@@DocMicrowave Would’ve loved to have seen that. That’s actually what I expected to have happen. The first time I saw this (like 8 years ago) I knew Scotty was up to something in the “up your shaft” scene, and, well, this is Star Trek, so of course they’re gonna get away. But, I expected Excelsior to at least briefly achieve Warp before losing power. I did like this re creation where the nacelles at least lit up like they were about to go. Wish ILM had added that into the special effects of the film, but it’s still a classic scene.

Just think, this channel recreated this for fun but oooooh no, a big studio can't make new HD renders of CG ships. I still have the standard definition of TMP directors cut because paramount doesnt have the capital to spend on re-rendering those scenes. This is why films still shot on 35mm is one of the best ways to enjoy 4k transfers. Most of the effects were shot on film like TNG, and all the models Lucasfilm made pre CG hold up great in HD. Seeing the beauty passes of the Enterprise D for the first time in HD was breathtaking. And your blender renders here really show the textures of the haul plating. Especially when light reflects off it. Great work!
@ThatGuyBrian3 жыл бұрын
TNG Remastered's model shots were all redone with CG, though.
@spinnerkeys3 жыл бұрын
@@ThatGuyBrian The TNG model shots were not redone for the remaster. They were the original shots filmed for the series using models. The effects such as phasers, transporters etc. Which were added in post at video tape quality (to make the shows SFX economically viable), were all redone as CGI, yes, and faithfully of course. But the ship shots were not recreated using CGI as they were originally captured on film, and could be simply rescanned at 1080p like the regular shots. With one exception... there was one particular flyby shot they couldn’t find the reel for, so that was recreated, but you only see it a few times across the entire series.

You did an amazing job with this and I admit that one advantage of doing it all in CGI is that everything is able to blend together in a more seamless way, with regard to lighting, shadows, and scale. Spacedock looks more appropriately gigantic here compared to Enterprise. Also the image of Luna used behind Spacedock does look better in this version. Also massive props for the two added viewscreen shots, a great callback to the original TV show in which that framing technique was used more often. In particular the viewscreen shot on the Excelsior is appreciated because we never saw it in the film! It also adds an increased sense of "holy crap they actually went and did it" on the part of Captain Styles' expression and reaction. Bloody fantastic work.

I think the Harbormaster opened them at the last second to prevent the Enterprise from crashing and blowing up half the station. He knew Kirk wasn't going to stop. 4. Can you do more like this? I can't get enough of these Star Trek re-masters. Perhaps something from Wrath of Khan?
@Fushichou1978 Жыл бұрын
Regarding #3, when we see the charges read at the court-martial in Star Trek IV. . .notably there are no charges related to unauthorized access to Spacedock systems or anything related. All the charges except the one count of disobeying an order against Kirk were dropped because of the Whale crisis. . .but the actual charges they were arraigned on didn't mention anything about hacking the spacedock doors/security system in the theft of the Enterprise. So yeah, that supports the idea that someone inside Spacedock opened the doors for him rather than let Enterprise collide with the doors.

@willfe3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that'd be pretty cool to see. TWOK's special effects were seriously impressive at the time, especially given the budget constraints they had (compared to ST:TMP before it). Their limited budget was the reason both ships ended up with no shields when they exchanged fire. They couldn't afford the special effects to show weapons fire hitting the shields, so the script was revised to show Kirk being complacent at first and Khan being clueless and over-confident, leading to a no-shields showdown. Then conveniently the nebula where the final battle was set interfered with both ships enough that their shields couldn't work. Sneaky, but still pretty clever. It paid off in the end since they could spend their effects budget on that spectacular final battle. You just know they had a blast destroying those models for the effects shots. At any rate, it'd be incredible to see this artist's interpretation of the two big battles in TWOK. I have no doubt he'd knock it out of the park.

I need a Director's Cut with this level of CG footage throughout the movie!

Love seeing enterprise go to warp and seeing it on excelsior, and her engines lighting up and going out great video.

I loved the insert of the shot of the Enterprise disappearing into warp. A blink-and-you-miss-it shot, but a beautiful addition seamlessly integrated. I wish it was in the movie!

I've been watching that scene almost my entire life and I love it every single time.
