As a mom of an autistic teen who also has ADHD.... you're ENTIRELY CORRECT! It's a reason, not an excuse and our job is to teach our children to work through their disabilities to be able to function in society. Im 25 now and still struggling to find a job that doesn't send me back on the personal work i have done.

@@brinacodding2573 and I'm so sorry you never got the help and guidance you deserved in order to get through this already difficult life. Unfortunately there are so many like you who struggled and suffered through childhood and even through adulthood before being diagnosed simply because not enough information was available. I can't stand people who try to claim that the drastic uptick in autism/adhd diagnosis have gone up recently because we are all snowflakes who whatever nonsense. When in reality, so many such as yourself, have simply gone undiagnosed until more info has been available especially over the last decade. My son is 14 and when he was diagnosed, there wasn't really a lot of help available to teach us parents how to raise autistic children. Now, because there are so many more resources than before so I could take parenting classes and training geared towards different neurodiverse children, new medications to try, new therapies available and I am so grateful! When he was 3, I had an idiot specialist at the school tell me that I needed to just accept that my son would never talk, never progress, and never would even potty train. But this moron also tried to tell me that through his program, he has cured autism a couple times lmao now, my son takes grade level classes with accommodations, has learned what's appropriate during social situations, his verbal expression and verbal IQ has improved and his nonverbal IQ is grade level average. He has learned that when he is sensory overloaded, he just has to come and say "I need to take a break" and I let him walk over to wherever he wants and he will sit down amd kind of zone out. He likely will never be entirely independent but he can have a job (with help from the ARC) live in an assisted community, learn to use the bus system, learn to manage his money and medications, learn to be mostly self sufficient. Before all the help that's now available, he wouldn't be where he is now and he still has plenty of room to grow. But it only works if his support system such as myself don't hold him back because I say "he can't so the world must tip toe around him." The mother in this court case is doing her son a giant disservice and he learned how to work it. I was like that too until my son was in the 4th/5th grade and his teacher realized he was playing us so he didn't have to do hard work lol

He (and his mother) seem to just want the answers they want, and if they get any other answers, it's the lawyer's fault. Sometimes, some jail/prison time is inevitable, and your attorneys job switches to trying to get the best for you while you are there (advocating less time, treatments, etc). I'd say on your third time, probation isn't appropriate. That isn't what defendant or his mother wants to hear, but it has nothing to do with his lawyer or what he is or is not doing.
