I agree 100%. My co-workers's wife was denied benefits when she had advanced Parkinson's; they reapplied when she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, and received another denial. I was denied four times even though I'm terminally ill; I'm finally receiving disability payments, but that doesn't make up for having lost everything while fighting their decisions. And the defendant is receiving benefits for a GAMBLING PROBLEM??

I'm guessing(just a theory as I have not seen the second part yet), her addiction may have resulted in theft or robbery. If she has a record, no employer will hire her if they think she has the potential to steal from the company to feed her addiction. I'm not condoning nor condemning her receiving benefits unless she's defrauding the system. I guess it's similar to those individuals with the food addiction as seen on my 600lb life.

It IS a pretty dumb choice to make in the first place BUT there is a mental health element to it as well. Addiction of any kind IS a mental illness and a disability. Do you drink alcohol? If you do, you started something that was very risky and addictive EVEN if you’re not an addict it was still a risk taken…so you can basically tell this to MANY kinds of people not just gamblers. But ofc drinking is so common that it’s not reasonable to just expect most people to not start the action. Many people wouldn’t like the idea of being told not to do something so it’s best to ALSO think more about better help or education on the matter.

When someone is unfit due to disability, under aged, etc.. payments are made to an approved person. Same as survivor benefits.

They told me file for a separation and then you can still be with your husband EVERYONE does that . But I was raised better then that. I'm a recovering addict myself and can't believe there's social security disability for an addiction. I also have CHF and wasn't even able to get approved SSD with a 17% EFR. Rewarding someone like this with social security just keeps them from working. They also can't reach the bottom they need to seek and stay in recovery. A hand up I'm more than willing to give but a handout causes resentment and doesn't fix the problem. I don't mean to vent or sound angry but there are tons of cases like this on JJ. One or sometimes both litigants are dead beats in life living only on SS, abusing the system some how and not appearing productive in much of anything else. God forgive me....
