I had a job once with a company that if you got suspended for any reason they wouldn't include Monday or Friday in that suspension. The reason they gave is they didn't want to give you an extended weekend as a punishment. If you were suspended for 5 days it was Tue-Thur and then the following Tue and Wed. If you chose to use Mon or a Fri they considered that as you terminated your employment. You don't always get what you want and this guy was handed a chance to pick his own dates to serve and he blew it.

I’m Australian and have never heard of this practice my life. What sort of companies suspend staff and for what transgressions? How is this even permissible? I actually don’t think that that is allowable in this country at all. Our employment protection, set by our Federal Governments of the day, protects employees very strongly and most companies are excellent employers to their staff. I certainly have never had a difficult employer here in my life. And as for employers being able to suspend staff sounds it sounds like high school and seems very bizarre. I truly am very interested to know if you don’t mind explaining it to me without revealing anything personal of course. Regards

@@karenglenn6707 WHAT? In the US you just can't be fired unless for certain reasons like assaulting a fellow employee or customer. Stealing is another but if you come to work late to often, you just can't be fired. You must be given warnings and then a suspension before being let go. If you call in "sick" to often, create problems at work by acting out, anything really other than doing the job you were hired to do, you could be suspended. How do they handle "problem" employees down there?
