I think those little fish were more than likely washed down or swam to that pool at high water time. They were trying to swim up onto the spillway. Its normal for them to nibble on your legs and feet though, its the dead skin cells they eat. No, it doesn't mean your nasty or anything, our bodies are constantly shedding dead skin cells. (You're right some spa places use them for foot treatments) The fish are called Garra Rufa. And some souces say they are starved to death so they eat anything, but that cant be the case living in that large pool of water.

I know exactly how you felt when you were startled. I can remember being with my friends at a boat ramp at a nearby lake. We were sitting on the edge of the concrete ramp about chest deep where it drops off into deep water and I felt something nip at me. That was a cool culvert. That's one I would have been okay with in my younger days. All that space for the water. You aren't likely to run into trouble because you would have warning the water is starting to rise and still be able to float out if you couldn't walk in it. The smaller ones don't give you much cushion. As always the photo montage was excellent. Those fish were like water mosquitoes. Pesky and biting. Thanks for taking us along.

Theres a few creeks cut under route 81, 80, & 309, all starting at old reservoirs. These creeks roar sometimes filling 1/2 those tunnels. Unbelievable how fast the water gets ripping down from higher elevation. Those fish might be darters. They're protected. Theres native brook trout upstream that bloodlines started way before we came. They only get a few inchs big & you cant get near them. The local guys dump thier minnows in the creeks left over from fishing, because we never had fish downstream it was so polluted. Its just nice to see fish in the creek. It took decades to clean up & come back. That was a water snake. They get over a yard long & thick. They'll dive in the water & put thier tails under a rock, waving in the current like a weed. I suppose the tounge looks like a worm, the fish grab it & chomp..snake eats fish. Kegger city up there, drinking & swimming. Always wear sneakers because of glass. But its the locals paradise! We'd skip school, walk up those tunnels to the resi and enjoy life. "How'd you get sunburned in school"?? Gym class outside.

Great vid! Guppies! 😅😅😅😅 Well that's a really good sign that the stream is clean when there's that many fish in it and a snake and the snake was probably going after those little fish for food. But I know what you mean about the snakes most water snakes especially up north are not poisonous at all but still I don't like them around me either! I'm surprised that there was nobody else swimming there or anything because if it's a hot and humid day you would think there would be some teenagers or something down there. Where is this? Okay maybe you don't want to tell me. I would love to see this place. There's a place in many places along the Rapidan River in Shenandoah National Park and do you have to drive up on a bumpy road for 2 me and it's really clear and there's a lot of little fish like this and they nibbled at our feet and legs also, but let me tell you because the river is so Springfield it is freezing cold; even in July.

This was another fun culvert adventure. Nice swimming hole. It would be fun to tube down the culvert into the pool though the water may need to be a little deeper in the tunnel. You got the spa treatment from the Blacknose Dace. So cool and they can be annoying but they are harmless. They like to nibble on sediment you stir up, on dead skin, and sometimes they think your hair on your arms and legs are like small worms and if you have any small moles or scabs they nibble on those too. I used to sit on a rock or the bank of creeks and let them nibble on my feet to get the dead skin off plus it just felt good. Used to go barefoot a lot so had really tough callused feet that were always shedding dead skin. Yup, a free version of those places you see in other countries offering the service, though I was doing that long before the internet and I knew about those places. Looking forward to more culvert and creek videos.
