It is good to see that Stockfish NNUE plays the Lion Defense in the tournament. In theory, the sharpest reply to the Lion Defense is that of the f4 which restricts the black to play the aggressive counterpart which is the so-called "Black Lion Variation". I play the Lion defense quite often against the e4 and d4 pawn. In the game, white plays the sharp line Qd4 which is the followup maneuver of f4 pawn. After the cheeky move e5 by white @ 4:14, I prefer to play Bc5 first to eliminate the Be3 and after something the queen moves at d3 or d2, I first play Ne4 outpost to provoke Nc3 for knight exchange or relocate somewhere at e2 (restriction of Bf1), b1 or d1 (restriction to castling at queenside), a4 (outcast knight). If that Knight at c3 will not do something, first by playing Bxe3 and after Qxe3, I will exchange with knights leaving a problematic double pawn structure of white queenside and refraining from castling any side of the board. If white plays Nxe4 for instance, after xe4 and Nf8, white may find itself difficulty in casting at the queenside because of the open d-file, and the white king might remain at the center of the board vulnerable to attack. The Ng4 and immediate Qb6 played by Stockfish is quite positional but in the cost of white pawns expansion at the center. I play Lion Defense in the fashion that if white plays f4 and Qd4, I will activate the open d-file or double pawn structure at queenside to refrain from castling. If white plays the mainline Nf3, I will activate the Black Lion variation to create damage both on the side of the board. This is how I play the Lion Defense. =)

Why wasn't exd5 played by white at 4:13? It looks to me like white wins a pawn and opens up the center while being ahead in development. Is it because black plays c5 and has nice development from there and will win back the pawn later or something? Or maybe Bc5 followed by castling from black gives good compensation for the pawn?

if leela wins at Chess.com/cccc it's only because of the hardware, that is scamely in favor of the gpu sides. type in !gpu and !cpu in the chat to know more, then check out available TDP, transistor count, nm process, Tflops to ponder your evaluation. Remember also that standard x64 cpu and protected memory have lots of protections logic , things that do not occur in gpus. Even at Tcec, the hardware favors the NNs. We see that cpu leela is weaker than stockfish. Now with the low level vulkan API, maybe one could try to implement stockfish on the gpus to really put the nail on the coffin for the leela fanboys.
