@AlPapaАй бұрын
You might want to watch more of Judge Slaven. Nothing would tickle him more than being told by the courts above he's wrong. He doesn't think he's wrong, and he's exhaustively corrected Mr Martin so many times not because he really thinks he can get through to Eric, but because others might see this foolishness and go "well, guess I'm not paying this guru money for bad legal advice." The only tool he's come to the conclusion that might actually get through to him is confinement. And he's seen Mr Martin evolve, both the good and the bad - he's finally showing up to court, but he's escalating into hurting others. That, in itself, deserves jail time. But that's also not reflected in this judgment, else it'd be far longer than just 12 days. When he inevitably loses the contempt hearing, and very likely the jury trial on the DV case, this case will also be considered - has he learned from his time in confinement? Is he still contemptuous of the court and society's norms? What might have just simply been a short probation will likely turn into months long confinement.

I served on a jury a few years ago and I had a similar experience. great job by the judge here; he's not talking to Eric Martin - that guy is a lost cause - he's putting out the argument for posterity on why this way of looking at the world is anarchic and unsustainable hopefully a cautionary tale for the next person to want to try this

Thank You Squishy! It was glorious watching Mr Martin going into custody😁 I absolutely adore Judge Slavin. He definitely had the patience of a Saint with this guy! Sentencing him to jail time..along with his profound explanation as to why was *so spot on!* My hope is that while sitting behind bars Mr Martin will give some serious consideration to what Judge Slavin told him. We can only hope.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when a higher court reads his appeal and laughs their head off. It will go no where. Will be denied so fast that the court may charge him with frivolous use of the courts. I hope he has to pay to appeal or at least post a bond.
@HereticalMusingsАй бұрын
I am not sure how highly I’d rate his chances of being able to correctly file an appeal in the first place.
@kerbyfabАй бұрын
He does have to pay a bond to submit an appeal.
@randalljones137Ай бұрын
@ some courts on traffic offenses require a bond in the amount of their fine to appeal when there is no jail time required. His offense had possible jail time so he has a right to appeal with no bond required. It want get anywhere but he can appeal. I doubt if the circuit court will even hear arguments after reading his motions.
@jayschafer1760Ай бұрын
If this defendant does manage to actually file an actual appeal, the appeals court's clerks and interns etc will likely have much more hilarious material to add to their collection of "greatest WTF arguments". I wonder if the appeal would even make it to a judge before being shot down or refused to be formally heard.
@randalljones137Ай бұрын
@ only bond if the offence does not require jail time. If its one or both then no bond to appeal when there

Thank you!! Excellent content!!! Judge Slaven is a master at explaining "common sense" and society norms. If the defendant doesn't believe in money, his SSI check is just a scrap piece of paper, and why is a mentally/ physically able person accepting SSI??? Still takes zero responsibilty for any crimes commited. I'm surprised he agreed with the Judge regarding his shirt color.

This took far too long to end up where we always knew it would. All the time, money, and resources . What a waste of hard-working taxpayers' money. These people are playing games only because most often, the police or the courts don't want to be bothered, so they get away with it. But it's the people who follow the rules that are being punished because we are paying for it.
@HelynHughesАй бұрын
But how great that people can challenge the government, even if they are wrong. That is a system that values freedom. Be glad you have that.
@mmaxtonАй бұрын
Sure, but those challenges need to be based on the law. This guy wants to claim he’s a foreign agent, argue over his date of birth, and claim that his use of the word “pigs” wasn’t what we all know it was. Imagine if every single defendant did this. You would not want to pay the taxes for the amount of court employee wages involved. While the defendant does have the right to defend himself, he is also supposed to be held to the same standards as a licensed attorney if he chooses to do so. I loved the judge’s speech at the end, but he absolutely did NOT hold the defendant to those same standards. Because of that lapse, this ended up wasting a LOT more time than should have been allowed.

This is going to be a classic. This is exactly how judges should deal with this. I’m glad the judge called out the behavior of dismissing cases to save the hassle. That just emboldens them. Because no matter what the dismissal or evidence say, the sovcit gets to announce that they won.
