All I had was a stage 1 apr tune, dog bone insert, and intake and I was very happy with it. More than enough power on the streets, stock clutch held up fine, still got 35mpg highway, and best of all it looked stock. I did want to lower it an inch but traded it in. I do miss that car.

I think if you live in a warm weather state and your car came with all-seasons, then the best upgrade would be a good set of summer tires like a Continental ExtremeContact sport or Michelin Pilot Super sports. Obviously that doesnt apply to you, but i think for a lot of people, thats one of the best upgrades.

I upgraded to 235/40/18 Michelin A/S3+ because in NJ potholes and snow and living space makes it hard to have two sets of wheels. Also on side note width of tire on stock Austin wheels fits and hence gives you way better traction

JB4 keeps factory warranty?
@ColinAndCo.6 жыл бұрын
Awesome video. Just picked up my MK7 GTI the other day and will start looking at some performance mods after I get used to driving a manual and the tint, ceramic coating, mud flaps, etc. are taken care of. I've heard the tires need to be replaced before getting a piggyback (JB4), and that you'll probably need to put aside cash for a new clutch if you mod the car. Truth to that? I'm pretty happy with the performance given the car is severely under rated from the factory. Nothing like my JB4 335, but that was just too much power to use anyways lol
@JSMK76 жыл бұрын
You can easily pull off jb4 map 1 or sometimes map 2 without a clutch. I wouldn't worry too much

jsmk7 One last question broski, not sure if you've already made a video on the topic.. But do you think you could ever have a somewhat detailed vid on your choice of tuner. There are so many out there and they're so popular for turbo'd vehicles. I'd like to know more about the one you use from your perspective. Especially compared to ones form cobb and such. I know a big factor is the warranty but I feel like there's more to it than just that.

jsmk7 I liked your innovative approach. I would add a 26mm rear sway bar instead of the lowering springs. Kinky reason is I am after performance over looks. I love the look of lowering springs but you are taking away travel of your suspension. If they made a 3/4” drop I would buy it.

Thanks for watching. I know many in Cali still run JB4. They try to find it in a nearby state or get someone on the forums to ship over since many companies wont

Sweet bro thanks, so they'd just flash it back and take the JB4 out before getting it worked on right? And bro this vid helped me out so much. Why do I need a short shifter? I have a DSG... the BEST option [complete with paddle shifters] for a mk7/mk7.5 GTI! You get the best of both worlds with DSG. Plus, DSG's make 0-60 faster and provide better gas mileage than manual shift... not that 0-60 matters that much in the grand scheme of things. Otherwise, thanks... great recommendations.
