Without your videos I would not have known to do a nozzle check. It showed I had a bad print head on a new Pro 300 (after 7 cleanings... no patch grid in Y or CO). For prospective buyers, your Pro 1000 setup video is helpful for the Pro 300 setup. Grateful for the learning curve you provide.

Isn't the difference in the separation in the blues and greens due to the paper type...? Because I think both printers are supposed to have the very same inks, right?

Great video Jose. I'm sure it will help a lot of people. Couple of notes since I just set up my Pro-1000 a week or so ago: 1. I used the same test page and see the same problem with the greens. Every thing else is close to perfect. 2. I'm looking forward to seeing how your custom profiling goes. I am not having a lot of success with that. I printed the targets using Print Studio Pro and using the recommendation in LuLa of selecting "Color Management Off", evidently recommended to them by Canon. My results were unsatisfactory so I went back and turned off the Color Calibration adjustment in the driver. I haven't scanned those targets yet. I wonder if the Chroma Optimizer is on and causing difficulties? 3. Also can't wait to see your data on how much ink was used from each cartridge during installation. My printer says mine are less than half full now--wow. Thanks again. Keep up the good work. Mabe

The two greens are apparently supposed to print nearly identical even though the may appear differently on the monitor screen. I will make some profiles soon and will also test some Canon and Hannemuhle papers on it. Right I am shopping for extra carts. The LCD says full but the ink monitor in the driver says about 1/3 from empty. Did you read the chart I included after my fair well? It shows all the weights before and after.

Hey Jose, thank you for your wonderful videos on the pro-1000. I have some questions hoping you may help me out with as I am relatively new with this printer. I am testing many different papers to see what works best for my B&W image. However, what I am confused about is, what kind of paper do I mark it as from the printer's end? I know this is needed because I assume I have to color calibrate each different paper before I use it right (so I can achieve the best results)? Also, I would need to know this for when I print so there is no communication issue because I can select the paper type from Photoshop, especially since I have the ICC profile, but on the actual printer, I do not see anything indicating which paper type to select for the color calibration and printing. It seems that they cover all of the canon papers, but anything else, it looks super generic. For example, one type of paper I am going to test is the Hahnemühle Matte FineArt Textured German Etching 13"x19". Thank you for your time and help, Jose.

Jose reference the two greens printed on your Pro-1000. Using my Pro 1000 I did three test prints (same test image) on Canon semi-gloss paper using my Color Munki created profile, Canon's ICC profile and one print letting the printer control color. The Color Munki and Canon prints both have two distinctly different shades of green. The Color Munki print is probably a little sharper overall, but other than that almost the same. Letting the printer control color the two greens in question are almost identical in color. Comparing prints to my profiled (Eizo) monitor everything is a good match except the two greens which are noticeably lighter. Hope this helps and thanks for the excellent videos.

I will have to create some profiles for the PRO-10 and Pro -1000 and check. I will be showing some prints from one of my images both in color and B&W done on the PRO-1 and PRO-1000 on Pro Luster and OEM INKS and profiles. No difference that I can see with my tired eyes.

Hello Jose, Thanks for all your outstanding expertise! You are teaching us all so much! I performed the internal calibration on my Canon yesterday per your Pro-1000 video. Strangely, this was not a part of the initial set-up procedure for my Pro-4000. They completely skipped over this step. (only a nozzle check & head alignment.. then it said ready to print) so I was happy to learn about the calibration step. This may solve the slight over saturation problem I have been battling. Now that I have calibrated, I am trying to print my standard image (w/ babies, strawberries. etc) by letting my printer manage color as suggested to see how my printer handles color w/ out any other profile or influence, however, I am unsure what setting to set my color settings to under matching. The options are: Driver matching - ICC Profile Matching - ICM and OFF. Initially, I selected Off and let the printer manage colors (perceptual rendering intent) and printed. The standard image was way off. kinda magenta/brown. I experimented with all the other matching settings as well and the standard image looks the same each time. What am I missing here? Thank you!
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 жыл бұрын
That is something that is NOT required to do initially. That is why it is not included in the steps. What that internal calibration does is to bring or tweak you printer so it matches the output of another across town or the country. It brings a printer to a STANDARD of perfection without any deviations between other printers of the same models using the same inks and paper.

We`re taking delivery of a PRO 1000 in two months so I'm doing some homework and taking notes. At the end of your "Complete Setup Video" you gave the various weights of full/empty carts, however the promo video link for your next video obscured the weight for Ink Carts 100% empty. The other weights showed OK. Can you tell me that weight in a comment here? Fabulous lesson videos here Jose. Hi Guys. I bought this printer and I’m quite satisfied with the prints. I am however a bit puzzled over the ink cartridges that came with the printer. When I had installed the printer at after it did it’s feeding proces, I was only left with 40 ml of ink on each tank. Did it really take half of each cartridge in order to fill the tubes and the print head?

