FAQ time: 1) Why did you go the long way around in Cerulean Gym? A: Movement error, cost maybe 2-3 seconds 2) Why are animations on? A: They aren't except for the last battle, which turns them on? automatically 3) Why don't you look how I pictured? A: Because I look how I look?

Why were you pressing down on cycling road? It moves you to nearly bottom with out button input. Would remove the old controller issue you had.

Hey, hope you see this: if you’re wondering why sometimes and item is used before you attack when you’re faster (ie against lt. Surge’s Pikachu) is because the ai picked quick attack and it uses the priority of the move instead of the item. Just letting you know since you questioned it in an older video

Just came here to say “I” renders faster than “A” because it is 16 pixels rather the 33 pixels that need to be drawn using “A” so the extra 1.6 seconds necessary to reach “I” is okay because it saves you 9 seconds overall. * *not scientifically backed up but you can hear Werster rant about it if you are so inclined.

You can hold a direction going into a select to buffer an input and I is just one space left of A where the cursor starts. Would it not be equally as fast to select I rather than A?

I am 95% sure that this is just not true lmao The gameboy uses a tile system where each 8x8 block of pixels is a single tile. As far as I’m aware, gen 1 games don’t include kerning in the font, so every tile (or letter) would take the same amount of time to draw or update

@@AlanWatts33 as mentioned in the video, there are solo run speedruns. there's even a category for mewtwo, and he can submit it as such. It's just that jrose opted to do no in-battle items, despite solo rules allowing for then. so no way he's getting WR.

Jrose, I’ve always enjoyed your videos, but this one was by far my favorite. My heart was racing as you worked through the E4, and I cheered with you when you beat the champ. Out of gen1 it sounds like either articuno or zapdos would have the shortest cry

Dunno if Zapdos would be a good fit. In his zapdos video, zapdos is already 10 minutes behind Mewtwo's previous record at Mt. Moon. It's hard to imagine a short cry making up for a poor move pool when you can simply let a pokemon's health enter the red zone and bypass the cry anyway.

The two WR strategies are (or were when the 2-hour mark was first broken) Blastoise-only and Blastoise/Nidoking But they use items and abuse OHKO moves

Its doable if you OHKO everything. Speedrunners set up speed, x acc and horn drill/fissure anything that isnt weak to ice

Out of curiosity, why did you teach Thunderbolt to Mewtwo right after Lt. Surge? If you had waited until after Rock Tunnel you could have taught it Bubble Beam to make the Hiker a lot easier

Actually I was thinking with all the talk of saving trips to the pokecenter if he used TM's, PP ups and such at the right time to restore/replace spent power points he could save some time that way. Pretty sure this generation gives you full PP when you learn a new move.

That would probably be because he doesn't count the champion himself as the split, he counts the end of the game as the split. The timer keeps going until the credits roll.

I love how Bruno is such a joke, that JRose doesn't even have a split for him, it just goes Lorelei to Lottery (Agatha). Which makes sense, cause if you were to put this in platformer terms, Bruno is basically an autoscroller.
