A defense attorney is there to guide the defendant to the process, because the process is sophisticated and complex and adversary so it is way to easy to convict somebody innocent without an attorney. The defense attorney is needed to sentence somebody, else one could say he was innocent but just wasn't able to defend oneself properly. Because of that a defense attorney who does his job badly is a terrible thing, becaude you leave room for speculation. Therefore one could say a defense attorney helps to get you convicted, by robbs you of any excuses because he tries to come up with all excuses.

I don't think legally obliged to. Without a lawyer, the defendant will not go to trial. 1. Some lawyer has to do it, regardless of how many turn the client down. 2. If that is the area of law you want to get into, this is a big case to gain experience and forward your career. 3. They oversee the trail and ensure it's simply a fair trail and the client isn't being dragged through the gutters.

You can tell in the judges voice that even she is devastated by having to hand down this sentence. She probably hoped she would never meet someone who deserved such a thing, she seems to be a genuinely kind person who hopes for the best in the world. I'm glad she didn't show him any leniency but I feel bad for her because it's almost like she had to lose something in herself to uphold the law in this case. It just shows how much damage one man can do, it ripples outward and touches everyone. I hope he never sees the light of day again and I hope this can be something that his victims and the attorneys and judge can eventually move on from.

Defence lawyers don’t always believe their client is innocent. Nor do they usually want to see their client get an acquittal. Their job is really to make sure the state dots their I’s and crosses their T’s to make certain that the defendant truly deserves to go to jail. They’re also to make certain the innocent don’t do time for a crime they never committed. Detectives and prosecutors do occasionally get it wrong sometimes.

It's not the client that's important but the law. We all deserve to have the law fairly applied and followed. These laws should be treated as almost sacred. They give us our rights ! Not perfect but the best we have ever had , so far in history. We call always ammend these laws , add new ones , etc.
