I love how Tim’s Judas’ characteristics are like “unstable.” He’s dressed like a homeless wearing backpack, his voice cracks, he smokes whenever he gets panic by how Jesus or things going around here work, and in this number, unlike the other actors played Judas like Carl or Jerome who just desperately beg to the priests, Tim’s Judas literally strikes Caiaphas and makes him bleed. I love what those things do to Tim’s Judas’ characteristics. I loved it so much. Anyone 2019 here?

He even outdid Murray Head from the original album which is difficult. Before this I felt no one could outdo the original concept album. I felt that Ben Forster was kind of a lackluster Jesus though.
@skorewolfchild4093 жыл бұрын
I don't feel as though anyone who's played Jesus has managed to use Ian Gillian from the source material as a template and took it up a notch the way Tim Minchin utilized Murray Head's performance as template and ran with it. I feel like Forster did what most theater performers do when the know they're being filmed and took it down a notch so as not to be labeled an overactor, then overcompensated to the effect of a lackluster performance, or at least I hope that's what happened.

I love how in this version, Judas socks Caiaphas right in the face to the point of bleeding and Caiaphas doesn't even bat an eye when he gets back up

it is weird that i like the imperfections in tim's voice and what that brought to judas? i mean his emotional performance was exceptional. and outside of this, his vocal range is actually quite wide
@Bowling_Dude2 жыл бұрын
it actually sounds worse because of horrible autotuning of Tim's voice unfortunately. the cracks and emotion would have came across much better without the unessicary auto tuning.

Ahhh this always makes me cry! Judas has such an amazing voice and the “imperfections” (not really but that’s what some people call it) with his emotions like voice cracks and shortages really help the emotion and his voice is so unique with how it sounds. And omg Judas is my favorite character I cried so much when he died in the live version. Tim Minchin is a very great singer and everything it’s amazing!

I learned about Jesus Christ Superstar (this version in particular) in 8th Grade, and the moment I heard this song, my heart broke. Judas had been my favorite character throughout the entire musical. When Judas actually killed himself, I broke into tears. In the middle of class. Yes. I cried. So hard. After the musical was over, my lovely teacher had to make sure I was ok because I cried so hard TWICE!!! First when Judas died, then when Judas came back (those were happy tears)

@thomasgray26011 жыл бұрын
Because when Tim was cry/singing he was singing nearly a tone flat, they needed to have it F# but if he sung it too flat it wouldn't sound good at all. At least this follows general musical convention.

+gasmmusic he can hit most of the notes pretty well, the only song he struggled with really it this song. And that's understandable, I mean listen to it. He has to put a lot of emotion into the performance as well as singing it.
@Orion31014 жыл бұрын
I think if they had left his voice as it was for this song it would’ve been fine... it was a highly emotional performance where his character was sobbing the entire time... off-key screaming and sobbing would’ve improved this tenfold 😂
@nintendonut10011 жыл бұрын
it's like they used the auto-tune to change his phrasing and tone... Minchin could definitely sing this, I've heard him singing live and he's got the range for it (though I've only found a version of heaven on their minds of him without auto-tune). anyone know where I could find some bootlegs of this tour? cause I really wanna hear this as he actually sung it.

How did they pull off the hanging? It looked so real
@jaimeg15515 жыл бұрын
Ok, so I've watched it over and over again and this is what I think. If you notice when the one guy pulls his head back by his hair, Tim keeps the one side of his coat closed. As he is climbing the stairs, you can see the hook pushing through his coat. When he gets to the tree, he pulls what is probably a wire connected to that hook, which is connected to the harness you see him wearing in Superstar. I think when he ties the scarf to the tree, he hooks the wire onto tree. Then the extra tying is just for show.

I think it because they didn't want to risk any accident happening on live television or make things too "scary" or inappropriate There was one production (maybe more, but I only know the one) where Judas' actor actually accidentally hung himself because the stunt went wrong

Tim Minchin has the most limited vocal range of any Judas and is by far the weakest member of the class in terms of vocal ability. That being said I enjoyed him more than any other Judas, and he stole the show. Why? Cause the dude knows his character better than anyone else. His emotional performance is so much more important than his vocal performance. Great stuff.
@Donde_Lieta9 жыл бұрын
I agree. I like him as Judas, what he lacks in vocals he makes up for in his acting, creating a very different experience to the character which isn't always portrayed.
