All these comments criticizing Halford and/or Owens are ridiculous. Owens did an incredible job carrying the torch when Halford was gone, and Halford is forever a legend. Both are amazing vocalists even today. Quit your whining about what could have been and just embrace the awesomeness of Judas Priest. That includes the Ripper-era albums (which I would love to hear Halford sing live).

I first met Judas Priest in Owens' voice, and I always thought it was the original vocal. I started listening to Halford when in his solo career, which I really like. Then eventually, and as expected, I discovered who the original vocal of the band was. I did not stop liking any because of it, it would be bullshit and childish. Both are fucking vocal gods.

I seen Priest in 82 and 84. Needless to say...I didn't see this tour. I would still of went to see them. Only a true Priest fan would stick by them regardless of the b.s. public opinion. I been a fan since 77....and always will be.

Yes, and in the other direction, you can't help but notice that 'Painkiller' is in a lower register than what Rob sings it. Both have their strengths and their weaknesses to each other. Ripper's main obstacle was replacing Rob. On his own, he is one of the best metal singers out there. It just got overshadowed with the stigma of being Halford's replacement.

I'll say this. I've seen both Halford and Ripper fronting Priest, and I've also seen Ronnie James Dio. The thing about Ripper is he NEVER dries out. I saw Ripper in his own club in Akron, OH (man, what a show...place only holds like 200 people) doing a Dio tribute thing with an all-star line-up (think it was Craig Goldy on guitar, Rudy Sarzo on bass and Simon Wright on drums), and he was flawless. I've NEVER heard a singer live that could sustain like he does. Halford will always be the Metal God, but I've never heard anyone do what Ripper does...

I was at this show back on December 19th 2001, I still remember queuing up from about 12 in the afternoon outside Brixton Academy. It was the greatest heavy metal show I have ever seen in my life and Priest are still my favourite band. No words for how incredible Ripper was and I really loved him in Priest. I don't care what haters think of Ripper, I'd still support Priest with him even if Halford never returned.

Guys , aside the Ripper-Halford contest (Ripper for me) , what he did with his voice on the end of Victim Of Changes is truly amazing ! I really haven't seen any other singer doing anything like that !! Astonishing !!!

Have been a Priest fan since 1979. The Stained Class, Killing Machine and British Steel songs are part of my DNA. The Turbo album also has a special place in my life. Thanks for this upload. First live show with Ripper for me. I like !!!!

While Ripper was certainly no Halford, I do have to give him credit for being exactly what the band needed to stay afloat. Without a fill in, the band might not have survived the sans-Rob years.

Great version of Painkiller! Better than the original record IMHO. Ripper sounded like he wasn't even breaking a sweat on one of the most difficult metal songs to sing ever, period. I prefer the Ripper years over Priest since Rob's return. Rob came back, but his voice was shot by then. Rob's stuff with Halford was far better than Rob's return to Priest. Now having said that, I prefer Rob as he was in the 80's over Ripper in the late 90's. In his prime Rob was the one TRUE metal god!

I do love Rob Halford. I think he is the personification of Metal more than anybody else: rebel, free and himself, romantic... He didn't follow stereotypes - he set them. But Judas Priest owes a huge amount of gratitude to Ripper Owens. He is a terrific singer, gave a soul to each and every Priest song his own way, and he gave those riffs a voice they hadn't had since the 80s. This Priest was different, Rob's dystopic, romantic futuristic lyrics were missing, but they made kick ass music and speaker-blowing gigs. There would be no Priest without Tim Ripper Owens. If Rob is the Metal God, Ripper was his worthy Prophet forever to be in the pantheon.

i don't think people realize its okay to enjoy ALL eras of Priest. I think the live performances with Ripper are fantastic, but im not huge on the 2 studio albums with him at the mic. Cathedral Spires is a classic though. That being said, in the last 10 years Halford has found the fountain of youth vocally and the Firepower album and tour were amazing

He's a good singer, but he doesn't know what to do on stage, he goofs way 2 much (maybe tries 2 much) when singing. That "VICTIM OF CHANGES" scream was so bad and artificial. Listen to Rob live when he was young, at the same age as Ripper is here.