What printer??? The remaining ink is inside the printer. It takes about 50% or more of the total initial inks to prime a stationary cart printer.

Hey Jose Have a question hope this isn’t too much of a beginners question but I am a beginner and I’m not sure. Towards the end of your video you perform a color calibration on the printer with a pacific type of paper. My question is do u have to perform a color calibration every time you switch Between different kinds of papers like glossy,mat, luster, so forth and so on. Thanks
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 жыл бұрын
You can perform this operation on all your papers on none! What this internal calibration does to bring your particular printer to near perfect specs. So if you do it for Pro Luster on your a d I also do it to mine for the same paper then as long as we are both printing with Pro Luster and oem inks, both of our outputs will matches perfectly. Without the calibration, they would not. Output would not be identical. So do you HAVE to perform this? Might as well and that way you know it is outputting perfectly on every paper you print on and calibrate the printer to.
@Weeeee75
@Weeeee75 6 жыл бұрын
Ok so that I understand u correctly I should perform color calibration on every type of paper I attend on printing on regardless of what company the it’s from. For example if the paper is Canon Lester or red river Lester I should do a color calibration for both of them.
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 жыл бұрын
Well Officially it is only for CANON Papers. But there is a way to include others but you have to basically apply it to an existing CANON Paper listed in the Paper choice Options. Remember that this is only so "Your PRO-1000 Matches Mine" BUT..... you will be able to print using just the driver for those CANON papers you perform this calibration and will not really see huge improvements even when Printing with ICC profiles for those papers.

Hi Jose, when I check Cancel Margin Regulation in the Pro 1000 Printer Preferences - it always come up with a warning statement that if I proceed I may have paper abrasion problems....any way around this?
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 6 жыл бұрын
Sure that is the warning you will get and the reason why they normally want you to accept the wide leading and trailing edge borders. Fine art papers are normally thick and by avoiding printing on the front and read edges it will reduce or eliminate the possibility of head strikes. So do you want it to stop telling you that? You can not stop that. BUT... once I set it and click APPLY I remembers that setting. At least on Windows 10.

The only question i have yet to figure out about my 1000 is the relationship between the print settings on the printers lcd screen, and the print settings set on the computer. For example: if i set to print a 17x22 on the computer in Canon Print Pro Studio, but the printer lcd settings are set to another print size. Also, I am wondering what the best option is to print 17x25.5 which the latest firmware allows for.

If you want to use your driver for that you can disable Print Mismatch on the LCD. Otherwise if your LCD settings do not match what you chose on the driver you will get a mismatch error. It is a PIA! So Disable that and Paper width detection.

Ran a few test prints. The first one was the same as yours. I had it set up for driver matching at first. The print came out dull with the colors off. I had previously done the internal calibration for Pro Luster paper. which I used as my first test print. I then switched to NONE on color matching and used Lightroom to do it again. It came out perfect to my calibrated monitor. BTW....can I do the color calibration for more than one paper and does the printer remember it? Can I check to see which paper was calibrated? Then, I did a test of a print that I could never get the colors right with my pro-100. The Pro-1000 printed it right on the money first shot. Exactly like the monitor with perfect colors and skin tone! BTW,...I notice that the prints look like there is more pop with dye ink over pigment???

Thanks for the video. When I looked at the CANON IPF PRO 1000 and found out installing the print head was required, that made me a bit nervous. However, after watching the video I think it is doable. Now I have to decide between this printer and the Epson P800. I’m still going to keep my Pro 10, but I want something that will print a bit larger. Preferably, I would like a larger printer that has third party ink options, such as precision colors. It looks like the P800 no longer has that option according to the precision colors website. It also looks like the CANON IPF PRO 1000 doesn’t have that option yet, and I don’t know if precision colors will add that option in the future. But just going off factory inks the P800 seems to be cheaper to refill, but due to my experience with Canon and being highly impressed with my Pro 10, I am a bit partial to the CANON IPF PRO 1000. As far as print quality I am not expecting much, if any, differences between the two. Thanks again Jose. Your KZbin channel has been like an online printing university for me, and considering printing is probably one of the least talked about topics in photography…like I said this channel has been tremendously helpful.
@cheo1949

ALL canon printers require the Manual Print Head installation. It is a piece of cake to do. Insert and lock, close the lid! Done. Ah but there is an option for the P800. PC has great inks and there is A decoder board though it is not cheap.. PC will have inks and chips for the PRO-1000 in a short time. Either printer will produce TOP quality prints with OEM inks. Results will vary with third party inks.
@Rivij
@Rivij 7 жыл бұрын
Jose Rodriguez Jose again for the reply, this is great to know, that PC will have an ink set for the Pro 1000, that might make a big difference when making a decision between the Pro 1000 and the P800. If you had to make a choice between the Pro 1000 or P800, what would you chose and why? Possibly worth a video? Thanks again.
@cheo1949

Both Printers will produce outstanding results. If there are any difference between the two it is so minimal as to be insignificant. If you do not need roll printing or panoramas, then the PRO 1000 is your if you do need roll and panos then the P800 is the one! Of course we are talking about using OEM products!

