I liked the grittyness of meg 1 in dredd though
@davidlewis53122 жыл бұрын
true, but I think that kind of stylization that we saw in the 95 film tends to push what would otherwise be a gritty film into a campy film as we saw with the 95 one. Its not that it should be campy but the medium of cinema, pushes that kind of stylization into the world of camp. The uniform is another example of that. Technically (at least based on the comics of the time) the 95 judge uniform is actually close. What causes that film so many issues is the dissonance of the film (is it suppose to come off as a comedy? because it is... kind of hard to avoid once you cast Rob Schneider in a main role) which this film avoids with Dredd only getting a couple cold lines of bitter sarcasm, (which I read more as a mental reflex, then attempt at humor). 'No i was saying 'wait', so she could shoot you.' And of course the ego the lead. (which, I get you hired Stalloine are you not going to show his face?) This film had the inverse, it sounds like Urban had a clear 'if you tell me to take off the helmet, I am walking' mentality to Dredd stating he had in the helmet a note for himself 'grimace harder'.
Post-Apocalyptic settings are interesting sociologically because; if you have technology handling most of your daily life, and your faith in long-term humanity is diminished because humanity had shown it was so self-destructive that it chose it's own suicide, then what's the point in making strides. Let's just get drugged out and go to the fighting pits. But I guess how's that different than today. The flames of innovation and curiosity of the future must be stoked. Not because we fear death, but because this Universe and nature is so infinitely interesting and holds many mysteries to be unlocked.

There’s actually a theory that the human population will plateau around 2100 due to the slowly declining birth rate reaching a point where it matches the death rate. So basically, unless there’s another baby boom (which is very unlikely seeing as how the younger generations are straying away from having multiple children) the birth rate will just keep dropping until it matches the death rate and the human population will top out and stop growing.

@@mikegarwood8680 1984 was an exact parallel to Trump and his Fox News drones. He demonstrably lied at a rate 20 times higher than all prior Presidents and actively sought to create his own reality. There is no room for logic in a world of alternative facts. Trump's followers have since committed treason against the United States government and are generally destabilizing society with false information on the internet. Conservatives are well known anti-intellectual, anti-science, and anti-environment, which would ultimately result in the wasteland of this movie, Dredd. Environmental and anti-poverty measures matter. Liberals have continually improved human rights and quality of life since the dawn of civilization. If it was up to conservatives, we'd still be burning witches or in medieval times and slaughtering anyone who was different. Also, liberals dominate the world and advance culture forward, since they're simply the smartest and produce the most creative products. College professors, technology experts, and movie makers didn't conspire to be liberal. Instead, that's just what they happen to be as rational and successful people. And last, conservative culture always follows liberal culture eventually, but it's just about 25 years behind the times. Small-town conservatives of today are far far more liberal than than small-town conservatives from prior decades. Every culture evolves in the rational and liberal direction, but it's just that small-town conservatives are slower due to their generally spoiled existence as they hide from the world in their bubble.
