So beautiful. Thank you Stephanie. Your baking is superb. I baked 2 of your recipes and it turned out so so good. I started to learn to bake in July and it is so encouraging that your recipes and methods are so clear and simple. You have inspired me so much and I am baking to give to the poor.

Great recipe! I used cake strips around my cake pan so it bakes evenly. After baking for 45 minutes the middle was not baked enough, so I lowered the oven to about 300-325, put aluminum foil over the top of the cake-checking it every 5 minutes. My cake came out perfectly

I see you’re updating a lot of recipes from a while ago. I love it. I made this cake every year for my mom’s work. One of her boss’ loved it and it just became a thing I did (for boss’ day). She is now retired and every time I make it we talk about all the years this cake has seen. It’s our summer tradition now. Thank you.

Made this today. I have always avoided recipes that call for whisking the egg whites and folding them in, but this looked SO good I gave it a try today. This is the 4th or 5th of your recipes I have tried, and no disappointments yet! I made the ham and egg pie for breakfast. YUM!!! Cake is wonderful! Thanks Stephanie!

So when I saw that you just uploaded a video making it again, I was very happy and excited to see it. Especially now that you would cut and let us see the inside of the finished product. Love it. I made this cake about 6 years ago for a friend but didn’t get to taste it. I recently made it again for myself and it’s delicious. I will be making it again. I made homemade whipped cream (don’t like store bought) and that was a great addition. This cake is too easy to be this good.

I've been thinking for a couple years now how to update this cake. My mom used to make it all the time when I was a kid. My idea is a coconut cake. Make a single layer coconut cake. Then, do the topping which would be like making Cherries Jubilee, with pineapple. But before I would put a piece of the cake on the plate I would put on some spiced Creme Anglaise. That's my idea. I let you know how it turns out. I think it would be a good dessert after a very spicy dinner such as real Texas chili, or BBQ, or Indian or Thai dinner. Especially with the coconut tie-in.

My grandmother and my mother (and in turn, myself) would sprinkle about 1/4 cup of finely ground pecans on top of the brown sugar mixture before placing the pineapple. It gives a deep, rich flavor - like the candied walnuts at Xmas time.

Hello, first of all thanks for sharing your knowledge with us, I have made a lot of your recipes and they all perfect. Now I've made this turnover 3 times now and all 3 times it breaks from the middle. Like as it cools it starts to split from the middle. can you tell me what you think I could be doing wrong, I use same exact measurements and let it cool down and everything as you say. Now the only thing I don't use is the cream of tartar.
@joyofbaking Жыл бұрын
You do get cracks around the slices of pineapple. When the cake is warm it is fragile, but will set up as it cools.

My grandmother told me about back in the 30's and 40's, there was one specific time of year when they could get shipments of fresh pineapples, you ordered them by the case, and then you'd can them at home (and eat them fresh as well)
