JPO | Saint-Saëns: The Carnival of the Animals | Soloists Bruni and Iannone | Cond. Robert Maxym

Dear Music Lovers
This week, as part of the At Home with the JPO series, we are pleased to present The Carnival of the Animals, composed by Camille Saint-Saëns. The performance was recorded at the Linder Auditorium in August 2003 under the baton of Robert Maxym, featuring soloists Pasquale Iannone and Paola Bruni.
Following a disastrous concert tour of Germany, Saint-Saëns withdrew to a small Austrian village, where he composed The Carnival of the Animals in February 1886. From the beginning, Saint-Saëns regarded the work as a piece of fun! He had apparently intended to write the work for his students, however it was first performed at a private concert and described as a very witty fantasy burlesque, which was received with great enthusiasm.
