Fun fact: The name for Russia comes from an area in Sweden called "Roslagen" - basically meaning Rowers law. It was the vikings of Roslagen that laid the foundation of the Rus. Since Swedish vikings went more to the east, to Byzantium to trade or to work as mercenaries while it was more common that Norwegian or Danish vikings raided British isles.

Not a chance! Yesterday's Vikinger (plural Vikings) has become modern veikinger. Vikinger and veikinger sound very similar but have completely opposite meanings. "Veikinger" means weaklets, or weak people. Just take a look at Sweden where the third most spoken language is Arabic! Or the most common names of newborn boys in Oslo, Norway are Muhammed! The problem is... saying you want to be reborn as a viking is as saying you want to be reborn as a samurai or pirate. Vikings were not a volk. What joe means when he speaks about "viking dna" is actually "northmen dna" viking in the old skandinavian tongue is somone who goes on a wiking. As much as a samurai is somone who follows the bushido. Besides that he has a very wrong picture of the northmen. Only the minority were actual vikings. The majority were merchants or farmers. The reason they raided so much more often was so that they could sell the shit they got. The romantic picture of the savages that loved war is simply not true. They went on wikings to steal valueable shit so they could sell it.

"Fly Agaric" but that's rather unpredictable, it's also speculated if that's what was called in the Sanscrit Riga Veda books, also used by Siberian Shamanistists, must dry for at least 3 months before trying, has to be in huge amounts 5-7 pieces taste like fish and needs a little boost by 1-2 cl alcohol or some c-vitamin rich stuff, very different from one time to another, some times like the best drunk time you ever had and that without the loss of balance other times it knocks you out totally for a day and you meet the "Goods" laying down for 10 hours and then you have those times when you are travelling somewhere else than where you are physically or you end up in a world that looks like like it's made out of photos and they keep coming at you looking like the multiplying windows in old windows 95,98. But if you look at those hats that are on some of the "Viking carvings statues" they have a hat with a specific shape if you find the mushroom with the same shaped hat 1/2 inch wide and 1-3 inch in height you're in for a treat, "somebody thou got a giant pupil in one eye and a microscopical small in the other and that effect stayed for days afterwards, I guess that could bee the reason the Norse Gods Tales telling the storie of Odin who lost one of his eyes for drinking in the well of wisdom, but that is my interpretation of what happened. I think they also used some of the very poisonous flowers like prepared extract of Digitalis purpurea and Aconitum napellus also, but I don't know how and don't think anybody should try because they are deadly with a fatally poison they are so poisoned so no room for mistakes there, once meet a person that did the Digitalis who said it was like effect of Acid x 10 and feelt like it boosted on steroids where it's effect was like jumping into a moon rocket at taking off, a little like the loss of control that people says about DMT. I guess there was a whole world of magic stuff then, they also searched for a tiny micro mushroom that sometimes lived on Odon Berries think they had a special name for those when they found them some old word sounding like "Crazy Maniac Berrys" even if it's not the berry itself, end the effect of that was described as we describe Berserk today.

So I was solo, all alone in the pit a couple weeks before I was set to have spine surgery. The people in pit could tell I was injured by the way I walked, a few of them told their friends and they formed a wall of people around me so I didn't have worry about getting smashed and enjoy the show. That was probably one of the best metal show memories I have.

@Punished Chris absolutely. Been in some CRAZY pits back in the day. Early Pantera (RIP Dime and Vinny), Hatebeeed, Fear Factory, Machine Head, Chimera, even early Slipknot shows were pretty wild. Through them all though, besides that 1% of assholes that usually got jumped by 15 random new best friends, everybody lived and thrashed by the golden rule:. "One of your brothers or sisters hits the floor, get them up! Next time it might be your ass down there and they're going to be there to help you up!" I remember at a Lamb of God show back in probably '03, a buddy's white Jagermeister t-shirt get turned pink from a combination of blood and sweat and beer. Great times.

September 2011 at rock in rio - brazil, i was there during slipknot's concert and was the most insane mosh pit i've ever been, they asked all of us to get low on the ground before jump and start it, it was over a hundred thousand people and even the cops working in the security of the event went down for it, corey said it during the concert that it was the largest crowd they ever played for and the most energetic, the mosh pit was so huge that the television channels transmitting it back in the day had problems filming it, there was more than half the people of the crowd in the mosh pit, complete anarchy and i've got lost from my friends and only managed to find them hours after the concert.

