Say what you want, but Billy is an interesting interview. I saw him on Howard Stern in 1999 discussing his role in producing Hole's latest album at that point, and he stated that he felt at least 6 songs on the album were material Kurt had worked on for Nirvana...He also spoke on the future of the music industry at that point and made a comment that he believe before his time in the industry was over, that all music would be "free" and artists would have to make a living through merchandise and touring.....that's been 21 years ago now, and we've practically reached that point.

I have such a soft spot for Smashing Pumpkins. Back when I was in 7th grade, they were the first concert I went to. My friend Sandy McSorley's older brother worked for the company who set up the shows for the band. We got backstage passes at Michigan State University. They had images from Planet of the Apes on them (super badass, right?). Now, the stage is U-shaped, and this essentially meant we spent the entire concert, standing on huge equipment boxes off to the side of the stage, rocking out. During the break, Billy handed guitar strings and picks to an assistant, who came over and gave them to us (blue and orange guitar picks, with the band's heart with the S and P inside logo on them) and waved to us. I remember that moment to this day. No other concert will ever compare.

I saw Smashing Pumpkins when Gish (hands down their greatest achievement, and one of the finest debut albums ever by any band) had come out; they played a little club in New Haven CT (not Toad's Place) and there wasn't even a stage...we stood eye level right in front of Billy Corgan and co. on a Sunday night...they played like the rockstars they would become...with very few people in the place. Was an unforgettable experience.
@walrusnation24962 жыл бұрын
nah, I disagree that Gish is their greatest achievement, though it is one hell of a debut. Even Billy has been on record saying his lyrics on that album were subpar in comparison to albums like Siamese, Mellon Collie, and even some of the stuff on Adore. Soaked in Bleach requires some context, so the average person who watched it on Netflix probably wouldn't understand all the details. That being said- whether you agree with the movie or not, if you like Nirvana or not, there's too many suspicious things surrounding Cobain's death; the case should at least be reopened.

Soaked in Bleach is not a credible documentary at all. Soaked in Bleach is pretty much just “we know nothing about the heroin tolerance of a seasoned addict, nothing about the physics of where a shotgun shell could possibly eject. Kirk or whatever his name is talked about suicide but he was clearly joking. Kirk bought a gun and went to rehab and left right away, but we’ll show a bunch of video clips of him smiling and joking and here’s a bunch of times Courtney lied let’s concentrate on how weird Courtney is”

Yeah but, had Billy Corgan not been in the room, Joe Rogan would've been eating up the "Kurt Cobain murder conspiracy". Jamie would've pulled something up, Joe would wax the whole "Dude, this is some creepy shit right here" etc etc. The doc wasn't made by just some guy, either; he was the private investigator hired by Courtney Love to locate Cobain during his disappearance up until his suicide/alleged murder. Grew up on 70's and late 60's music. Then the 80's came and with a few exceptions, i felt it was the end of great raw band sounds. Then the 90's came and it finally returned, picking up where the 70's left off and adding something new and fresh. Aside from the often weird dark depressive lyrics and attitudes, it was a fantastic decade for rock and roll. And since the early 2000's, with a few exceptions, we're back in that crappy place of no original raw rock band sound. Only it's worse than that, cause hardly anyone plays an instrument anymore. Makes me appreciate that much more all the great bands i got to experience in their beginning. The days of so many great bands and albums, you just don't have the time to catch everything out there. Unfortunately, I'm now caught up and wishing i could start it all over. It's all machines now. Soon even a machine will be making comments for me.

The Lone Ranger -- Meh. I'd like to give Corgan the benefit of the doubt that he'd pipe up if he knew or even suspected that Courtney was directly involved in Kurt's death. I've read the entirety of Tom Grant's website, as well as his "Cobain Case Study Manual", and have also read the _Love & Death_ book by Ian Halperin, and have watched the Soaked in Bleach film. I've also read several of the Nirvana bios and have been kind of obsessively absorbing all of the Nirvana-related info that I can get my paws on since 1991. I'm only putting that out there to make it clear that I'm familiar with the conspiracy claims. From everything I've read and watched, including Corgan's interview here, I think it's likely that Courtney was cheating on Cobain while she was married to him. Everett True, who was friends with both Kurt & Courtney and who wrote his own bio on Nirvana, seemed to think so, too. I suspect that's what Billy was alluding to when he said, "I was there for the before, a little bit during, and there for the after", but I could be reading too much into it. If she did cheat on Kurt with Billy, though, then Billy might simply have agreed not to go public with that info.
