Top Chess Engine Championship, formerly known as Thoresen Chess Engines Competition (TCEC or nTCEC), is a computer chess tournament that has been run since 2010. It was organized, directed, and hosted by Martin Thoresen until the end of Season 6; from Season 7 onward it has been organized by Chessdom. It is often regarded as the Unofficial World Computer Chess Championship because of its strong participant line-up and long time-control matches on high-end hardware, giving rise to very high-class chess.
The TCEC competition is divided into seasons, where each season happens over a course of a few months, with matches played round-the-clock and broadcast live over the internet. Each season is divided into several qualifying stages and one "superfinal", where the top two chess engines play 100 games to win the title of "TCEC Grand Champion". In the superfinal, each engine plays 50 openings, once as each side. Beginning in Season 11 in 2018, a division system was introduced; the top 2 engines in each division are promoted, and the bottom 2 are relegated. Currently, there are 5 divisions (a Premier division, and divisions 1-4); newcomers generally start in division 4.

Was curious regarding the performance rating thing so after some googling it seems that: _Performance rating is the average of your opponent's ratings with an adjustment based on the score of the game. For each win, you add your opponent's rating + 400, a draw is just your opponent's rating, and a loss is your opponent's rating - 400_ Which plugging in the numbers comes out as LCZero 3543 3543 DD Stoofvlees 3504 3504 DD AllieStein 3536 3936 DW ScorpioNN 3451 3451 3451 DDD Ethereal 3470 3870 DW Fire 3457 3857 DW Komodo 3505 3905 DW (3543+3543+3504+3504+3536+3936+3451+3451+3451+3470+3870+3457+3857+3505+3905) / 15 = 3598.87 performance rating Not sure though, interesting nonetheless!

Add 700 rating points to that and you get their "scaled human ELO" - 4200 ELO stockfish

No computer program today can reach 4200 points.The Alpha Zero beat Stockfish 8 28 wins 72 draws 64% result score. The Gauss bell curve stats book says 64% score is 101,81 elo points(average for humans 1650 elo points standard deviation 256-282,8) Stockfish 8 was rated 3397 so Alpha Zero is about 3500.To get 4000 points score you have to beat Alpha Zero 98-2 No program can score 98% score against Alpha Zero. To get 4200 elo points you have to beat Alpha Zero 99,68% out of 100.It will not happen

Basically Performance rating is the average of your opponent's ratings with an adjustment based on the score of the game. For each win, you add your opponent's rating + 400, a draw is just your opponent's rating, and a loss is your opponent's rating - 400. There is an exception for a Perfect Score, then you add your opponent's rating + 800 Perfect Score definition: The definition of a perfect chess player is someone who plays as if they had access to the complete tablebase of chess (a dataset so large some people think it could not be created within our universe) but a Perfect Score is almost impossible for a human an exceedingly unlikely even for a very strong engine

At first glance the game in the final position might look far from over but Etherial gave up in view of lines such as e.g. 71…Ke6 72.a3 a4 73.bxa4 c5 74.Ne5 Bc7 75.Nc4 g4 76.Nd2 Kf6 77.Nb1 c4 78.Nc3 f3 79.Nd1 Kg5 80.Ne3 c3 71.Nc2 f2 82.Ne3 g3 83.Kf3 c2 when in view of the overworked White knight the Black c-pawn or f-pawn would have promoted and given Black an extra queen.

Good explanation by Jozarov. Good game for stockfish. Ethereal could be said not to find the way to play the chess. This mean that stockfish was controlling the move of Ethereal. I think this is of performance of 4000 elo rating chess engine skills level.

Sounds strange when humans say “ethereal’s mistake”. IMHO analysing individual engine moves is not very productive as we simply can’t comprehend the entirety of the “thinking” even weaker engines are doing
