradd podcasts so far, but none by choice. They've all been instances where I'd fallen asleep watching a KZbin video and woken up 2 hours deep into one of Matt's podcasts. That's also what happened this time, except i had been half-consciosly listening to the podcast in my sleep and incorporating it into my dream. I fully woke up with only 10 or so minutes remaining in the podcast, and i was sooo invested in what Mother Natalia was saying, that i scrolled back the full 3 hours and watched it from the beginning. I find it absolutely fascinating how 3 totally different personality types can create such beautiful harmony and balance of energy. I was particularly impressed with the moment Matt felt compelled to admit he felt he'd embarrassed himself with a comment he'd made to Mother Natalia, and the way she seamlessly and sincerely affirmed his authenticity in mentioning it. Such a beautiful conversation, i will watch it a second time, and share it with friends. Praise God.

This is one of the realist conversations I've heard on this awesome podcast. No goal, no topic in mind. Starting out talking video games and fun stuff and it just gets deeper and deeper. God bless all of you. Thank you Matt for not editing that part out (what you said wasnt that bad imo, dont worry). I've had a serious issue with running my mouth since I was a kid. When I was a kid, it was funny, and I thought it gained me social points. As an adult working in a professional environment, its difficult. I catch myself saying something stupid all the time. Honestly people probably dont even think about it, but it eats at me. What Mother Natalia said really helped me. I need to think about that for like 48 hours

@1:46 There's a Catholic skateboard company called motherboards out of Colorado. They sponsor a Catholic monk, and post videos of him absolutely shredding skateparks while in his habit. It's pretty great. Edit: Shayne mentions the company towards the end of the video. Good stuff!

The last part of this interview discussing sin is so healing. "...but if the point is simply not sinning, then what you're saying is ... I don't even want to need God. I don't want to need a savior. I want to be able to just get everything right..." I needed to hear that. I get so caught up in the thought of how wretched I am that I forget that the point is not about my perfection (or lack thereof...), but about my relationship with the One who made me and loves me so intimately. Thank you, Sister Natalia, Shayne, Matt, and Josiah for this interview. God bless you all!

I love the part of the conversation about St. Thérèse. What Shayne was saying about her gentleness in spite of her struggles with herself, has been my experience. I never realized how deep my connection to her was until this year, as I've worked on growing my relationship with her. The more I learn about her, the cooler I think she is and the more I love her example of holiness. It's awesome to hear how other people relate to her, and the ways that she's impacted their lives.

You should ask Mother Natalia what she thinks about the game INDIKA. (About an orthodox nun who confronts the devil, belief, and free will). It’s a super interesting game and has mechanics that involve praying to traverse through the world. It does raise very difficult questions about suffering, hell, and free will. I’d be curious for an eastern Catholic nun to react to it in some way.

I dig this convo. I must say, that while we should not make striving to overcome our silly quirks and insecurities our central goal (Jesus loves us more for these things), overcoming pron is not something you should surrender to Jesus in the sense that you may never overcome that. That is different. You should confidently trust that you will overcome such a thing, making it a goal to surrender yourself fully to the Blood of Jesus and enter into the Crucifixion in such a way that you are confident you will be delivered and overcome. Part of this is accepting that the desire to have a spouse is a good thing, but giving to our fleshes whom is bad. We must hate that. We must realize that God hates pron and we should not settle for never overcoming that, lest we go to hell. Similar to St. Mark Ji Tianxiang - he had faith he would be delivered and was.

About asking God for help and surrendering.. that's the whole reason our faith is counted as righteousness and not our works. Because when we're obsessing over making ourselves better more than we're trusting God with our flaws, we make those issues our God. We make the self our God, as if we think we can strive enough for perfection on our own. So it's our total surrender that is necessary to keep God in His rightful place in our hearts instead of making an idol of our flaws or problems and the things we'd like to change in order to reach our ideal self.

Honestly, as far as I can remember, and I've watched a good bit of Pints with Aquinas episodes over the years, this conversation above any others has made me want to seriously consider Catholicism. Like to the point where in my mind I'm thinking "Okay, pray and maybe give it a week and then go about doing that." I have a question though of something that Mother Natalia said towards the end about bringing your sin struggles of the mind to God in the moment instead of just storing them up to the confessional. I think I may have been missing her point, it seemed to beautiful, but how does that "State of Grace" transaction work? So for example, let's say I'm catching myself in a sin and I invite Jesus into it to forgive me and help me fight it in order to pursue a closer union with Him, am I still not in a "State of Grace" until bringing it to confession? And if that is the case, am I still in relationship to the Lord Jesus? Do I trust that God is not limited to his means so he still will forgive me in that moment and that then is confirmed in the confession and absolution and when I partake of the Eucharist? But it still might be true in that moment? I think really I'm just misunderstanding how salvation in the Church works in those moments. As a protestant who currently believes in "Sola Fide" and "Sola Gratia" I would say I am forgiven and in God's grace even in those moments of sin that might move me out of a "State of Grace" in a Catholic understanding. I know it's a lot and I'm sorry, but I might just need a clearer understanding of how the sacraments work in regards to what we Protestants call "being saved." It's probably a shift on paradigm.
