To add to Michael James' comment: I'm 52, and I only started riding in 2017. In late 2019, after a bunch of stupid crashes, I had trail trauma so bad that I pushed down rocky parts. I then got a fat bike, and started learning. The hinge, the compression, row/anti-row, those have all been transformational. I now have a bunch of KOMs, and am 14th overall on that one trail that I wouldn't ride 1.5yrs ago. I attribute a lot of this progression to you two. Thanks!

We rode some gravel roads in mountains with some loose sharp rocks, and I used your technique to great success. Yet gurus yelled at me, whether I want to cut my tires on the sharp edges. Their recommended technique was to stop slowly, by gently pulling levers. Well, of course, they have more experience riding there, but still, I wonder, how much more possible it is to have flats this way.

Hey guys love the videos I'm learning a lot. This really helps expand on Lee's book and makes my riding more full of intent and purpose and create more joy. I just wanted to say that when you are going through the moments we need to pay more attention. Such as watching you actually perform the mechanics of getting heavy and light as you break. I find it easier to see the details when you are still in color. It makes it easier to distinguish the timing on the beginning of your movements and the ending of them. First time trying to tell the difference between the edge of your pants in the shadow behind you to see when you initiated a movement or fully ended in what was the full range of motion. Thank you very much. I safely descended a mountain pass for the first time in the dark with a way overloaded bike. Where someone died the previous year, due to your techniques.

Hey Guys!! Another light hearted but very informative video, top marks again!! The banter between Lee and yourself is priceless. At the end of every video you always ask is to send in suggestions for ideas for you guys to film so here is mine. Last weekend I rode in the Scottish Borders where every trail has been hand carved down rock laiden trails and around pine trees and over sniper roots and through drainage ditches and along barbed wire fence lines and across wet loamy slopes into hand dug berms which always have standing stagnant water in. Please can you make a video that doesn’t have a bike park or a pump track in, no kickers, hips or lips allowed. Find some natural Gnar in a forest on a hill side somewhere and give us(me) so tips on how to find flow when none exists because the rocks are too sharp or the angle of the trail is more than 50 degrees or the trees are to close for me to get my 780mm bars through without slowing to a crawl. Please help me to improve my fear of not dying on every descent because of all of the above mentioned so I can hoon to my full potential and please the goddess of hoon on my weekend pilgrimage to her church( the trails In the forest). Amen brother. HTVFO 🤙🏻

We were joking that braking is like the veggies of MTB. It’s the thing that matters the most but people skip it. Could do a year of shows on this. Was riding trail yesterday and was musing on the lightness as a way to teach the heavy. Or that heavy as a way to teach the light. One can never cost without the other.
@jonathaniszorro3 жыл бұрын
I tried that Metal Sign 🤘grip out after watching this and immediately I could feel more control over the handlebars, it got my elbows out and engaged my back like never before, and got my fingers farther out on the brake lever for more control. That and explanation of the tendons is a great tip that I think should be repeated in future videos.
@JoyOfBike3 жыл бұрын
The metal sign is being funny but it does make the point of what fingers do what and the pinky doesn't need to do anything. Stills of good riders in the air you'll see how casual the grip can be.

very nice video like all of them, if i can add something, the best way of braking (its from racing motorbikes) its better to start braking with the rear just before the front brake, so the weight wont go to the front at the beginning of the braking and can have your weight more center. Also start braking very softly and them, once the braking has started you can brake mush harder as the forces are already happening, so the transition is more soft. Using this in conjunction with what you explain its what i found the best
