Prior to abolition in the UK the sentence of death was usually carried out within a month of sentencing. And when the sentence was carried out there was no fuss or fanfare, no public or press witnesses and no last words. The executioner entered the condemned’s holding cell, pinioned him and marched him to an adjacent room where he was place on the trap door, noose over his head and down he went. Often times the entire process took less than 10 seconds. This really was swift justice and as humane as it could ever be. Compare this to the media circus that judicial executions have become in the US. The real victims of the death penalty are those that are involved in carrying it out.

What he did was a typical narcissistic psych strategy. He thanked the people responsible for condemning him, claiming he approved of and appreciated their actions. He asked for a sentence he KNEW he was getting, and made sure to explain how he is MUCH better off with it. This takes away some degree of satisfaction from both the Prosecutor and Judge, as they are forced to play into the verbal construct he created and give him what he wants. He couldn't even let the harsh "let God have mercy on your soul" thing go without challenging it. My soul is fine, I don't need your mercy, you've given me an upgraded housing situation and I thank you for it. You have helped ME. No mention of the victims, their family, empathy or remorse. Nope. @intelstruggle8203 Жыл бұрын
I think it's a comforting thought that we tell ourselves (and media produces) that anyone capable of murder is a sadistic, overly animalistic, loud and obnoxious uncontrollable person. But the truth is that anyone, and I mean _anyone_, is capable of it under the right circumstances and if they feel absolutely justified in their actions then they likely won't feel much remorse about it. Even the sweetest little granny you can imagine. Now, that's not to say that everyone is capable of becoming an outright vicious monster towards everyone. But very few people are, and that's more of a trope we convince ourselves of. Most killers aren't monsters, they are humans who succumbed to the very human emotion of extreme passion and made a bad decision in the heat of the moment. If you learn in-depth about the |-|it|er Youth then you'll see that the /vast/ majority of people are capable of what they deem to be justice. It's a very rare case that someone grew up in that environment and didn't agree to do it. We as homo sapiens are great apes, albeit hairless ones, but society plays a much larger part in our morals than we would ever think on first consideration.
@mrblaque215 Жыл бұрын

Trust me, when that judge said death an ice cold shiver went down his spine. Death row is set up to torture him. That's why they wait so long. They WANT you to change and be rehabilitated. That way, when they walk you down that hall you're a changed man. You're not the same person that committed those crimes. You've went to school, gained trust with guards and been a good boy for the whole time on death row only to change and realize your change means nothing. It was all for nothing. It shows him exactly what his victims faced. They also had things going good for them. They had dreams if what their kids would be abd who they would marry. They were given a life through a miracle and it was all taken away, because of this thing's actions. I hope he does have to wait 15 years before they do it. I want him to become normal and rehabilitated. Only then will someone like that realize why they are there and that they deserve it.

I saw a documentary on prisons they were saying that their death row inmates had more privileges than other prisoners because the only punishment they could be given for bad behavior was taking away privileges. He is right, he will be living better on death row than a person who had commented a far lesser crime. Add to the fact that it will take 10 to 15 years for the sentence to be carried out.

he is greatly confused as to what will happen after he is put to death, we are eternal beings and the LORD GOD will judge this person and send him to eternal torment. He thinks he'll come back for another go round as another person...what a fool!

He's read the chapters of life all wrong if he believes he will be reincarnated after his death. It is appointed for man to die once and after which the judgement. Begging the judge to give him the death penalty was him attempting to control the narrative of what he feared all along. I'm not from the US and don't believe in the death penalty but an eternity of torment outside of the presence of God is a punishment worse than death itself. God help us all.

And that's exactly why he shouldn't have been granted his wish. He is a narcissist; he is needing to control everything. And, he even controlled the court ruling. His "punishment" of death was his wish, so really, he gets no punishment at all! He deserves to suffer; not be doted on. The judge made the wrong decision; he's letting this man escape punishment.
@brooklyn.d2390 Жыл бұрын
I get he seems like he is polite and appreciative but if he watch back he does seem like a narcissist and just very unaware. Saying "we live for today, not the past" was quite insensitive and convenient for him to say and this whole nice guy act lots of criminals do it so of course they look better.

@@thebirdsnextdoor You really dont know that, that could of been a manipulative move. He knew he was getting the death penalty and didnt want it(99% of criminals rather get life than death penalty) So he thought by him asking for death, theyd go against his "wishes" and give him what he really wants which is life.

The living conditions are "better" on death row compared to "normal" prison. Its a fact that many lifetime inmates end up realizing they could have it better on death row, so they end up killing their prison cell-mate just so they CAN get a death sentence and go over to death row v lifetime in regular prison. He even said it himself "I'll be living more comfortably." This was all about himself and being cozy.

@@sugarsore No, the conditions are better when on death row. Inmates get to have their own cell to themselves, they don't have to worry about other inmates hurting them because they are in the cell more than if in general population, and "well-behaved" inmates get entertainment amenities like a TV, books, etc. He will literally have a better experience on death row.
@anlace3447 Жыл бұрын
no, he did NOT want the death penalty. It reverse psychology so he would NOT get the death sentence. Also it was a way of showing that he still had control, that he was getting what he wanted....but he did not want the dealth penalty. last year Lorenzo offered to plead no contest in exchange for taking the death penalty off the table, but the state attorney would not allow it. So Lorenzo clearly did not want the death sentence.
