I already saw this video on another channel. I'm still amazed that Ferrari let him test, it really goes to show how much they respect JPM! He was probably one of their biggest rival drivers in those early 2000's, its like Mercedes allowing Vettel to test the W16.

There's no easy does it with Montoya. I remember him from the Champ Car series where he dominated. He was driving that Ferrari like he was qualifying. Go hard or go home.

I just finished rewatching the 1999 CART season, such an amazing talent. If he and Schumacher were in EQUAL cars and no team orders, there is no doubt in my mind that he would have wiped the track with Schumi.

@KochamLoczka I remember him saying that. His BMW Williams had the speed but sadly lacked the reliability the Ferrari had. When he got to McLaren the team didn't treat him right either. Montoya had the skill and mentality but not the car or team he deserved.

Yes he was fast but also very temperamental and inconsistent. He could mix it at the front and then just spin all on his own in the midfield. I think he knew long term F1 was not for him

You know what? This video is so painful because Montoya should really have never signed to McLaren where Raikkonen was the favourite, and should've remained patient at Williams for Schumacher's seat to open up, or at least went on a sabbatical to Indy until it opened up. He could've driven this car in-period and won a title with it!
