Exactly - all that did was undermine the plaintiff’s case. If they had above-average automotive knowledge, they should have known better than to sink $1,800 into a car worth $1,100. This wasn’t even a case of a unscrupulous mechanic taking advantage of a unsuspecting customer; this was a 20 year old car predictably falling apart, piece by piece, albeit at a bad time for the plaintiffs. That’s not the mechanic’s fault.

Yeah I don't know how big deer in the US are but here in the UK your car is generally a write off, even if it's a new vehicle, let alone 20 years old already! If you hit a full grown deer and you walk away without needing an ambulance I'd call it a win. They are all around where I live so everyone knows someone who's been in an accident or very near miss with a deer. Thankfully mine was a near miss with a full grown stag when I was in a little car not much bigger than an old style mini! The owner of a local butchers had his brand new car written off by a deer as it was thrown up onto the roof of his car, I like to think they were avenging their relatives 😂😂

Had a nice Chevy Cavalier once. The radiator went out. Then the thermostat. Then a cracked engine block. The shop quoted me $3,000 for a new engine and then said they couldn't guarantee the transmission. I knew $3,000 was 10 months of car payments and got a nice used car that I still drive today.

When i was young and broke, I bought an old 88 Isuzu pickup for $500. I beat it into the ground. I wasn't a technician at the time so I didn't know anything about cars and at one point, it had been so long since I checked the oil, when I did, it didn't even register on the dipstick. I drove it for 3 years and it was still running when I used it as a trade in. Best truck-per-dollar I ever owned. Those little Isuzu pick ups are tough mfers

1st.. the plaintiff was annoying af .. 2nd the ENGINE that they got for a HUGE bargain was working. the trans wouldn't shift, which she says right at the end, it needed transmission fluid.. SO, let me sue the defendant for 5000 bucks bc in the end, we just needed to add Tranny fluid to the car when he didn't even work on the transmission.. sheeesh.. wacky af..

Yeah, probably much easier taking out the bolts with the transmission out of the car... But I never had that luxury and had my bendy sockets and extensions to be able to wiggle my way around .. Also that is my experience with Chevys.. TBH You probably would on the car she had.. but still.. I do get your point..

If you get your car repaired for $1800 you should get some kind of garantie that it is going to work for at least 6 months. The car breaking after a short ride shows that the mechanic didn’t do his job right. I agree with Judge Judy that they should have better bought another car instead of having this one repaired, still if the mechanic said he could fix the car, he was lying. But with no garantie they can do nothing. An expensive lesson… The mechanic was not a good man.

Mechanic was hired for engine and exhaust work. Car broke down a block away as it couldn’t shift gears due to no transmission oil. I have run a few automatic transmission’s dry (I was young and dumb). They take time to break. This indicates it was an older underlaying issue. Not mechanic’s problem as it wasn’t what he was hired for

So she wants a full refund for the car...because her son has had it for a year now and.because her son hit a deer....and now, the radiator doesn't work and now, she wants to pull a Karen and get her money back for the car, rather than having insurance fix the damage that the deer inflicted on the car....and its going to cost $800 MORE to fix the car than what the car is actually worth, in that condition.
