I liked the metallic base with black + nuln oil wash and drybrush metallic again trick - is that usual method for black armor in general?

No, In general it's not. The point of me painting black templars was cause black armor sucks. Dull and plain and I never saw any tutorial that had a good version. So I decided to focus on a black-ish color instead and this is what I got. So I used this method to make black armor interesting.

Great video here. I want to ask if we do good metal basecoat and proper washing like you did, do we get rid of endless pain of highlighting?

Mostly, you can still go the extra mile in some cases but this is a basic fast track. Check out my most recent Stormcast eternals vids from the dominion box set. While I use different paints, the technique is the same and the armor is done the same.

I love this video the music and your presentation is very relaxing. Plus this how I am going to paint my Black Templar army , this is the only guid I have seen which used a base paint of silver and it looks brilliant.

Ty, you the main reason I chose to paint Black Templar is because I always hated the black armor. It was to simple and dull, so I tried to make one that was interesting.

Nice, I really enjoyed this! This chaplain and the Judiciar were the only models I have from the box set. They look amazing. ( I love all the models but I wanted easy kit bashing.) For the sons of Dorn and the endless crusade!

Awesome work, love how it looks !!! 2 questions: The metallic grey before the black + nuln oil is for a more metallic look to the armour? Nuln Oil or Agrax, how do you know in what parts will looks better? Thanks a lot!!

Well thanks for the question! 1. While this paint does give it a metallic look, it is not to make it look metallic, it is to make a black armor look more interesting. I hate black armor, it looks dull, even some of the best painters when they paint it they have to highlight alot or use different tones of black. Overall I find it dull and not interesting. So a basecoat and a thick wash over will naturally highlight, edge and show more detail easily and make it have more... flavor to the armor. 2. I don't fully understand your question the way you worded it, but if you mean which of these paints to use mixed with the black paint is better, well agrax is brown, nuln is straight black and I use it as a thicker liquid medium for the black paint to flow easily and equally onto the armor. Hope that helps!

@@joyfulpainting700 Totally agree about black paint, mini needs a lot of details to look great (gradients, dark blue highlights) or in this case, to mix black and nuln oil over metallic is a great idea!! Sorry, I made the question bad. I meant, in what parts of the miniature you decide to use nuln oil or agrax for a better results. Thanks for the answer!!! Im watching all the black templars videos and are amazing. Will you make something similar with the new necrons?

@@MarioVicoDrums Okay so I don't choose them for different results, I choose them so they look different. Agrax is good for the paper, bones and such. Nuln is best for the armor and metal. What I am painting dictates what wash it gets. As far as the necrons go I talk about it in my recent video about the primaris captain at the end. But so far I haven't fully decided yet how exactly I want to paint it even though it is going to be based off the box art. Still working it out.

Would leadbelcher primer work to kind of skip a step?

If it can get the same metallic shine then yea it would a good way to skip a step. The only reason I don't is because I wouldn't bother getting a specialized primer for just a few model kits but if your whole army will be like that then yea it's a good play. One thing to note, is that I did notice that there was some color change to the paints over time, my leadbelcha is a bit lighter than the current leadbelcha, I use Iron Hands Steel now for this step. Hope that helps.
