When the mother told the story of how her daughter overcame drugs, to getting a master's degree, to raising (3) girls on her own, to then counsel others. What a compelling story of redemption! I felt how proud the mother still is...even after her daughters passing.

Eh..Going to be honest, I think this is common with most people. They act like a common law marriage, they plan to get married but haven't walked down the isle. But they're technically sharing everything from the kitchen sink, to the bathroom--even doing taxes for their fiance etc. I doubt she thought she was robbing her daughter and mother of her belongings--but she should've respected their feelings all the same and talked it through. Also playing the lesbian card was ridiculous to say the least.

I can understand taking jewelry off the body before it is taken to the hospital or morgue because people steal anything of value, even if it’s on a dead body. Problem is, if the mother and/or daughter/s wanted her personal belongings then they should be the 1st to get them, not the fiancé. Sad that people can’t get along even after a loved one passes. The real problem concerning personal property, is that this lesbian couple was not legally married. Therefore ,Judge is right, it goes to the next of kin. If both women had made a will, about who was to get their property should something happen to either one of them, then she would have been legally the owner of all her deceased partner's earthly goods. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with this case. Same laws of inheritance, disposal of your estate, applies rather you are gay or straight.
