I talk to a petty officer Monday about possible enlistment. I'm not worried about bootcamp. I come from an army infantry family so I know they look at me to be an example especially since my pop retired a 1StSgt. On top of that he was a DS for 3 years before that. I know each BCT is different than other branches. Any advice about talking to the requirement officer? I really want to be a seabee already took the asvab with another branch and my line scores whatever those are were through the roof. BTW when you and the Corps man get together funny shit. You're little one reminds me of one of my little cousins cute kid. Later man

To anyone going to Great Lakes, good luck you won’t regret your decision when you get to march across the drill deck in front of your parents, it’s a one time experience that you’ll never forget. My advice is to listen to your rdcs and what they have to say, take all the yelling with a grain of salt WORK TOGETHER and when you go to the nex it is imperative that you buy at least 4 bags of cough drops and foot spray and foot powder or you will get a case of athletes foot. Bootcamp is easy just keep your head up and move through it.

I transferred from Army to Navy but my advice to any new recruits to be ready on time and to not get dropped is: 1 hour before wake up allow half of the division to shave, brush their teeth, and put on your uniform bottoms. Put your PT sweat pants on top and when u wake up, just throw on your blouse, boots, and help others make their bed. The other half should have once the lights go out. Sleep on top of the covers and use the blanket only (this helps you save time tucking corners and helping others make their racks while getting ready. That's how you keep from getting dropped.

Holy shit getting dropped just means doing push ups? Getting dropped in Coast Guards boot camp meant going back a week. We weren't allowed to be up even 5 minutes before lights on either (people did anyway). And we had muster in the morning before getting dressed so that shit would never work.

Man, bootcamp while definitely not the easiest thing I have ever done. It definitely wasn't terribly difficult either. It will feel like a really strict summer camp if you can follow simple instructions. Hell even if you pulled the irresponsible thing that I did, and rolled of the couch Cheetos and all and onto the bus to basic barely making tape and having not studied rank and recog, you will do fine. If you follow instructions well you will be set. 90% of basic is just listening and repeating/executing directions given out by the RDCs. Bootcamp is the easiest money you will ever make. The biggest mistake I always saw people make was trying to take shortcuts, or straight up questioning why you are doing something. No matter how dumb, trivial, demeaning, you find what you are doing. Do it any way, without question. It might also sound dumb, but like JT was saying most of basic is boredom, unless you are in or gunning for a position of authority within your division. Don't get a watch, I waited until I was halfway through basic before I bought mine, and when I did the days got ALOT longer because I started watching the clock constantly. But that is just my personal opinion.

I graduated a week ago and yes it is very difficult yet very simple material and following basic instructions. If you do what you are told, when you are told, correctly the first time, you will succeed. Everyone has different challenges to overcome but your shipmates will help you, and it creates the vital element of teamwork which will be used throughout your Navy career. Just listen to your rdcs and you will do good. The environment is meant to physically and mentally break you, so that the rdcs are able to build you back up stronger. Just keep pushing on, it's worth it

Navy boot camp seems like it is a dream, compared to when I was in, I know older sailors say that a lot but, it is true. The facilities are nicer and the training modules fit the times. But, try peeling 50 lb bags of onions, 8 hrs a day (service week), with a butter knife, because recruits are not allowed to have anything sharp.....We didn't have back packs, we stowed our notebooks in our shirts, we didn't have hydration breaks. We carried 8 lb rifles and jogged or ran everywhere we went and squared everything. We had basic toiletries and no time pieces. We wore the dungarees / watch cap or white covers. The company commander during our last week lined everyone up for a run and told us we were going to McDonald's, all the way on the other side of the base, we ran 3 miles and then, we ran right through the drive through at Mickey D's and he made us wave at the employee, while we ran by, the whole Co., one straight line and ran back to the barracks. He was sadistic and an asshole, to the very last minute that we got on the bus to leave San Diego, someone did not move their foot out of the aisle, out of his way and he threatened to hold the whole company back. Just some of the things that standout. Hurricaning the barracks, your racks thrown out the door from 3 floors up and all your gear on the deck outside. I remember standing in the courtyard double arm interval for 45 minutes, even before the beatings / mashing began, forming room mashing (with utility jacket on) until the walls sweat. Maybe they do the same thing now... IDK.

