I love vintage yarn! I found my mom's yarn basket several years ago, and it was full of old Red Heart and Paton yarn. There was also a box of mini-granny squares that my mom had made. I have no idea what she'd planned to make with them, but I'm incorporating them into items for myself and my brother and sister, so we'll each have some of her work. ❤

Columbia-Minerva is the yarn I learned to crochet. CM was discontinued sometime in the 1960s. This was so much fun seeing the older labels I started my yarn journey. Orlon acrylic was found by DuPont in the 1940s.

You got a great deal! I will be 70 next week and I remember my mom knitting with those vintage yarns when I was a kid, so they’re probably from the 50’s and 60’s. I remember seeing Wintuck on the labels. Also that “hairy” yarn looks like Lion Brand Homespun. It was popular about 15 or 20 years ago. Have fun with all your yarn!

You could take those vintage yarns and make a shadow box of them. Then you can enjoy them without trying to use them in a project. My great grandmother owned a sewing shop back when my 75 yo momma was a very young girl. I have a lot of her vintage sewing and knitting/crocheting items and I’m going to shadow box them to preserve that little bit of family history. LOVE LOVE LOVE your channel.

New here from Bag-o-Day and I too love Premier Puzzle!! Because I am a yarn hoarder, I have many vintage yarns! Most from early 80’s None of the yarns had a number weight then, they went by ply’s. Google the companies. The craft cord can be used for baskets , purses, bags and plant hangers. The furry yarn is good for trim but a pain to make something completely out of it. The unlabeled “crinkly yarn looks like Homespun. I’ve used Homespun to make a shawl. Very Pretty and soft! 24/7 cotton is still available and it is not that old. Can’t wait to watch your other vids!

Those specialty yarns are hard to crochet with. They make awesome projects. But if you make a mistake they are almost impossible to take out. Here is a plus though, it's also impossible to see where you've had to cut and splice. But it's a slow hook and splits when your hooking. Best to use a bigger hook that way you know where to put it in the next row.

What a treasure box of yarn! Took me back to watching my Mama & Grandma crochet with the Red Heart Baby yarn. Yeah, I’ge been here since 1964, & learned to crochet in 1983, so I’ve seen a lot of good, bad, & downright weird yarn! Looking forward to seeing what you create with some of those 😉

Evita is considered a ladder yarn. It's great to combine with a pima cotton to make a fancy scarf, hold both together to crochet. Use a large hook, creates lace look. I used an L hook. Nice vintage yarn haul. 👍

I learned to knit using the baby fingering yarn in 1972 making baby sweaters for my son with small thin needles, I think size #2 or#3...took me forever to finish 1 sweater. The cord may have been for macrame. Hi Juan and Wilma from Yvonne Dixon winner of your scarf

Just an idea: take all the vintage yarn labels and make a collage for a picture/poster for your wall. (Could spell out words with yarn.) Great find for a box of vintage yarn!!🧶 The 6mm is Macrame cord. I have been doing macrame since the 70's. You can use the macrame cord as a filler and crochet over it to crochet a basket.🤗

It's so enjoyable to see these old threads from my childhood. Red heart came out in 1936 and as the years went by they got better and better with durability, washability, colors and feel. I still have remnants from projects. That cording is for crocheting a motif or rectangle for a floor mat or rug. The skien of yarn that you are calling skien of yarn that looks nice is lion brand homespun it's my favorite for scarves and squishy beanies.

This is what I was able to find out about the Spool Cotton Company, you can also find their archived patterns if your curious.... The Spool Cotton Co. produced thread and yarn in the late 1800's to the early 1900's. It eventually merged with Coats and Clarks. They published popular crochet and knitting patterns in the 30's to the 50's that were priced at 10 cents. Spinnerin Nylaine Yarns were in business from the 1950's to the end of the 1970's early 80's. They did not only yarn but patterns and then towards the end of the companies life cycle they produced rug hook kits.

Hello Juan, nice yarn haul for a nice price. i remember some of that yarn. i may have one or two of the baby yarns. sometimes you win, sometimes you don't with used yarn. i got some that smelled like it was in a musty basement (that was local) I put it in a tote for a month with fabric softener sheets and now it smells nice. . i got some real nice yarn. and i also got some that i needed because it was sold out everywhere and ebay was my only source. i hear mercari is also a good place to get used yarn.

Nice vintage yarns! I haven't had any trouble doing center pull on any skein of yarn. They tuck the end of the outside yarn into one end of the skein. The center pull will be the opposite end. You may have to dig around to find it, and there may be some barf at the beginning, but you'll still be able to center pull.
