In the US Army, there are “commissioned officers”, generally shortened to “officers” (lieutenant, captain, major, general, etc) and “non-commissioned officers” (sergeant, I think technically corporal). NCOs are promoted from within the ranks, meaning privates get promoted to corporals to sergeants and so on. Officers, on the other hand, are basically recruited from outside the military through college programs or military academies. They basically have a bachelor’s degree in Army, and start as a lieutenant. This means that a lieutenant starts out very young a lot of the time, as young as 22, and has a rank parallel to an NCO who may have spent over a decade reaching their rank. (This is a plot point in Saving Private Ryan, if I’m not mistaken). This means that you don’t demote a lieutenant. You kick them out. Former Lieutenant Surge was probably discharged for his incompetence

I think this vs the oddish run highlights just how insane special sweeping was in gen 1, growth basically equals calm mind and there are way fewer effective special walls than physical. Even a pokemon with relatively bad type and stats like bellsprout can deal with so many threats by just setting up six growths.

@louisrizzi99902 жыл бұрын
@@Bacchus325 True but growth wouldn't provide sp. def boosts in modern pokemon, and like I said there are a lot more checks to calm mind sweepers in later generations with many more specially bulky pokemon, and the introduction of steel+dragon resist types. You also have more priority moves and fast physical attackers that could ohko boosted bellsprout, as exemplified with how much more trouble this run could have had if there were more enemy teams with pokemon like aerodactyl or gyarados. Basically gen 1 was an unbalanced mess, but I love seeing how different this run was from oddish as a result of the busted mechanics working in its favor.

@@jordanthejq12 judging by the stat calculations I ran if scyther got twin needle it would ohko all the psychics. It ohkos mewtwo 90% of the time after a swords dance. If mewtwo is paralyzed it just straight up loses. Scyther would be top 5 in the game. Pinsir would probably also be OU if it got twin needle.
@rainpooper70882 жыл бұрын
Scyther actually gets only Normal type moves in RB, so it will have to pull an Eevee and use Bide against the Ghosts in the Pokémon Tower and Mimic will be mandatory for Agatha. Pinsir fares a little better in this regard as it at least gets Seismic Toss, but it also levels up slower which can be a curse or a blessing depending on how much he Badge boost glitches. While both get Swords Dance, unlike Pinsir who at least gets TM Body Slam, Scyther has no moves to really take advantage of it very well since Slash always crits, Take Down and Double Edge have recoil, Skull Bash takes two turns and TM Hyper Beam is pretty out of the way and Jrose usually avoids getting it. Scyther also has more weaknesses due to its Flying typing, so I can see Surge and Lorelei being an issue for it but not Pinsir. Needless to say, Brock will be awful for both as they only have a weak Normal type move to start off with.

Bellsprout should be very doable with minimum battles, I almost did minimum battles with Bulbasaur before, with the only the optional battle being the Body Slam trainer as I couldn't beat Rival 3 without it. Considering Bellsprout will have Growth, Sleep Powder, and Wrap by Rival 3, it can still keep up with minimum battles by that point, and then is just better than Bulbasaur for the rest of the run, so anything Bulbasaur did it'll do better. In that regard, putting it in the same tier as Poliwag was justified; minimum battles is doable, it'll just make battles annoyingly inconsistent.

I was never invested in the Bellsprout line as a kid, but man, this video demonstrates that I was missing out. Thank you for another incredible run, Jrose!

I’m really excited for when we get deep enough into this series to visit the evolved forms of these Pokémon. I’m curious if their relative first form performances will predict how well the final forms do.

I have done ratitac to see and he did 2h less than rattata, also i was playing with normal speed so idk how to calculate real time rattata would have done with normal game speed
@LQVaughn2 жыл бұрын
@@bretonquentin9549 interesting! What level did you end up finishing the game at?
@bretonquentin95492 жыл бұрын
Level 69, but i used all my rare candy and done elite 4 without struggling that much, so i think it's doable at lower level :)

You're spoiling us with this speed, JRose. Not that I'm complaining. At this rate, you'll tear through all the rest in no time.

In Sergeant/Corporal/Private/whatever Surge's defence (Sergeant Surge actually sounds good), you skip him until much later in runs where he actually has any advantage. if he was in Misty's position and his battle was necessary to use Cut in the field, he'd probably put up a lot more wins, like Misty herself. I wonder how the gym leaders decide amongst themselves who gets to give permission slips to use the various HMs. That'd be an interesting debate. By the by, I haven't played gen 1 myself in about 15 years. How far can you actually get without Cut? Can you get to Celadon?
@jordanthejq122 жыл бұрын
Nope, there's a Cut tree blocking the east exit from Cerulean, and Snorlax lies to the east of Vermillion (though you can use Route 11 for some emergency XP before your next Gym). You can go north to Bill's, after which point the way to Vermillion opens. You can clear the SS Anne and get Cut there, but you cannot leave the Cerulean/Vermillion throughway without beating Misty.
@sheilaburrowes90812 жыл бұрын
@@jordanthejq12 Thank you mate. It was surprisingly difficult to get a real answer from search engines. I think because the results just assume you're playing the game normally and not looking to sequence break it to the max possible extent. :)

Yes! I've been waiting for this run. I tried it myself a while back and got to the elite four with minimum battles, but then just kept getting trolled by Lance and Lorilei. So many freezes. Bellsprout has become one of my favorite pokemon because of it though.
@Carlitonsp12 жыл бұрын
Note: Having done a run of this myself, you can make it to at least the Elite Four on minimum battles, but it requires very luck based strategies based on Sleep Powder and Growth.

My first experience as a kid with Blue's 'Good AI' was when I was using only Blastoise in my first ever playthrough, and I had a Bellsprout for cut in my party. I was fighting Rival 6 and swept all his team except his Venasaur, which has poison powder. I swapped to the level 6 Bellsprout and ended up killing it because it couldn't hit me.

So when can we expect the victreebell run? Interesting to see how it'd do since bellsprout did so well
@killwillv26102 жыл бұрын
James from Team Rocket agrees 😂
@tiemen90952 жыл бұрын
If you try a "How fast can I" starting with Victreebel you'll see that this evolution line is incredibly powerful. I am not surprised Bellsprout did well too.
@vanman91422 жыл бұрын
In my opinion the moveset here was too complicated. Literally sleep powder, growth, razor leaf, and mega drain will carry you through the entire run all on their own. Growth is just that busted. Still, awesome video! Thanks, jrose! 😁

The battle between Dragonite and Bellsprout was absolutely hilarious 😂 I think Oddish was uniquely difficult in ways that were unprecedented and unforeseen and I am not surprised that Bellsprout has an easier time at least in the early game I'd quite like to see you try doing runs with Snorlax, Aerodactyl, the other fossils, Jynx, Lickitung, and Mr. Mime

Amazing how a few moves can make similar mons so different to play with. Wrap was already a bog advantage over Oddish in the early game, but this run shows how busted growth in gen 1.
@munchrai63962 жыл бұрын
This was great. I loved how much you applied what you learned from the Oddish run to make this one of the most optimized runs I've seen. Looking forward to exeggute and maybe Psyduck, but other than that, most of the pre-evolved pokemon we have left aren't that interesting. Although, we still haven't done Machop, so that'll probably be the hardest Pokemon we have left to do
