It's very easy to move the engine remove bolts from cross member to engine frame mount brackets.you will access this from holes in lower control arm holes.jack up engine slide ate steel between mount and crossmember back as far as the Mount will be moved back.weld plate to cross member. The engine can now slide back on plate.on trans cross member cut each end the same with as inside of frame once engine is moved in position plate end of trans cross member and bolt to frame.you will have to gusset new plates on engine crossmember. Before you start take a note of angle of engine so you can duplicate after move. Solid yellow connectors are air bag related connector with 2 holes at each end is all connector where you would plug in code readers or scanners

Wiring = I did a Lexus V8 swap into my Toyota mini truck, Toyota has a 5 day subscription program for DIY/hobbyists so you can download manuals, wiring diagrams, etc. basically all the info available for the dealers. I was able to enter the vin from both vehicles and have all the data needed to merge both harnesses. You might see if GM/Chevy has a similar option for you, I have never found the Haynes or Chilton manuals to be that accurate but times may have changed.

Steering = Unless the S10 steering system is inadequate I would use it. If the box is worn, just replace the box same with BJ's. As far as looks, lots of cars from that era have items on one side only. Auburn with exhaust pipes coming out of the hood, Bentley with massive supercharger on the side low and in front, also Buggatti. Rolls had several cars with a single driving light on the drivers side. So just hide the box. Cut a 45 at the end of the frame but leave space for the bolt and box mounting surface. Plate that cut end to maintain frame torsional strength. Then notch the fender and hood panels around that. If it still looks odd make a rounded bump sheet metal cover, if you hate the one eye look make a second for the other side. Keep it up, and go watch your first video. You are making great progress. I have faith, slide the engine/trans back and get welding. It was running right? Leave wiring cleanup until last. engine cooling, steering, shifter, seat, front glass and you are driving. It is a rat rod. Oh I miss my 71 Chevelle...

Move the fenders up make cardboard template basic shape of the fender and see how much you can move the fenders forward should be about 2 to3" then fill the negative space with metal , tach back on the frame ends that should get you in the right spot then , it 4.3 s10 basic wiring not that advanced find the door switch harness cut it off , tuck it in somewhere, find light harness splice in you bulb sockets done

Engine = Sorry you are in a time crunch but I agree with your conclusion, move the engine back for the simple reason of fitting the cooling system in easily. The handling and aesthetic are just gravy bonus's.

moving the motor back is not going to be as bad as you mite think. plus u may be able to shorten the steering shaft which will allow you to move the steering box back as well. which equates to more room! this s@#t can be discouraging but keep the vision of the badazz short alive!

@@MarekMakes Some other random thoughts: You can ditch the stock EFI and throw on an old school carb or there are companies out there like FiTech that make a stand alone EFI system for LS engines. Not sure what engine you have .

Yes I have thought of getting a new intake / distributor/ 500 cfm carb … but what about the transmission? Isnt there some computer input/ connection?

@@MarekMakes I'm not sure what trans you have but FiTech does make a stand alone computer setup for GM 4L60/65/80/85E transmissions. I'm sure that there are others out there but I have not looked into it much. I'm stuck in the dark ages with my SBC 350 and 350 Turbo trans, lol. Good luck!
