He literally says at the end that he shouldn't have to pay because of his father's past crack addiction!!! You can't use that as your excuse for your whole life and you can't screw your father over just because you're pissed at the past.

Evidently the young man has unresolved issues with his dysfunctional parents. Judge Mathis needs to stop that "I did it in spite of it all u can too" tired song. Everyone is different and react to family dysfunction differently. He's a poor judge of character and needs to stop the comparison. That's arrogance!

There are times that you have to coexist with the lies, rumors & half-truths in SILENCE and no retaliation because to give attention to it, amplifies it- depleting your energy. Watch how your surroundings change. Take note of who believes what’s being/been said. Pay attention to who disconnects. Because there WILL BE a day when God SPEAKS UP for you. It's hard growing up in toxicity. You just have to remember that if you feel you were short-changed by your parents, well, you still have two boot straps to pull on and whatever strength of Spirituality you have within you to pull yourself out of whatever gutter you think your parents left you in and rely on relatives or teachers or the community to help you build your strength into the person you can be, even if your parents couldn't do enough for you - for whatever reason. I believe in God, and I believe He gave us all the Spirit, a conscience, and the free will to do the best we can for ourselves and for others. But we can't help others if we aren't going to help ourselves first - and we can't blame our circumstances on our upbringing for the rest of our lives, certainly not into adulthood anyway. 🙏🏽💞

And as it turns out, his dad coached a football team that he was apart of even if for 1 year. There’s plenty of people who don’t have fathers and a working single mother that have great childhoods. He came to court trying to gain sympathy like his father owed him for it. Yeah, his father might owe him quality time, but he doesn’t owe him money because of it. To the complainers of Judge Mathis, I was a child of an alcoholic and was sexually abused by my father. My parents were divorced. I never blamed my father alcoholism or his abuse on me for my poor choices later in life. I made mistakes like many of my generation, did not finish high school, but got my GED. Went to a trade school Job Corps and got jobs and got stable work. I never blamed my father for my mistakes, for I owned each and every one of them. Never drank nor did the other thing. I kept clean and made mistakes adults do. And am now disabled from genetics. Doing fine enough. So, the child is grown, father is clean and everyone pity's the grown man for his mistakes that he blames dad for. You make your own mistakes. I had a rough childhood, but I took responsibility for the mistakes I did on my own as an adult.

Why would you expect a child to say, "I want to go to school like other children," especially a special needs child? Kids don't like school, they don't understand how important education is. As an 8th grader he's supposed to make all the right choices and get things done even when his dad is on crack and his mom doesn't care? C'mon, his parents need to take some accountability. Sometimes Judge acts like someone saying they used to be a crackhead fixes everything that happened when they were a crackhead. He also seems to thing single mothers are infallible because he had a single mother. But we've all seen some terrible ass single mothers on this show. Childhood trauma follows us all through life and he acts like since he came out cool everyone should, but things that will break some people don't bother others. Cases like this infuriate me. They both set the kid up for failure and the dad has the nerve to stand there like, "we raised him better." Sir you were on crack, you didn't raise him. At best he saw you. You can't raise anyone when you're on crack.

Such disrespect you have to for people who were drug addicts made good with their lives. Mathis was one and he came out of it, went to law school and made something of himself, married, raised good kids and they never went to drugs. You never know what happens to a druggie who cleans themselves up and does good with their life, for it does happen.

That young man better wake up and learn how to forgive, stand up for your man take responsibility for your own actions. People have to learn to stop blaming their parents for how bad their lives are. He wasn't abused physically or mentally and that is a blessing considered so many children are

Having a cracked out father, a mother who’s barely present because she’s having to work so much, and a learning disability due to whatever reason (mental, medical, developmental, etc) can actually screw a person up in to adulthood especially if he’s never received the help and support he needed in his formative years. Y’all are so quick to judge…it’s clear he’s not okay.

This comment section is strange 🙄This boy is no longer a child and he’s a grown man. Even when he was a teen he could have made the decision to want more for him self and get a diploma and make something of himself. Instead of blaming his crack head dad and why didn’t his hard working mother have her son enrolled in school????? It’s unfortunate but just because he’s fair skin doesn’t give him an excuse. He actually has an advantage in America over darker complexion kids that grow up with both crack and drug addicted parents. JM seen right through his excuses. Get therapy and make better choices

I don’t feel like Judge was unreasonable although his dad was on drugs (which can cause a lot of damage) does not give him an excuse, I went through a similar situation wanted to go back to school they said i could not enroll myself guess what I did got an adult to enroll me because I was determined. One thing I did notice is that at the end when his mom cried the son did not speak until his gf nodded her head which gave him permission to speak. The dad had a point when he stated that his son was responsible before he met that gf and I guarantee you she has some type of control over what happens in the son’s life. I hope the son gets the help he needs because if that was my man he would def be in therapy or getting a trade or something

I mean Mathis maybe been a little bit harsh. But I understand what he did here. I get it the young man had a rough upbringing. But in the real world rough upbringings aren't excuses for doing bad period. He gotta start takijg responsibility for his actions. The dad though is quite pitiful bcuz he completely brushes under the rug what his crack addiction did.
