Louis, I gotta thank you a ton. I got this amp and wasn't too satisfied with the sound. Then, I put a metal zone in the fx loop using the same settings as the video where you put the pedal into your prs mt 15. Man, it sounds so badass! Thanks again!

Great video. Completely agree with your opinion. I have a Mesa Badlander 100 and a Soldano SLO 30 for studio and live band applications. My Joyo Z2 barely cracks 1 through a 2x12 cabinet for bedroom practice amp and it is LOUD. I would recommend a 10band eq pedal through the effects loop and a boost/od pedal through the front.

Fax on the boost stuff. It sounds to me like the Zombie has a boost circuit or something after 1:30 on it. It seems to get more and more gain and then it just sounds more and more boosted after a certain point. The tone knob is pretty good sounding as well.

I'm interested in it because it has more versatility, and the tone is just killer. It's heavy enough for me. I play instrumental metal-tinged fusion, for lack of a better term. I've just got to throw together a rig that won't break my back. I find my Marshall combo getting rougher to move around and I already help my drummer breakdown his set. This is the sort of tech that can just make life easier. I also feel the hybrid model is the way to go. When you think about it even a lot of full tube amps still over a lot of solid state and emulation stuff going on like Hughes and Kettner and Blackstar. So there are very few amps that are totally pure tube in operation. I'm sure you know that Chuck Schuldiner's favorite amp in the world was the Mashall Valvestate which was hybrid, solid state power section and tube preamp. Dimebag didn't use tubes at all. Started using solid state Randalls in 1984 when he saw George Lynch on the Tooth and Nail tour rocking a wall of Randalls. But what was George really using? An RG 75 combo behind the stage. The wall of Randalls? They were all fake cardboard cutouts. And that was 1984! Solid state and hybrid technology have come very far since then and it's simply silly for anyone to play the "purist" game and not use them. I love a great tube amp, and they will always be here, but when I can get my sound for less money and in a lighter, easier to transport package, that's what I'm gonna go for.

I own the Zombie 1 and I modded it to accept a Foot Switch. My Zombie 2 has something weird going on with it. I'm getting a clean channel mix into the over drive channel, it's both mixing at once, weirdest thing I've ever heard. So I'm using my Zombie 1 with the mod and foot switch from the Zombie 2.

Update on Joyo Zombie experiment : I ran it into the return of my 60 watt Peavey. I hooked up my computer speakers to the the headphone jack and with the volume on the Zombie all the way down the sound still comes out uninterrupted from the send jack still. So I had that thing rippin' through a tube power section with my 10 band eq in between the Zombie and Peavey. I needed a little more tight gain so I had my 808 and TC pre clones( both at the same time in that order ) before the Zombie of course. So, IT WORKS!!! IT WORKS!!! My Peavey is a Triumph so this was pretty much a budget setup that Im content with. But I changed out that JJ tube in the Zombie for a NOS Hitachi tube I got off Ebay for 18 bucks. The JJ is dark and muddy in comparison.

For one, you didn’t mention the Bluetooth so you can jam to drum tracks etc.! And I actually have hugged with the zoMBie! Granted it was just a shitty jam night at a bar down the street from where I live but everyone that was there said it sounded awesome! I was running it on the clean channel only, with a Suhr Riot, into a Mosky analog delay, into a Mooer Shimverb (my cheap on the go jam night rig with a 1x8 cab I made myself with a celestion super 8. The bartender said it was the best I have ever sounded! I also sing karaoke there every Saturday (pre Covid shutdown of course) and I was kind of shocked as I am a good guitar player but I am a world class singer! I have sang at Carnegie Hall! Regardless I think the amp is so great that I also bought the Joyo Bantamp JaCkMan (even though I already have 2 actual Marshall JCMs).

I just bought one of these monsters yesterday and am here to share a bit of a hack and review. This is my signal path: Guitar-tuner-mini wah-Overdrive-(input of amp)-send out to EQ pedal-Noise Suppressor-reverb-delay-(dly out) to Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 input-SMPS700 out to 2x12 cab. With this rig setup I have a tube preamp running through two sources of post EQ and have 700 solid state watts of power. I cut the base with the EQ pedal and slightly boost the mids, then I can sculpt further using the PowerStage eq. This thing rips with this configuration.

I daily / gig this amp “ mine is heavily modded “ but it’s more then loud enough for practice and gigging .. you can mod it to have a foot switch if you don’t want to pay for the XL .. I’m also running 2 tubes in it for more boost I built a hot mod type splitter for mine ... I swear by these amps all day long !!!

Gornflyin you can google the hot mods schematic and build one off of that .. and there was a lot more gain ... I have now also updated my set up and running mostly cabless for gigs .. I’m running the head into a Joyo cab box and going right to front of house and going right to the wedges and my in ears .. it’s an amazing set up .. I couldn’t be more happier with my tone and sounds I get out of my head and Joyo proudly

To get the most out of these little guys... Use two 212 cabs an a any switch... But to play a gig... Just use a good 212... It's loud enough use live to hang with most drummer... If you need it louder Mic it an run it thru your p.a. hope this helps..

To me, and I LOVE my Thr10x, that one is 5150 based and it does it perfectly! With the Zombie, you can definitely hear the lower end tone which is the typical Mesa Rectifier sound. Personally I love both, the THR10x and Zombie, that's why I have an EVH5153, Peavey 6505 plus a Dual and Triple Rectifier! If you favor the 5150 brown sound, then you're perfect where you are with your Yamaha. If you ever want a Mesa tone without spending $850 for a used Recto, get the Zombie! It's on point with the Mesa. :) Hope that helps, brother!

Tube wattage is not the same output as solid state wattage. 20W tube can drive a 4x12 cab without breaking a sweat. 20W solid state power will break a sweat. Sweaty mess.

What's going to affect the tone will be the speakers you use. Mesa amps and Mesa clones always sound better/ more brutal out of V30s and lately, the new DV77 speakers. I don't know what speakers your cabinet has but speakers makes all the difference.

Your two options would be a cabinet or something like the Two Notes Captor which is $250 but you can buy a used cabinet for $250 too. So it depends on what you would prefer. Unfortunately, you won't be able to use your pc speakers.

Never get a 1x12 cabinet. At minimum, get a 212 so your speaker doesn't potentially blow. Just watch videos featuring different speakers found in your favorite cabinets, then settle on the ones that sound right to you. Some guys hate V30s while others love them, it's like car rims; get the ones you personally like the most.

My backup amps are my two 50w EVH heads that go into a dual rack. The 20 watt Zombie just isn't loud enough for me. Not only that but I have to consider the guitarists who would see me with a zombie and make fun. You can use a Zombie but I'm not allowed to use one, even if I wanted to. :)

Man! At the time, the 808 Keeley Mod was my favorite but then Truck Driver Shawn sent me the 805 and was floored! Get the 805 over the 808/ Keeley!! It's THE best overdrive, without question.

@@louistorres HOLY SHIT.... it is insane! it's like owning a dual rectifier i can fit in my back pocket, through my Sonic 4x12 (Celestion G12M 70s) it is SOOOO LOUD... i'm pretty sure mic'ed up, it could handle playing a live gig.... no joke. I was utterly blown away, also, changing out the 12ax7 in the pre-amp makes a difference! the stock tube is cheap and weak sounding, i put a TAD 12AX7 that was in my parts bucket and.... DAMN.
