I feel the most important part of the whole process here is only having the rules that are relevant to your own game on the inside. One of the most annoying things about the old DM screens you get from starter sets and such is that it's covered in information you may not ever use. Which can slow the game down a bit because you're trying to find a specific rule in a sea of otherwise useless information. I really like this movement of a more DIY approach that the ttrpg community is going to. Not just in the crafting portion, but in the rules we play with as well. More agency to the players and the GM to make a game their own is never a bad idea.

I am so excited for this project! If you add any color, I would use yellow accents. It reflects the original Mork Borg and the text crawl of Star Wars!

For the boards, you could also use thin artists' canvases. I bought a pack of 5 from Hobby Lobby on sale for $5-6 and the screen is super sturdy

Next time you make one, paint your screen your base color, and maybe small details (like stars). When you mod podge, it will protect it... and you can always add more later. and to keep your punk diy look, just add some neon colors as highlights in places to get a cyber-punk look :) for the inside you could find some magnetic white erase sheets that you can cut to size and glue inside, this way the inside of the screen is modular and can be easily adapted for any info you need. Infact, the tables you want can be printed on stickers and placed on thin sheets of magnetic material as well.

DM screen is one of the first things I did when I restarted playing. Now I want to make a new one! My first one was made with scrap cardboard, made with using scrapbook paper and pictures from the internet. This time I think I want to do something similar to Professor DM (but with paper from Crooked Staff Terrain), and make a Street scene to add extra functionality.

I just built a screen earlier last week for Fallout using a pretty similar technique. I used medium weight chipboard. It 100% warped and didn't work as well as I would have wanted it. However it the warp was pretty controlled after gluing onto both sides. 100% agree with getting as heavy a weight as possible. ALSO. I sliced my finger. :D

Gonna have to try this technique for making a custom foldable board game board. Probably experiment with some clear page sleeves or plastic sheets so I can swap custom versions in and go wild with different layouts or graphic styles. I'll probably try the dm screen too so I can represent the style and ambiance of dungeon walls without adding clutter or extra set up. I really like how they did the walls in Darkworld for setting a scene but emulating that while keeping quick set up and modularity to the base components is the goal.

I wonder what if ya had done mod-podge mixed with black acrylic pain and then sprinkle some white to be stars, so you lay a foundation of stars, then you apply the star wars art over that. With the rules and stuff, maybe do some strips of then metal applied to the board, then use magnets to stick stuff. Just food fer thought. Ya done a good job, JP.

I've had some trouble with mod podge sticking to other things, like paper set on top of it long after it was dry. I would recommend using a spray sealer of some sort.

I’m not sure why I think it is lame when people shoehorn D&D 5e into everything, but love Mork Borg compatible content! Good luck with your session. Also look into Scum and Villainy, if you want to see a Blades in the Dark take on sci-fi.

This video made me really interested in doing this for myself, but I trust gaffers tape much more than masking tape in terms of durability, so I did a little test. I found that the gaffers tape holds quite well on chipboard actually. We might have used different chipboard or something, but for me, the gaffers tape held so well that forcefully ripping it off tore a layer of chipboard up with it. The other tape I tested was book repair tape, which feels similar to gaffers tape, but it actually sticks even stronger to the chipboard. I think I'm going to use that, but what was your experience with gaffers tape? Does it lose it's grip on the chipboard over time or anything like that? I just want to make something that will last years, hopefully. Either way, this is an awesome video, very inspiring, and I'm excited to make one for myself.
