It's not that high, don't get me wrong. There are lots of rats doing time, but when you go in you have two weeks to show your paperwork to your rep ( at least for the white guys) might be different for other races, I know most hispanics don't tolerate it either. But anyways, if you have anything in your discovery or psi about information for a lighter sentence you're either stabbed, beaten or check in for your own protection and transferred. In lower security place there's a lot of them but in a medium or pen you wont see any. I'd say probably 40-50% of the us prison population cooperated for a lighter sentence.

@@jjbrowned313 I did 3 years in federal custody. I was at a camp, a low security and a medium security. The camp has pretty much first time non violent offenders with sentences under 10 years, with some guys who worked their way down from higher security institutions. Guys there aren't even shy about saying they cooperated for a lighter deal. If you get in any kind of trouble there you are shipped out to a higher security place and no one wants that. A low is pretty similar to a camp as far as the types of inmates except that's where they put all the sex offenders for the most part because at a camp there's no fence and they are a security risk to walk away to a town or whatever. The was a few fights when I was there but nothing serious, But this is really where prison politics start taking place, no one wants to be hanging around with a sex offender so you want to see that guys charges of whoever is in your group. Medium security is a much more serious place, you need your paperwork immediately within two weeks or you get run off the yard, violence is a very common occurrence

I worked in a maximum security juvenile detention center for the State of Texas. The juveniles included young men up to the age of 21. We didn't have body armor. All we had was a radio that would go off if it was tilted past 60 degrees and alert security. Honestly, it wasn't the inmates that I had to worry about, it was the staff that would stab you in the back in a heart beat. The young men respected discipline when it was fair, and as long as you treated them with respect, they had your back. I got hurt in a riot type situation, and would have been hurt worse if some of the inmates had not come to my aid and protected me from others. I still got fucked up real bad, and disabled, but I am still alive...always hated the sound of those big steel gates closing behind me when I was moving thru the facility...felt like I was incarcerated for up to 12 hours a day...

I’ve done over 10 yrs in multiple prisons in 2 states and that’s true. In fact the first year I was terrified and when I saw any violence I’d be up all night thinking. But prison desensitizes and it wasn’t long I could be woken by someone getting beat by 4 guys or someone having boiling water on someone’s face. Etc. prison makes men animals

I retired from the California prison system (26 years) as a lieutenant. The corrections staff did in fact control the inmate population. There were times when the inmates thought and acted like they were in control, but the truth was they conformed. The primary method of getting a population or society to conform is discipline.

I had my tattoo sanded off. That's how they used to do it before they had lasers. I was in the Marines and a Navy doctor did it. He fixed a bowl of water and a bowl of salt. Then he wrapped his hand in gauze and dipped it in the water and in the salt. Then he proceeded to "scrub" my arm with it till there was nothing but raw meat showing. He covered that in a gauze bandage and told me to come back in two days. When I came back, he ripped off the bandage and showed me that the tattoo was lighter and it was also imprinted on the bandage. Then he wrapped it again and told me to come back in one day. He had to rip that bandage off four or five times before the tattoo was gone. I was left with a nasty scar there for years but it very slowly went away. This was back in 1982 and, in 2018, you can barely tell there was ever a scar. If The doctor called that removal method a Salabrasion.

The MOB is still in full effect it just has less Organization and they finally got smart and quit seeking attention like John Gotti did. John Gotti Jr just got Indicted for Extortion. They just do it behind doors and low key cause it's alot harder to get away with murder these days than back in the John Gotti and Gambino family Days...they didn't have DNA test, they didn't have all these ways to catch Murderers that they do nowadays...they can catch u just by leaving a cigarette but these says...that's why there's nomore John Gotti s, Bonnie and Clydes, Daz Dillenger, Baby Face Nelson, you can't do shit like that anymore these days and get away with it...that's why they could do shit like that back in the day because they didn't have the Technology they have these days...if they id Dillenger wouldn't been able rob all those banks, Gotti wouldn't have made it a year being a Mob Boss, wouldn't have been no Pablo Escobar either...the only one who would have escaped the longest would have been El Chapo...yeh he finally got caught but it took them Decades with the right Technology and a Interview by Sean Penn 😂😂 All of these outlaws had the same flaw tho...they wanted to be Famous. Im surprised Gotti wasn't killed after bringing all that Media attention and what brought El Chapo down was he wanted Sean Penn to play him in a Movie and that Interview lead to his Capture...if they would've just been happy with all that Money alot of them would still be Free/Alive but they want the Attention/Fame as well...Hey Look at me...Look at how many people I've killed...look at all the drugs I sold. If I was el chapo I would've bought a new Face (plastic surger) lol and would have had new fingerprint implants. With all that said...wanting to be Famous is what brought the 2 most Powerful Outlaws down...John Gotti and El Chapo. Pablo didn't really want the Fame it just came naturally cause he was so feared. Whitey bulger was a foot soldier compared to these guys but he was a low life who preyed on the weak and was a Rat 🐀

I did TKD also. I know the carpet Joe's talking about. It's that weird blue and black spotted, thin as paper office carpet with MAYBE a two inch thick gymnastics pad over. My instructor once threw me down, when demonstrating basic single hand throws, off the pad and my head hit the carpet covered concrete. When you got past your red belt, classes went from learning patterns mostly to practical use, which is sparring and weapon defense. There was this one kid that acted just like the guy Joe talked about who got brought up from the blue/red belt class early. I want sure whether my instructor thought he had potential or he needed a lesson in self control, but I did what Joe did and kicked the living shit out of him when he didn't show the self control needed to actually spar and not fight. I hurt him, but my instructor didn't jump on me about it, he jumped his case for pushing me Surprised the instructor there didn't deal with it in the same way, but I've heard of old school guys letting them learn the hard way also.

My friends a corrections officer and he explained it like this, he said imagine when your wife is in a bad mood and she is being negative after a while that starts to effect you, maybe you end up fighting but either way her bad mood effects you. So point being that the negativity around you effects you. And the prison is full of negativity and it effects you, and it’s every day 8 sometimes 16 hour shifts if you work a double. Has to be hard to separate work from home.

Yes it is as a retired correctional officer of 15 years it is hard to keep a positive attitude both at work and home. You are surrounded by people who have no respect for themselves and definitely have no respect for others.
