You've blown my mind in Dredd implying that the homeless man in was part of the Wally Squad but it makes sense: He's by the front door so he can see who comes and goes. He advertises that he's a junkie which would encourage the dealers to identify themselves to him as a potential customer. He doesn't move when instructed by Judges, implying he's not afraid of them and could get it all straightened out even if they did arrest him. The Justice department had become aware of the existence of Slow Mo so they would send in Wally Squad to investigate.

Never knew what the Long Walk was. Interesting how the Judges are given heavier sentences compared to the average citizen. Makes sense in a way. Judges are suppose to represent order, symbolize it. Be an example to the people. When one goes bad, that ruining that example and, in a place like Megacity One, can lead to a big spike in chaos.

It's worse than you think. Judges who violate their code are sent to Titan penal colony. That's Titan as in the moon of Saturn. There they have their faces mutilated by cyborg implants so they can survive without a suit in Titan's environment. For the record, Titan's average surface temperature is -180 C.

Now I imagine comics Dredd marching over to arrest Stallone Dredd, for willfull destruction of property, public endangerment and obstructing the street, since they'll have to close it down for a firecrew to come and put out that burning car. Stallone Dredd was a Drokking terrible Judge

Oh come on, they didn't mention the Titan Shuffle? If a Judge is convicted of a crime, they don't get sent to the regular prisons, since they would A: be dead within days locked up with the regular criminals and B: its too good for them. Instead, Judges get sent to a special penal colony on Jupiter's moon, Titan, considered one of the toughest prisons in the whole galaxy. More than that, owing to the harsh enviroment, even with partial terraforming, inmates undergo surgery upon arrival, to install special breather implants, which replace the patient's nose and results in permanant physical disfigurement, so that even after they have served their sentence and been released back to Earth, they will always carry the mark of their shame on their faces.

Well there is an answer for that which is when he took the long walk he somehow wound up going back in time and then subsequently got recruited into the local police department which explains what he does for a living in the mad max films, or it's possible the part about him going on the long walk is out the back end of a bull in other words propaganda because he is obviously not old enough. him being a guinea pig for an experiment with a time machine makes more sense.

Hoàng Nguyên actually the Royal family was kicked out due to France winning the Napoleonic wars through invading the British isle, this is why the EU (Europa United) was formed faster, and japan was banking on playing the three powers off one another to protect its self, and they had built up a strong army but Britannia has developed meck suits that forced japan to surrender. And funny enough the reason the holy Brittania empire is located in America is due to the revolution failing due to Benjamin Franklin betraying the patriots, and George Washington’s defeat at Yorktown. So I wouldn’t consider them Americans because they consider themselves Britannia’s. And remember code Geass was created by a Japanese guy...so history is kinda of weird

As it was intended, no. Time and time again it has shown to become a tyranny of the majority and has devolved into a fight of Us vs Them of demagoguery. It only truly works on smaller scales or with an authoritarian aspect that establishes and keeps a unified aspect of the people in it. When it’s not unified and groups are allowed and encouraged to be independent from the rest, it only creates conflict between them to the point where simple matters become heated and divisive debates over what is essentially trivial.
@easternrebel1061
@easternrebel1061 2 жыл бұрын
@@lostsaxon7478 a few years ago I would of disagreed intensely, but as I get older and as time goes on, I actually am starting to agree with you. Democracy sounds amazing on paper, but in practice we all see it's tremendous failures on a national scale. Whether it be the education system, law and order, justice, defense, or simply how we are ruled, ultimately it has failed. The only instance that I've seen it succeed is in the small town where I currently reside, but when applied to any larger body, it has a tendency to fail miserably. For a society to truly progress, and not fall into decadence , you need a strong hand and an iron will, and most importantly a unifying force, usually embodied in a person or movement. When everyone splits into their own factions, the results are infighting and weakness. Even our founding fathers warmed of factions and political division on party lines.

I know that sort of vaguely Spartanesque training from hell, starting from a young age, where few pass and many die, is a great way to establish your hero's badass credentials, but it's always seemed silly to me. Surely being less cruel and more willing to retrain those who fail the first time would lead to a higher output and fewer -potential supervillains- psychological issues?

The comics explain it better but basically, the judges were born out of police incompetence (among other things) in the mid-late 20th century. Every Judge is supposed to be perfect. This video misses a lot from the comics and seems closer to the recent film.
@piotrd.4850
@piotrd.4850 4 жыл бұрын
Curiously, two rivaling s-f writers gave similar answer to this. Robert Heinlein wrote that "training is not as hard as necessary; it is as hard as it is possible because nothing less would be fair for society and trainees themselves" (or to that effect). Harry Harrison, in "Simulated Training" short story wrote the same: as long as everybody knew there was training, way out, that stakes were not ultimate...they did not made ultimate commitment.

Numbers is not everything. The spartans believed in quality over quantity.
@timothymclean
@timothymclean 2 жыл бұрын
@@easternrebel1061 Not really, in either the sense that they had higher quality soldiers than other poleis or in the sense that they tried to. In fact, they thought that individual skill at fighting was meaningless in battle (which it mostly was, for the kind of warfare the Spartans preferred). The agoge was meant to instil what amounts to patriotism in young Spartiates, to make them into loyal Spartans with appropriate virtues. Also, Sparta does _not_ live up to the hype. They lost more battles than they won, disregarding internal slave revolts, and this gets worse if you leave out battles where allied non-Spartan soldiers were "weighing them down". They were also hilariously incompetent at strategy and logistics, even by the standards of ancient Greece (which generally had poor logistical capabilities compared to, say, Persia or Rome). (I learned a lot about Sparta in the past ~3 years.)

I am a massive fan of the dredd movie, but it saddens me that this clip didn't contain a single part of the 1995 dredd movie. It did have some redeeming qualities

Do they also have recycled food in the newer Dredd? In the Stallone one, there was humor present, sort of like the Starship troopers movie

What i gathered from this video was that the universe of Judge Dredd is 1984 with supercops and post apocalyptic events.
