I have the same problem with my ps3 eith the rlod and dust inside...i got to clean it and put thermal paste on it and use the heat gun or not, the hair dryer...lol..saw someone use that in his video.. thanks for the video...gave me some tips on how to fix my ps3...don't want to throw away something I can still fix when I have so many games to it...great video...keep up the great work

Thank you! Mine was as bad caked with cig nicotine, blocked all vents coated many parts i had to replace. In the end, i have only the mobo out of the sick one. It just started gettin the blinkin red light, ill try thermal goo first but ill try heating if that dont work. 3rd gen phat 80gig.

That must mean that in begining of ps3 life the solder eventually gave out an seperated so the heat bonded the connection until gets hot enough to seperate again.

So i used a blow dryer for like 5 minutes, It still did same thing. It just beeps after i turn on then beeps twice. so i plugged in my hdmi and spammed the button for like 10 minutes and now it works :) Now i can keep it, My cousin said if i could fix it i can keep it lol so now i have 2 ps3s

This does not actually solve the true issue. The issue is with the NEC/Tokin capacitors which go bad. They're next to the CPU/GPU, it temporarily solves the problem via heat. I suspect the rumor spread from the 360 which actually had the ball joints get hairline cracks and whiskers etc... which a reflow does solve the 3 ring RROD.

To my understanding, YLOD happened due to extreme temperatures, this guy reversed using extreme temperatures. As long as you don't let it get very hot, PS3 should work fine.

It worked on my 60G model. Was unsure how long and how to apply heat gun. Couldn’t believe it worked. I had tried just cleaning dust but no good. Now I have backed up my data even if it only lasts awhile it was worth it.

akaZyloh You’re supposed to remove the old thermal paste with like a cloth and some rubbing alcohol or something, heat up the motherboard, then let it sit for a bit, and then you apply the thermal paste last before reassembly.

All your doing is heating up the faulty token capacitors beside the GPU and CPU which cause the console to temporarily work again. It might work for a few weeks or a few days but it’s guaranteed to fail again unless you replace the token capacitors

Hello, it was a heat gun, its used to heat up to the temperature of the fusion point of the solder, so any point of solder that was faulty is now properly set.

Do you think mainly the heatgun just melted the heatsink paste just a bit to make it a bit more viscous? I wouldn't think that heatgun would actually be able to reflow any bad solder joints. I'll try it out though.

Of course theres no update. These are just lazy and cheap ways to get the ps3 to boot. PS3s are junk so you have to actually do the correct repair. These guys (tons of videos on here) just warm it up, take pics of it booted and sell junk ps3s on ebay.

@@AjmalAju-hu9nr You're NOT supposed to use a vacuum on the components or the mobo! That can cause static electricity and might be why your PS3 isn't working. You're supposed to use compressed air to blow the dust away instead.

Painstakingly pull apart and give it another go. make sure the motherboard is nice and hot. But not too hot with out tiny capacitors falling off. Good luck!

I don't think hair dryer is hot enough to melt the solder. Heat guns are very cheap on ebay. how ever if your budget is super tight give a hair dryer a go.

clean it with vacuum. cpu and gpu solder has lifted on the chips. they need heat gun.

As an IT Tech by trade I can tell you right now that using a Vacuum is a really bad idea. They generate a lot of static electricity and one wrong touch it will fry the system. Best to use something called a datavac, which is like a can of compressed air but electronic yet designed for this purpose. Or, of course, a can of compressed air itself.

How important is it to heat up the board? I have already taken it apart, removed 99% of dust and replaced the thermal paste. I also sprayed and wiped all of the circuit boards and connections with wd-40 contact cleaner. If it is neccesary for me to heat the circuit boards, and can i do this on the top with a hair dryer still? or will I have to take it apart again and re do the thermal paste?

ogbmt as far as I know it softens the gold on. The board, if there are any small cracks or flaws caused by the electricity essentially making the material brittle then heating it up releases tension.

Exactly the same beaviour, with same beeps and blinking. I did everything right, heated board with heatgun, changed my thermal paste, and it ran for months, but RLOD come back from time to time and i need to repeat everything again. I did it three times. Yesterday it happened again. What's wrong with it? Mine was in ideal condition cech08 in chrome. My fault i didn't change the paste right as i bought it, cos it was sealed from factory, and i wanted to keep it original. But there was no dust at all, but GTAV have fried original old paste.

It depends on what is wrong with the PS3. YLOD or RLOD are pretty much the same thing, however, Yellow is more CPU and Heat Sync trouble related, while Red is Motherboard and Power Supply realted. Plus -- RLOD is more common for PS3 hit by a power surge, while YLOD is ones for one that been used heavyly. Both can be fixed with the same common 4 methods....However -- if the PS3 have power surge damage , then you might have to replace a internal cable/rebbon ; to get it up and Running 100. Edit: But yes, the term "Yellow Light of Death" covers both issues.

@@gospodin338+ If it has 4 usb ports, you can play PS2 games! All of the consoles that i bought had 4 ports. Its backwards compatible with PS2 formats! I have a ps2 but now i can play more games! Its just that, it overheats if you play a ps2 game on it! It heats up real fast so dont put into a closed area!

Was bei mir funktioniert ist die PS3 immer wieder zu starten bis die einfach angeht ohne Probleme (Löst das problem nicht kann aber dann benutzt werden für so 1-2 stunden😂)

Sweet! Amazing any machine with fans eventually build with dust regardless how clean your home is. This machine I bought second hand is an absolute disgrace lol.
