Here is a piece of early Bach, probably from his Arnstadt years, i.e. the first decade of the 18th century. It was originally in the key of D minor but the final version was transposed to C minor to take account of the range of the pedalboard. It begins with a pedal solo, which turns into a short fantasia once the hands join in. From the days when Bach fugue subjects were given words as humorous mnemonic, this one is known as 'Uncle Joe has lost his trousers'!
