The mom in the first case made up that the title flew out the window so the defendant wouldn’t ask why the car hadn’t been registered yet. Then when they got the duplicate she strung them along some more bc she didn’t want the car registered in her name. She was prolly hoping she could unload it on somebody else before the defendants got wise to her and just repossessed the car, either that or it had already disappeared and she knew the liability would be too great to have it registered to her

It's seems to me like it was the plaintiffs who were conducting a scam. After failing to get the vehicle registered and then having it stolen, the hassle of trying to get it back was too much. Not to mention the plaintiffs mother said she did sell the car to a man that was arrested - which is how the car eventually got impounded. They most likely thought to get the defendant to make a duplicate title (as if that was some how suspicious) to make it look like they retook possession of the car to resell it. Thats the only reason I can think of for the defendants to make a duplicate, and the plaintiffs to ask for one and then act like they didn't.

Without watching part 3, I could see the mom’s solution to the title and registration issue is… get a fresh title. Then she can register it and sell it while her son is in jail. So I kind of believe she did call about “losing” the title. But we’ll see how things goes I suppose.

actually once he signed over title and accepted cash to seal deal he is no longer liable period. Although if something happened during the no transfer title in buyers name , the seller would have popped up in any accident report. A little messy but seller still would not be liable. I am surprised Judge Judy is confused about the liability issue regarding the transfer of title and registration. Obviously, you are not liable once the title is signed and given to the buyer. Otherwise, even if the buyer was on the way to get the registration as soon as they bought the car and crashed and killed someone the seller (under Judge Judy's incorrect assessment of liability) would be liable. This is ridiculous. C'mon Judy, we expect better!