I had someone whom i had never met stand behind me at the front of a huge show. Korn was up. I was pressed against the gate and he was behind me arms on the either side of me with his arms locked as the whole crowd surged forward. I could tell it was a struggle to keep us from getting crushed against the gate. I really owed him one bc I would have been absolutely squashed.

Americans are brainwashed from the start of school with lines of rhetoric such as "Greatest Nation on Earth" & "Fighting for our freedom". Greatest at what? By no unit other than GDP is America greatest at, unless you count negative attributes. What freedom are they fighting for? Oil? Opiates? Military Expansion? If you catch a child young enough you can teach them anything, any religion, racism or ideology. At a young age we are seeking identity. If you identify with the things you are taught when you are a child it becomes a part of self. A part of your core. It takes a strong individual mind to recognize, address and remove these things from 'self'. America knows this, if you do not show a child an alternative view, they will never consider it. By the time they are adult, it is too late, the ideology is part of their core identity. This is why they use the Rhetoric. This is why they do not teach their children about other parts of the world. This is what makes them so ignorant of the world, and so nationalist, without questioning it. This only serves the state, not the the indivual. How many poor or working class Americans are still against the notion of free health care? In a world of sleepers, America snores the loudest!

@@darkraft1020 In terms of culture for it's relatively short history it has produced culture in abundance. Unfortunately, the political and geopolitical agenda has corrupted the country and may I say the rest of the world. In Europe you need to learn about other European countries. In America, they need only learn about Mexicans and Canadians so in that respect you guys are no different. I could just as easily be appalled by your lack of understanding of a far Eastern country. I'll admit it though, not as appalled as from an American hehe. Still, America has been their military arm for the past 100 years. As the last bastion of non-leftist ideology, it is worth fighting for-much of what you see on the media isn't representative of America. If you took conservative America (hardly ever shown on media) and juxtaposed it among the European nations, it would assimilate rather quickly as another European country.

The shows I frequently go to don't normally have mosh pits, but I'll never forget one - an outdoor festival, after a rain, so the ground was pure mud, and a pit formed at the stage. My buddy and I ran in, and anytime someone slipped and fell (which I did) people would immediately run over and help you up so you weren't trampled. If you lost a shoe, a hat, your glasses, etc.., someone would always pick it up and hold it high in the air while moshing so you could get it back. A tough crowd, but they looked out for each other.

The soccer choir was when the Islandic people got so good that they could attend the World cup. The people if Island was soon proud, that they was able to match other European and worldwide teams. Remember, Island has a very small population, so they are a proud people, and also has roots in the Viking area. So what u hear is not everybody on that stadium, it's 50 % of it, and they are all from island. Cheers from another Viking, checking in from Denmark. Houu!

As a 16 year old girl I got caught up in a mushpit and I was like, oh shit I'm in trouble! Suddenly I felt nothing and when I turned around this huge Viking guy stood behind me with his arms around me without touching me. He then put his hands together for me to step on and he lifted me up and I crowdsurfed my way to safety Still grateful till this day ❤

James, my DNA stayed with me. (DNA tests showed that the majority, 80 percent, of my bloodline DNA is Scandinavian. The rest is Western European with one percent Byzantine. I don’t shy away from conflict or casualties. I stay focused in emergent situations. When there is an emergent situation I run TO IT, not from it. It served me well in the military. That’s probably one of the reasons I was made a fire team leader (& put in charge of people in other situations). When the shit hit the fan, I stayed focused & defaulted to the training. When people on my teams panicked, I would grab them, look them in the eyes & remind them/instruct them to follow procedures. So, yes, that “warrior mentality” stayed with us, some of us, at least. Remember, not all Vikings were explorers & warriors. Some stayed home to farm & tend to the villages.

I was a guitar tech for 20 years and was Behemoth and Gojira tech on the radio rebellion tour in about 07 ,the soda club or opera house in Canada. It was a guitar change for Behemoth singer Nergal and got my nose broken by a stage jumper, for 1 minute the best air flow I ever had till the blood faucet. The amount of hair and scalp left on the floor when the show was over will never be forgotten. Dreads with bloody roots. Sic pit bro. Even our stage was dangerous. I didn't care. That metal.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is likely just mythology and legends. Warrior burials of females have happened but they are extremely rare and not by any means a normal part of the culture. Viking society wouldn't have allowed women to freely break traditional roles without exceptional circumstances, and they were treated more like slaves or children than grown men. The sagas are not a historical record as such. They are more like a combination of true events mixed with mythology over time. Like a game of telephone.
