it's hard to determine the difference between a cult and a religion. they're both firmly held beliefs which is what keeps the government from interfering(church and state and all that). So it's this kinda fucked up stalemate where the government won't intervene because it will set a precedent and then they'd have to interfere in every religion essentially, because the differences are hard to put onto paper. I genuinely believe that Hubbard saw a loop hole for a get rich quick scheme that's still going after he's died.

My uncle was a Scientologist. Also a chiropractor, go figure. He coerced my dad to go to the church in San Francisco. Dad was hooked up to the e meter. He tried to see what was on the screen and the auditor covered the machine and said “you can’t look”. Dad promptly dropped the soup cans and forcefully walked out the front door. She did, and so I do absolutely say good for her ON THAT. However, she very clearly still seems to reflexively have an air of superiority about her. Now, maybe this was her personality even before she joined the church, I don't know. But hearing her explain back these processes to Joe (tho I've seen this repeatedly when she's doing it to other talk/podcast show hosts, for that matter), sure she's talking about really weird shit, but the nuts and bolts of what she's saying is pretty straight forward. And yet, she keeps on interrupting herself to ask the person "are you getting this?", and when the interviewer isn't even giving any outward sign that they're totally lost. It's this sort of passive/aggressive way she's maintaining this "no hon, you're just not gonna get it unless I explain it to you in this very specific way" (and what turns out to be a fairly simple way). It's this constant expectation that the person listening to her isn't smart or open enough to fully grasp what she's saying. That is NOT a positive attribute to have in your personality, I'm sorry.

One day they actually came to our door in hazmat suits ( no joke from head to toe hazmat suits during covid, I answered the door thinking it was covid related and on their chest it said the church of scientology and I lost my mind in shock they came to the house. And, honestly, most people still can't shake it as adults. It took me a long time to become a logical adult and stop believing in the christian nonsense. Because, here we are today, many of us so-called "logical" christians, laughing and knocking down Scientology, and the going clear, the space spirits that were thrown into volcanoes, and Xenu, all while at the same time believing that christ walked on water, fed thousands with one fish and resurrected after being murdered three days earlier! We spent years criticizing the scientology bullshit while believing our own bullshit at the same time. Many people will not want to hear it, but christianity, islam, Buddhism, Judaism, any religion really, are all as much of a cult as scientology is. And the biggest culprit is christianity, which has been brainwashing and robbing people for centuries before L. Ron Hubbard had a bright idea that one day!

I took a "personality test" at the Scientology center on Hollywood Blvd. I knew the whole thing was bogus, but I wanted to see what it was about. After the "test" they will grade it, and it will come out "concerning." I was "messed up" and in need of Scientology. I got interviewed by an attractive woman who was pushy. She wanted me to pay $25 or something for a "first meeting." I didn't want to do it, and finally she had enough. She said for me to "enjoy my f'd up life." She was mad. So glad I left.

@@Sunflowers__5 and yet she stayed on for 30 years through her own choice. She calls herself a hypocrite in interviews. She definitely enjoyed the fruits of being in the so called ‘cult’ with her television and movie stints. It would have been more gracious to say, thank you, and move on with her life. Ultimately, I’m with Kirstey Alley on this and agree with the Church’s statement: “It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt by rewriting her history with it, including omitting that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled…”. Then, she decides to milk it by producing the controversial series. She’s no different from Paul Haggis, just another hypocrite. I don’t expect you to agree with me but I’m no fool to think she’s a simple, indoctrinated human being. There are interviews online which describe her true character, please take a look. Thanks and goodbye.

Growing up I always assumed this stuff only existed in remote states of America in obscure little communes, and so it genuinely stuns me that in my life time I have walked passed the church of Scientology in New York and have uber’d past a church in London.

Landon Kromhout it's a mentally abusive cult, not a physically abusive one. It doesn't have a malevolent agenda, but it is cult of narcissism and arrogance.

Leah, when I was in prison I watched reruns of king of queens and you were the only beautiful thing in my world at that time. Thanks for the comedy as well. I've been free for 10 years now and I'm a chef. Do you want to know the meaning of life? Spend 4 years in Texas's worst prisons then get out and make something of yourself and tell me you don't appreciate life. Life's beautiful man

I entered Scientology back in the 70's when I was an impressionable kid. I was looking for answers and was impressed with some of the teachings so I joined the group. It took about 2 weeks to figure out it was a cult of wackos
