I'm very interested in how a Snorlax run would turn out. It starts out with amnesia at level 1, so once you beat Brock you have a move that increases both your attack AND special due to the badge boost glitch. Could make for a very fun run.

So bide is one of the best moves against Agatha?
@blah95004 жыл бұрын
For the bide confusion at 2:20, this is taken from bulbapedia: “The damage received during the period is counted as equal to the last amount of damage done. The last amount of damage done will include crash damage, an opponent's self-inflicted confusion damage, and the full damage absorbed by a substitute. Additionally, if the opponent does not use an attack that misses, the last amount of damage done will not be reset, effectively resulting in damage done during the previous turn also being counted as damage done during that turn.”
@MsCravenMoorehead4 жыл бұрын
So, you're saying: * 9 damage done * Confuse ray missed (another 9 dmg calc'd) * Bide returns 2x (9+9) // 36dmg?
@blah95004 жыл бұрын
Essentially that initial night shade will count for every turn when the “last damage done” is not reset”. So i guess the optimal strategy once he had already used bide prior to your night shade, would be to use lick? Or at least use lick once, then confuse ray. That way the most recent damage would be from lick, and then you can confuse it. This weird status of the last damage dealt causes a lotttttt of fun stuff with counter as well. Counter can even counter itself. You can counter hyper beam during its recharge turn if you outspeed, etc. Something fun to do if you have, say a chansey vs a tauros (any faster hyper beam user really). Use thunderwave to paralyze it on the same turn it uses hyper beam, then use counter. Heres another dumb, but unrelated mechanic. If a pokemon that has yet to recharge is target by a sleep move, it is put to sleep no matter what. As in the accuracy check is bypassed, and its current status is overridden. Using the same example above, paralyze the opponent on the same turn hyper beam is used against you. Then use sing, and tauros will be put to sleep, even though it was paralyzed. This is risky though because it gets rid of the recharge, meaning tauros will be ready to attack next turn if it gets a first-turn wake. HOWEVER, thanks to more gen 1 fun, the tauros will still be slower because the paralysis speed drop persists until status healing item is used on it or it switches out. Ok sorry, done ranting :p

Onix KO'ing Gengar with Bide was baffling, and there isn't anything on Bulbapedia that indicates Bide should have done more than 18 damage since Onix didn't hurt itself in confusion. My only guess is the game somehow treated the confusion check as the last damage dealt, and since the game rolls a number between 0 and 255 for checks, it could have very well picked a number higher than 14, meaning it would have done at least 30 damage, and possibly up to 510. Gen 1 is a mess.
@planettrax97544 жыл бұрын
wait wait wait... So I've been using Night Shade wrong all my life until now? I thought it calculated damage by applying your level to the power of the attack, so a lv90 Gengar Night Shade would have the same power as a Flamethrower... But instead it will slash 95 HP of the enemy? Jeezus I'm very dumb...

I honestly would like to see a Tauros solo run considering that in competitive is, besides Mewtwo and Mew, the best mon in the game
@galararticuno94194 жыл бұрын
It's level up moves suck though. Tauros is good in competitive because it's fast and wins almost all 1v1s but it's frail and won't be sweeping whole teams with ease
@LuSoloLu4 жыл бұрын
@@galararticuno9419 Although I do agree that it level up moves suck, I don't think it's frail. Jrose has worked with waaay worst mons and I believe that with Body Slam and Hyperbeam Tauros is capable of destroying teams (Agatha will be hard, though)
@galararticuno94194 жыл бұрын
@@LuSoloLu Agatha shouldn't be that hard Tauros gets Earthquake. Blizzard for Lance too. I'm sure it is decent but the beginning is going to drag it down and Hyper Beam will require a bunch of healing items. Not having any super effective + stab opportunities means it's not going to be okhoing much either.

Great video! I like how you've expanded to about all of gen 1 mons. Speaking of which, I know you've said a Weedle challenge is unlikely, but what about a Kakuna challenge? Harden would let you exploit the badge boost glitch. It'd still be an uphill battle, but you'd at least have that one more tool than with Weedle.
@nemohimself2580 Жыл бұрын
Problem is that Kakuna (and Metapod) can *only* learn harden, so they would need to keep only 6 uses of harden for badge boost, then struggle to victory.

@mayborneflower4 жыл бұрын
1:59 - I learned about this while doing a Rivals vs Gym Leaders thing over on Pokémon Showdown (which perfectly retains most of the Gen I glitches faithfully). I was that whole thing for... personal reasons. What you suffered from against Onix was the Damage Duplication Glitch. There’s apparently several circumstances and applications for it, but the big claim to fame involves Bide. The long and short of it is that if you get hit on the first turn of Bide but not the second turn, the damage from the first turn is registered a second time in spite of no additional damage being sustained. So you did 9 damage turn one, it got counted twice for a total of 18 damage, and then Bide released energy to double the power to an accumulated 36 HP when you were capped at 31 HP. If you find yourself in that situation again, just attack again with a weaker move because you’re gonna be punished for two turns of attacking either way. Just cut your losses and pray.
@Eledar954 жыл бұрын
I actually think, about the Onix kill, that he deals double damage with bide. So double of HIS level. But still, it's 28. Not 29. So why?
@zeroblade84 жыл бұрын
That doesn’t make sense. Bide does damage in accordance with the damage you take, it has nothing to do with level, even in Gen 1
@tylerlarsen18424 жыл бұрын
Turns out that Bide has a quirk where if you use a move that doesn't miss but deals no damage, it'll add the damage done the PREVIOUS turn. So, Gengar did 9 damage with Night Shade the first turn, then used Confuse Ray the second turn. We double the damage from the Night Shade and add that to Bide's power, and then add that again because of the Confuse Ray.
@MH_00154 жыл бұрын
So it's just Gen 1 being Gen 1? Sounds normal to me.

@soap931604 жыл бұрын
Do Clefable. It learns metronome, which helps against Brock in the beginning, levels up incredibly fast and has an amazing movepool of Body Slam, Thunderbolt, Blizzard, Ice Beam, Minimize etc. I did a run of Clefable and ended at about 3:30 (and I'm not experienced at speed runs) so I'm sure that Jrose could do it even quicker, possibly even beating Mewtwo.
@bluestar20594 жыл бұрын
Out of curiosity, as you've done a fair few of these now, do you think you could do some of these runs faster with better planning? Like, is there any of these you look at and think "I could shave a few minutes off that" if you did it a second time?
