That's what I do (and a third for metallics). Take a beginner pottery class, attempt to make coffee mugs. Neglect the fact that they'll shrink some when cooking them. End up with perfectly sized mini-painting water cups with enough heft to them to stay sturdy.

Hey Duncan, a million people have probably asked this already, but since you've featured a wet palette in this video, I think it would be helpful for people if you were to make a tutorial explaining their advantages, and how one could make one at home, or what types to look out for when shopping. But great video as usual! It's really relaxing to listen to your processes.
@poltergeist55484 жыл бұрын
I'll chime in, while you wait for Duncan ;) Regarding the reasoning behind a wet palette and how to make one of your own, check out Uncle Atom's vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2fQm6CnjLmDnK8 I've been using his home recipe for a while. Recently I've switched to the Redgrass Everlasting wet palette - it's a purpose made palette with paper sheets. It saved me a lot of trouble especially when looking for proper baking paper. In Poland you can't find a single one with info on the box regarding the paper being waxed or not (it shouldn't be waxed.) I've got a stockpile of waxed baking paper for a lifetime from buying different brands looking for non-waxed version :D

@SuperDuperHappyTime4 жыл бұрын
Matt Cryptonic Depends on the tool you use or where you do it, but there would be a bit of a gap. Ex. Clippers tend to fold the plastic a little, so a saw might be better. Push fit means that the pieces come off the sprue with little pegs and holes that you literally push the models into place with as opposed to gluing. Advantage is not having to use glue. Disadvantage is there can sometimes be gaps between pieces after everything goes together. Oh, and sometimes the model has a weird way it goes together and something like a pauldron is actually in two pieces instead of one easy to clip piece

Man, I don't even play Blood Angels and I find myself glued to the screen trying to pick up every little trick here (my angels are of a more Calibanite flavour). The going from light to dark way of layering up a power sword is quite a clever way of going around it. Although I remember being advised to use stuff like Lahmium Medium when thinning a paint that much while here you're getting a great effect just using water. Has me wonder if that's because of the wet palette or something. Does it allow you to thin paints more than you can do with a more traditional palette?
@toughluckfellow63263 жыл бұрын
Going to be honest... this guy is an awesome painter. You can tell he has been doing it for a long time and really knows his stuff. The problem is the sheer number of paints and steps. I do know of course that nobody will make you buy all this stuff.. but for someone like myself I don't have these paints.. and unless someone told me differently I wouldn't know where to start or stop when it comes to actually painting it. It would be helpful to have you stop and be like, ok! This ones done its tabletop ready and this is a great model for normal gameplay now you can set the model down and move to the next. The steps just keep going and going.. endlessly.. its very daunting and intimidating. What I see when I look at the massive list of paints in the description is cost.

I’ve painted a whole start collecting vanguard marines with a blue primer spray can from Walmart and it all worked out
@christopherperriraz46084 жыл бұрын
I would suggest experimenting with your normal spray before using it as primer. You really want a thin even coat as your primer and I've found most "normal" sprays come out fairly thick. Some normal sprays will allow you to achieve this, but not all. Also be wary of matte vs gloss sprays, as the gloss generally do not hold acrylic paints as much as you want.
@mattcryptonic8704 жыл бұрын
Lol. I always use cheap spray for priming. Or I have Mephiston Red paint too, mainly cuz I paint word bearers. Yah. I know. Why don't I use word bearers red? Uniqueness. Everyone who paints word bearers does the same thing, over and over. Besides, if I'm going to paint a whole army, it's going to be unique to everyone else who is also doing word bearers. That and Chaos looks awesome in a bright red vs a dark one. It's just that much more in your face.
