This is the best live version in my opinion. I think Scott's drumming is superb. Of course this version was made for a AXS-TV special so I think there was possibly some in-studio 'sweetening' after the fact--it wouldn't surprise me to learn they fixed solos, vocals, and the mix in general. But it's still excellent...

I agree. Every British Steel track has gotten better and heavier over the years. Compare this version to the one from Live Vengeance 82. It can't hold up to this. Every aspect of the song has gotten better since then. Especially Rob's vocals. I think he makes his old self sound a little lazy. If anything, I would expect him to sound like he does here in 82!

Priest is one of those rare bands whose live sound is very faithful to their recordings, and yet adds a dynamic that expands upon the music in a very powerful way. This song, in its many iterations, is a perfect example of that. Listen to the original recording, and the various live versions, and the constant is a crisp yet very heavy sound. The slower tempo on this version also adds a lot of muscle to the song.

I realize this might sound sacrilegious but I have heard every known demo by Priest from 1980 - 1992 and never once did Rob EVER sing that bridge section with high notes. That trend did not start in this song until Tim Owens joined the band after Rob departed. Listen to that 98 Live Meltdown version and you will hear he was the first to do it and, if anything, Rob was imitating him here. Still fucking awesome though! \m/