Hello Jose, thank you for your videos and expertise, very helpful! We've had a Pro-1000 for a couple of years now and been very happy with print quality. Unfortunately all of a sudden a few weeks ago when switching it on, it gave the error 'Print head not installed' and no troubleshooting we could find / think of solved it, so it's not been working since. Canon are saying it probably needs a new print head which is not very economical since a new print head plus new inks is more money than a brand new one... We've asked around but nobody knows of a more cost-effective solution, we found your brilliant channel here on youtube and thought we could ask if you or any of your followers ever came across this problem?
@cheo1949

All I can tell you is the initial batch for 1000s seem to have some problems. Precisioncolors set on up and it lasted about 6 months and basically stopped working due to head errors. Luckily Canon replaced. So far so good. The head on my PRO1 did not last long either. Did you get a B200 error?
@lightandimagination7720
@lightandimagination7720 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply - we get error code '140B Print head is not installed. Install the print head'. I've spoken to Canon several times and all they offered for free (as it was over 2 years since I'd bought it so out of warranty) was a call from their technician which wasn't helpful (all he said was take the print head out and give it a wipe with a damp cloth, then put it back in, switch it off and back on again - which did nothing). It's a shame as the quality of prints was good. We were hopeful that a print head clean kit or something was available to try or some other fix as buying a new print head is not cost effective by the time new inks are needed etc, it will exceed the cost of a new one.

Color Calibration can only be done on certain size papers..... NOT on 8x10???
@cheo1949
@cheo1949 7 жыл бұрын
Correct. But size in this case has nothing to do with that. It's the type of paper instead. Just like with ICC profiles. They as not size specific but paper type specific.

Yes, I did a cal with the paper they gave, pro luster 8 1/2" x 11. then I wanted to do with an 8x10 semi gloss type.I couldn't because of the size paper. that was my point.

You have to use 8.5 x 11 semigloss.

so many factors effect the printers colors calibration, the environment ambient is great factor, how the printer would know it to achieve true colors ? its good technology the self calibrating , but i cant entirely relay on it , i think its better to do it externally using colorMunki photo .. my own opinion , i dont know if its true or not ...

Remember this " Calibration" is merely bring the printer to a standard for a given paper and OEM Ink batch. So it takes care of slight differences that may exist between physical examples of a printer model, paper batches and ink batches. It is NOT a printer profile you would make with a colormunki photo for instance. A canon photo printer is actually using the canon paper profile even when simply telling it to control color rather than Photoshop or Lightroom for instance. So calibrations would allow say 10 Pro1000s to produce identical results with that particular paper and each batch of ink in each printer even when they might differ slightly.

Jose .. I received the Marrutt inks set, I replaced the VLM card, and printed a test page, and WOW .. I dont even need to create a new ICM profile, it worked same as the OEM.. Exactly same..but i will keep my eyes on them until i replace the last card, then I will do a new profiles.

WARNING - PRECISION COLORS CHIPS DON’ WORK! This is an old video, back when Precision Colors chips worked for Canon P-1000. I got the reusable chips about a year or two ago and they only worked once. I am out a bunch of money. I just don’t want anyone else to get cheated.

We all know this now. I am in the same boat and I've been telling everyone over and over about this.

And besides you really need to rephrase this. They are not Precisioncolor chips. They are Chinese Chips sold by many other sellers before anyone even knew that they would not auto reset. We got one use out of them so that would equal $12 worth which is what actual single-use chips cost. We lost $12 per chip.

Thank you Chaz! On my monitor they do appear different but then again I never said I had the best display. If that is the case then the PRO-1000 nailed it!!!!

Think you might have misunderstood me, I am talking about your prints where the pro 1000 is showing different greens and the pro 1 BUT I see a difference with the charts the bottom you have solid black and white mine is different so with out having the same file I can not be sure now. I would need the same chart to know for sure.

I am using the same identical chart or standard image as you showed in your example. When I check the left green box in PS Info I show a lot of red ( R-127-G-255-B-0 ) and on the right box it is pure green ( R-0-G-255-B-0 . On my Sample Prints from the PRO-1 and PRO-1000 the blacks samples are nearly identical. Maybe not on video.