You have guys who grew up and never knew how to properly fold clothes or some even shave." That type of stuff blew my mind when I thought about it. 2 weeks till graduation, at this point we didn't have much left to do and Battle stations was over and the RDCs had nothing for us.... untilllll someone right outside the shark tank decided to look at the POD and say, "another boring day".... our 3rd RDC over heard and said in a THICK FILIPINO ACCENT "OH YOURE FN BORED?! LETS FIX THAT!"... 4 HOURS of making racks and getting inspected, and the ones who passed after the 20th inspection would get beat until EVERYONE passed our 3rd RDCs impossible time limit... then when everyone passed rack inspection, WE STARTED ALL OVER AGAIN... good times.

Damn, I've had 1 Wisdom tooth removed, and that was only because it had cracked in half 2 years prior. I didn't realize it was cracked in half, and didn't have medical, so just left it cause it wasn't hurting. When it was removed, they shot me with novacain and I couldn't feel anything, the worst part was the crunching. The sounds of the crunching still makes me quiver.

The dental in Bootcamp for me was fantastic , very friendly people and well trained. I did not have any surgery but they were really cool and gave you a chance to breath and not feel like you would be attacked. I was jelly of the people who had wisdom teeth removed. They got percys , ya know that good good. Imagine being able to get all drugged up while in boot ? Have some funny stories of people being fucked up on percys and being stupid and escorting people from medical with blood pouring out their mouth being scared as shit that a RDC was going to correct me or harass me while marching around with this dude around my shoulder all drugged out bleeding and shit. Good times. Bootcamp is all fun man. Try and enjoy it. If I could go back I would have fucked with the RDCs more. If you know you can take a beating, have fucking fun man. Just don't quit shit is ez. Once you start getting used to getting your ass beat, like really beat. Start trying to have fun.

Boot Camp is all a game, guys. The faster everyone unlocks the “teamwork” skill, the sooner your Petty Officers and/or Chief will stop yelling as much and will see you as an adult. Also handle your shit in house. When we learned that our Chief starting teaching us like an older brother.

For all of those going to BTC Great Lakes, Ill. Basic is going to be the hardest experience in your military career, A school is more relaxed than Basic and depending on your Command, the Fleet is much more relaxed than A school, just do what you're told and remember if you're on time you're late...10 mins prior to everything

When I went through boot camp they took out my wisdom teeth and like now they gave two to three days rest, which I was grateful for and was enough time for me to heal, I thought the quality of the dentists was about the same as usual far as conventional dentistry goes (Tooth and Gum Formula from American Botanical is good). However it's good to hear the yeoman saying that there's a sense of family in the navy because in the 90's, not as much...

Getting Better oh ok nice, thats a great rate indeed lucky him. I ship out January 1st 2020 as a GSM, im excited but i hear GSM is a tough rate and ridiculously busy which i dont mind but the opportunity to work on gas turbines is one ill definitely take advantage of and it translates well in the civilian sector quite well.

Ayo papa JT, I got my wisdom teeth taken out at RTC a few months ago.It was DOPE. They drug u up and you normally are siq 2 days and LLD one day. You get some type of strong ass medication for the first 3 days, then like 1000 mg ibuprofen afterwards. Being SIQ was awesome. I slept all day. Only thing that sucked after the three days was eating with the stitches. Once the stitches dissolve, it’s easy day.

I got my wisdoms pulled in boot. It wasn't too bad. Got to sleep for a couple days. It was super hard to eat for a couple weeks though which was frustrating. Getting beat would make them bleed occasionally too.
