A lot of my recognition comes from "intuition" or "I just know", but the orientation technique is the best way I can explain where that intuition actually comes from. Hey J Perm I am sub 40 and I use 4LLL and take around 5 sec for cross, 25-30 seconds for F2L, and the rest for OLL and PLL(It is my first month of cubing.) I have watched about every video I can find that says how you can improve F2L but still I can never. I am sorry that I have asked this question about 2 times before and you always answer so thank you but I don’t know what to do now. I really like cubing but I might end up quitting because I can never improve.
@creepcrafting566 жыл бұрын
What you need to do is to completely stop timing yourself, and just practice F2L, by just doing cross, and finding more efficient algs. LazerMonkey's every F2L case explained intuitively is a great place to go to. Other than that, example solves the only way to go. Apart from J Perm's Best Algorithms for ALL advanced F2L Cases pdf

What's funny is that I actually use the top color to recognize a good/bad edge faster. I initially used your method of recognition, but I found myself glancing left and right too often which was somewhat tiring. So now I just look at the top color of the edge & the front center color facing me. They must be the same or opposite, else I rotate! But thanks for your videos anyway...they're super helpful ^_^

This is immensely helpful, thank you! And it made me realize that this also applies to an edge that is in a slot with the corner on the top (i.e. if doing an R or L move to bring the edge up makes it a bad edge, then a rotation is needed). Brilliant stuff

Heres something I found that usually helps to avoid rotations: when you have a 3-move insert but your pair will go into the wrong slot (i.e. your 3 move insert is for the blue-orange pair but the slot in front of you is the blue-red slot), where istead of doing a rotation you can sinply do a wide D or wide D’ to move the slot, and not the pair. However, this may hinder you lookahead depending on how far in to f2l you already are.
@ratnakhan6 жыл бұрын
GCubes but that will require a regrip to do d move then another to execute. only one regrip with rotation

@AndyFischer Жыл бұрын
yeah any F move can turn a bad edge into a good edge. Doing a cube rotation with RUL moves is usually considered faster than doing F moves. But you can definitely use F moves if you want

Sir,to recognise the EO FASTER,YOU CAN LOOK AT THE FRONT CENTER AND TOP COLOUR OF THE EDGE PIECE ON THE TOP .IF IT IS MATCHING ANYWHERE ON TOP EDGE POSITIONS OR JUST THE OPPOSITE COLOUR YOU DON'T HAVE TO ROTATE AS IT IS ORIENTATION AND IT IS EVEN FASTER THAN LOOKING AT THE SIDE AS I THINK SO.

@somekid55326 жыл бұрын
An easier ish but a little less helpful way of doing this is: if the side color on the edge is opposite of the color of the face you are facing, you will have to rotate to insert or use one of the two rotationless inserts. This is useful for me because for f2l I just focus on pairing the pieces up and then inserting, which may or may not be a bad habit.
@asr2009 Жыл бұрын
with your way, technically we will have rotationless f2l(use wide f moves to insert in back)

You’re not supposed to start or stop the timer while touching the cube because there’s a chance that you can actually turn the cube before you start the timer, which is why that’s the rule in the WCA.

@contractkiller76346 жыл бұрын
Honestly if you start doing this, you might as well learn. ZZ has entirely pure benefits minus Eo+line being 1 move slower than cross max. Since youre already used to recognizing which edges are good and bad and can learn EO very easily. All it takes is practice for EO+Line. F2L will never have rotations and has less cases. And you can block build pairs and edges in. So F2l is more open, which could be more difficult, but also makes for really efficient f2l(ive done f2l in 17 moves and im not good at solving, my average is like 18, so somebody definitely could do it better, in like ~13/14 moves), then you are guaranteed to get yellow cross which has only 7 cases. Then normal PLL
@JPerm6 жыл бұрын
I disagree, because it's general consensus that zz is slower than cfop for 2 hands. you definitely don't average 18 for f2l unless you're excluding eoline. cfop cases are generally easier to execute due to fewer regrips, OLL is pretty much the same speed either way, so you need a huge number of LL tricks for ZZ to match CFOP.

Very, very interesting video, as most of the stuff you create. I think it could be useful for me and I'm ashamed I never thought of it myself, as I know the basics of ZZ and Petrus. Just two comments. As others have already commented I'd put it as top color of the edge is either front or back --> oriented, instead of side color is side color, for example, if the edge is in UB I cannot see the side color but I can always see the top color. Of course, if the edge is in one of the front slots then it's front color what I need to check against front / back centers. Anyway, if I need to extract the edge from back right I will have to check on side color, which is the one I will be seeing, to know whether it's comming on top oriented or misoriented. And, also, regarding misoriented edge -> cube rotation, there might be cases where a sledge hammer to orient it could be an option as well if it is either inserted in a front slot or in UF. Thanks for your great content!
@JPerm6 жыл бұрын
Glad you liked it! I personally prefer side color only because the side color can touch the side center as it moves, making recognition easier in many cases; less thinking. It's invisible when the edge is at BU, but the pieces are always moving so I don't think that's a problem. And you're right, avoiding rotations is definitely better when possible!
