Great that you’ve done this research. My sewing room has carpet, not a hard floor, and you don’t cover carpeted floors. Any chance of a follow up on ideas to stop sliding on carpet? I use the shelf liner mesh, which helps considerably, but does not stop slippage completely.

Yes - I did a follow-up. It's under "Shorts" on my KZbin Channel. Here's the link: kzbin.infoLKXHGbg2Khc In addition the Martelli company says that you need to clean the lint off the pad with either tape or a mild cleanser on occasion for it to continue to be "no slip". Hope that helps!

I did not have good luck with the shelf liner, but the martelli pad worked the best for me. I won the Martelli foot pedal pad directly from Martelli at a quilt show. I was so excited. It was a larger pad and I tried it for a while but did not find it held the foot pedal well at all. I;m surprised you had such a favorable impression. I would have been upset if I had purchased it, but since I won it, there was no investment, other than that I really thought I won a great prize. Thank you for your video!

Hey I’m a bit late to this party but I have seen a suggestion to put hot glue to cutting rulers to prevent them from sliding. Perhaps this application may work to foot pedals as well? I would put the glue to the shelf liner and put it glue side down onto the floor. Cover liberally so it is a full cover of glue so as to prevent dust from getting beneath it. I think this seems to be the problem-if dust could get beneath the silicone placemat I believe it would scoot around the floor as well.

They do recommend occasional light maintenance. I just recently reached out to them and this was their reply in regard to cleaning: "You can clean and refresh the material by using clear packing tape (this will also remove footprint marks!). Just be sure to work from the center out, like you would with a lint brush. Press the tape onto the pad then pull from the center towards the edges. If you work from the edge inward, you can risk pulling up the material from the edges. (a little rubber cement can cure that- but why make more work for yourself 😊)" Hope that helps!

Nice research. I've had this problem for 20 years! I thought I was the only one who experiences this. Recently, I found a solution that works perfectly with my foot pedal and that is: turn the pedal around so the hings faces me. I lift my foot up onto it and then press down with my toes to run it. It works perfectly and stays put. For all these years I've had it going the other way and it moves all over.

I think I've tried everything as I have laminate floors. Nothing worked 100% till one day a light bulb went off in my brain. I got those command Velcro strips for picture hanging. First I put my pedal on the floor getting it in the position I wanted it, drew around it with a chalk pencil. The chalk pencil will wipe up cleanly. I attached one strip on the back of my pedal and firmly pressed the second strip down on it attaching them together. I removed the paper from the back of the strip then placed the pedal in my chalk outline, pressing the pedal down firmly to attach it to the floor. Of course, be sure your machine is turned off while you do this. Now your pedal won't move and if you want to change it you simply pull the release tape and up comes the Velcro and it doesn't leave anything stuck on your floor. Dollar Tree sells these in a knock off brand for only $1.25. This is just how I solved my runaway pedal problem on laminate flooring.

So I have a kitchen cabinets in my sewing room which means my cabinets are too high for a regular chair - so I use a bar stool - it gives me more storage with the chores but using a bar stool probably wasn't the best idea! However, I have a little step stool on the floor that my foot pedal is on so I can reach it. I ended up velcro-ing my foot pedal to the little stool. This works for my situation. It was really a problem before I did that because my foot pedal was always falling off onto the floor! Necessity is the mother of invention! However I would not recommend velcro going a foot pedal to a floor! 🤣🤣🤣

I think it would work to stabilize it. I know there are those who put a type of quilt/mat under their machine to keep it from moving around on the table, but I think a silicon mat would make it even more stable. Martelli has a sewing machine pad that goes under the machine that REALLY keeps it stable, but it's rigid and would only work for travel if you're able to transport it as is since you can't fold it or roll it up.

The Martelli doesn’t work well for carpets. It worked for a little while only. I bought mine last year. Thanks

From what I understand, the pad is made of a non-slip material that needs to be kept free of any accumulation of dirt, thread and etc. It should be wiped down with a mild cleanser to remain effective.

From what I understand you should clean it periodically - either use tape to remove lint or a mild cleansing solution and it should restore the pad. Hope that helps.

Thank you for those ideas. I tried using Command Velcro strips. I put the smooth part on the floor and the pokey side of the foot. It does well but it would do better if I could mount several because the narrow strip of Velcro maybe gets a thread or something and comes apart. I did find when I went to a retreat that had carpet, when I put a strip on my Featherweight, it stuck to the carpet great. Did not need anything stuck on the carpet and had no damage. I think I will try the pioneer Woman mat since it should be easy to get and probably cheaper. If I don’t love it, I could always use it in the oven.

Yes - I did find that the Martelli square worked the best on flooring and carpet. It's slightly more expensive than the other products, but still very reasonable and mine has lasted over 6 years and is still working well.

I have an additional video: kzbin.infoLKXHGbg2Khc It's important that you keep the pad clean either by using tape to remove lint or washing it with a mild cleanser, but from what I understand the Martelli pad works the best for that.

@@joyfulandmerryquilting My thought also. My floor is a paper bag one and after 7 years, it's starting to wear out due to furniture moving (chairs) and simply walking on it. Sandpaper would ruin it in a flash.

Really bad experience with Martello foot pedal pad. Picks up an abundance of threads and lint. Also slides in tile floors. Very disappointing.
@joyfulandmerryquilting
@joyfulandmerryquilting Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry you had that experience - my experience has been excellent. I have not used it on a tile floor - only wood - but I have had mine for 6 years and have never had an issue with it picking up lint. I did check several sites where this pad is sold and it is the general concensus that if it does pick up lint you can remove it by placing the sticky side of tape on the pad or wash it off using a gentle cleanser. Hopefully that will help you. In addition, it has been my experience that Martelli Notions has EXCELLENT customer service and if you contact them about it, they may be able to help you as well.

@joyfulandmerryquilting
@joyfulandmerryquilting Жыл бұрын
Did you clean it periodically? The Martelli company suggests cleaning it regularly if it loses its grip: "You can clean and refresh the material by using clear packing tape (this will also remove footprint marks!). Just be sure to work from the center out, like you would with a lint brush. Press the tape onto the pad then pull from the center towards the edges. If you work from the edge inward, you can risk pulling up the material from the edges. (a little rubber cement can cure that- but why make more work for yourself 😊)"
