I like how Matt also didn't give women ( and men) a free pass about modesty. There are some people who act and dress immodestly for self adulation and to stir arousal. He is very correct about that. There are people who profit off their immorality to the detriment of others. They should also be charitably called out. At the same time TOB is right, we should rmeian chaste.

I loved Cristopher during the modesty section. So many people assume women are intentionally dressing for seduction when half of the time we’re just dressing comfortably.

Thank you, guys, great lectures! 55:58 I think a nuance could be added here. It's beautiful when we speak about the hope of being truly seen and appreciated instead of just shallow objectification. But I think you a bit skipped the problem that for many people it's not comforting anymore, because this seems completely unachievable, dream-like. I can see how a person living many years feeling completely unattractive may want to even be objectified, with full consciousness, just to feel being worthy of interest. Surely, it would be great to be noticed as a full person, but this hope may be already lost. Being desirable at least on a surface level, while wrong on a deeper level, feels better than being completely ignored. By this I mean that knowing that there is another option is not enough, when this option still seem completely out of reach.

I feel there's also a point to think about *our* own dignity as well. Especially as a woman. To think about our dignity as children of God and not allow ourselves to be used.

I submit that “Faire l’amour” does not mean to make love, but rather to DO love. You can only do love if the love already exists.

Thank you for all the work that went into the series! Question: if modesty/immodesty depends on intentionality, then why does Leviticus address unintentional sin at length?

I still can't figure out what's the difference between proper sexual attraction/desire and lust. Is it possible to experience sexual desire towards someone who's not your spouse without sinning? If yes, then when it does become lust? The whole "upholding the dignity of the person" thing sounds awesome, but it's not precise or practical enough. For example, is it ok for me to look at my boyfriend and think "wow, he's fine"? Is it a sin if i have a fleeting though about wanting to have sex with him or does it only become sin if i entertain this though to the point of getting aroused? Will it be a mortal sin or a venial sin? Etc. I'd highly appreciate if anyone shared some resources regarding this issue.

@@TheologyoftheBodyInstitute thank you. Can you please also recommend some videos that could help explain issues such as value and beauty of chastity and honoring God with your body, seriousness of sexual sin etc. to a new believer who is not particularly educated on these matters? Not really "how to practice chastity", but rather "why chastity is so important in the first place" is what I'm looking for here. (How to practice chastity is a very important question, but in order to be truly willing and motivated to practice chastity one must understand why it's important)

Sorry Matt, definitely with Chris on the point @ 1:15:43 If there's no intention to be immodest, how is there a sin by them? The sin is on the behalf of the viewer. Modesty is a cultural standard and expression, there's no divine standard set on clothing standards. Edit: To the dressing appropriately in Church, I'd call that having reverence vs modesty. When visiting the basilicas in Rome, they have people at the doors asking women to cover their shoulders. To show reverence, not out of modesty.

Last Sunday a girl with a barely-there-at-all skirt sat in the pew in front. Spent the whole service with my eyes closed or looking a the ceiling. Modesty is NOT a cultural standard. It is an absolute line. There is room to move on either side, but the line is there.

I think they both came to conclusion, that inmodesty requires intention, but the dress might be inappropriate regardless of intentions. I'd add that while being dressed inappropriately might not be a sin of inmodesty (because there is no intention), the sin might lie in the ignorance that led to this happening. The ignorance might be a result of negligence.

I don't really know where they get the idea that men are sexually selfish. It's not backed up by any kind of research. Most men don't get pleasure out of sex unless their wife is enjoying it too. This comes natural to most men. This is 2 guys in their 50s acting like they've just figured this out.

Yeah. I’m not crazy about Catholics falling into the “men are selfish pigs lol” cultural trope, alongside the “women are sexually enlightened pillars of virtue” trope.
