Sounds like a psychological phenomenon of believing in divine grace. As mothers, we don't rely on ourselves alone during pregnancies and child-rearing. Just like bakers don't keep looking at the oven to ensure quality bread. This personal construct and belief in divine grace are truly comforting for mothers. I heard about this wonderful coping mechanism as an Indian thinking, and in my Lectio Divina (western sources) readings at night, I discovered that Christians also truly believe that God is gracious.

I love the idea of the psychological investment of mothers. This is the reason I am really trying to save my marriage, despite my husband filing for annulment. This is also why the Penal Code of the Philippines favors mothers and women; our legal framework aims to preserve family units. It's not easy to raise quality kids indeed. Until now, I am legally married in the eyes of the state and the Catholic Church, though emotionally single (hence, I'm now a Hypatian - two children as gifts from God are more than enough). It's time for self-care, time for healing myself. My psychiatrist understands my decision to focus truly on my children and my relationship with God (with wisdom). At 43, anxiety about being away from my children and my legal husband keeps me grounded, meaning I rarely talk with men and avoid sales. I appreciate the virtue and character of the shyness of Muslim hijabis. A woman should always be vigilant to protect herself as a vulnerable human species.
