Ignoring crying toddlers/babies in the first two years of their lives gives them attachment issues for the rest of their lives. This is super messed up, not just the part that the husband is a complete jerk. He’s literally traumatizing the baby.
@Lucifronz
@Lucifronz Жыл бұрын
Even if that weren't the case, a 4 month old needs constant supervision. Human babies are immensely fragile. It only takes one little accident for the baby to just straight up fucking die. Taking a nap is one thing, but blocking out your baby entirely for your own benefit is selfish, stupid and recklessly irresponsible. At around 4 months, I would think a baby is capable of grabbing things and putting it in their mouth. Not effectively, but the possibility is likely and only gets more likely each day that passes. That means the baby can find something nearby and potentially choke on it.
@shioramenrabbit
@shioramenrabbit Жыл бұрын
Aside from that, it's unlikely he's feeding the baby on the correct schedule (especially as there were signs of neglect when taken to a doctor) which is its own whole can of worms in regards to potential to cause long-term health impacts.

Nah I agree with the last comment Dylan talked about, its not unhinged from the wealth-hoarding perspective. You can never save too much or have enough saved up to care to infinite future generations of your family… anything can happen, a recession, a war, an environmental catastrophe..so there is always more saving of resources to be done. The picture the daughter paints of her horrible misogynist dad doesn't make sense at all with his actual response. We need more context but looks like the daughter is exaggerating and invalidating her dad to me. He's a "breadwinner" in quotes because she doesn't appreciate him supporting the family. If he's getting cold food he probably works long hours, coming home after dinner, but you won't see the daughter putting that in the story. Time for compassion: going to food banks when you earn a lot isn’t the way people stay rich, and I don’t think anyone goes to such extremes being self-aware. Since we have no context, I’m inclined to believe this behavior stems from past trauma around money or limiting beliefs. Looks like the answer would be 1. Therapy and/or 2. I am 20 now and I still live at home, but I was a 16 year old who lived through this. I don't know what her mom is like, but for me, because they were always fighting, my mom was always stressed out and angry, and she would take out her frustrations on us the same way my dad treated her. The strange thing is it really fucks with you psychologically because your mom is the one who's always home, so you feel closer to her because she's the one raising you. I grew up really hating my dad because I felt like I needed someone to blame for my mom yelling at me, but also, maybe because it was easier to understand why my mom was angry. I can't understand why my dad chooses to act the way he does. Even now I still get so angry when I see my dad criticizing my mom, dismissing and ignoring her, while he's on the couch doing hardly anything for us or the house. Maybe the girl is an AH, but she's totally justified and I can't be mad at her. It honestly makes me so mad how our parents expect us to be okay growing up with emotional chaos, but then they're offended when we're mad at them for it. @@neliabedelia I'm also 20 years old, live at home (but am moving to school in a couple of weeks), and lived through a similar circumstance. My mother was abusive though, so I almost understood why my dad never did anything around the house/stayed out of the house most of the time; doing something "wrong" or not to her specifications equaled abuse, so he just left when possible and they avoided each other. When they did talk, they fought, oftentimes in front of my sister and I or in an enclosed space like a car. Very scary when you're a little kid, even more so when you have younger siblings looking to you to protect them when the adults get violent. It makes you grow up fast. People underestimate how even if the anger isn't directed at the children themselves, arguing in front of your kids has the potential to psychologically fuck them up for years. Especially repeatedly over time. I think the 16 year old is doing the best she can in an unstable home and desperately hoping that her parents will grow up and do their jobs, so that she won't have to. (I did the same thing until I turned 14, where I kind of just gave up that things could ever change.) I think she's hoping for the sake of her siblings that her dad will realize that his behavior is directly affecting her and the other kids and that he'll change for their sakes. I honestly wish her and her siblings all the best, it's a hard way to grow up that you don't really understand (like Dylan) unless you've lived it.

To the dad coming home from work: I used to see that too before I moved out. Dylan what often happens in these scenarios is that fathers like come home want everything to be perfect, while they make the most mess. My mom worked her ass off, and my dad left everything a mess after eating or in the bathroom. Then she had to work again. Which resulted in her going late to bed. And afterwards he is mad, because why isn't she coming to bed with him?!!! And even when she started working again, he still expected her to do all the work. And on the rare occasion he did work around the house he wanted us to praise him all day for it. On some days I had to do it, because sometimes she had to stay longer at home and he just sits around, and I was cleaning around him while he complains. It makes you feel like a servant. So I like the girl in the post for having the guts to treat her father, how he treats them.

When it's comes to openly mocking the dad in an attempt to get him to see the error in his ways they are knowingly risking the wrath of an already angry and bitter person, you can trust the family has already tried almost every other avenue to communicate the effects of their behavior to them.

I am totally opposite becouse while my dad was working and mom never got a job becouse she didnt want to she also wasnt much of a satm. House was never clean. I never could have friends over becouse of it. She rarely cooked, and as a small child i would need to wash bowls to make cearlar for dinner for me and my Brother we would make cearal or instant noodless, till dad came from work late and made some pasta and store bought sauce etc. And mom had a new hobby every month doing whatever, but also play the victim all the time. She would complain to us about dad working too much but then not want to go anywhere as a family either. House would only be cleaned every few months after dad lost it and shouted. The op didnt mention if the house is actually very clean or whatever there are small siblings the mom spends time taking care of. Its possible the daughter spends more time with mom and dad is the one always shouting so will side with her when the situation is the mom actually does close to nothing the whole day and eg. Refused to get a job which i saw a causing a lot of resentment and few divorces in my life.

@@marthaschmidt6445OP obviously has no problem with the state of the house and if the husband is complaining about a shower not being ready for him right as he walks in the door, I doubt he's walking into a disaster zone. She mentions her youngest brother says look its daddy. Sounds like a fairly young child and obviously has younger siblings other than that one if they specify the youngest. OP even said her mom and siblings laughed so there are multiple children at the least. We have no reason to believe the house is messier than average. His complaints were a dirty carpet, cold food, food when he gets home, keeping the kids quiet and having a shower ready. If it were worse I'm sure we'd hear about the dishes and kids toys and such. The dad one was just proof that people can go their whole life without growing up at all. working doesn’t mean you get to be a dick to everyone in your life, especially the few people you chose to have around you and the woman that’s constantly working to take care of your kids and keep your house nice. Like it doesn’t matter if your day was stressful or you work hard you don’t get to take that out on your family that’s immature. The kid was GOATED for that move.

In the story about the daughter pretending to be the father, there was a moment she said that she tried her best to talk to her dad about it but it wasnt sinking in. I think humuroous moments like this can help the person think about their actions, but maybe not all the way or with an audience. One time my dad was asking for something in a not nice tone, and I ended up joking saying "please forgive me" on my knees pretending to cry. Next time he did try his best not to talk in that type of tone.

Because my parents had to go through what they call the “struggle” growing up they worked very hard to provide for their children what they didn’t have. But when they were kids they did have to go to things like food banks and use food stamps. And just hearing that someone is going around and taking food when they don’t need it and have the means to go buy the food they need is really irritating.

But in general you could say everyone on AITA is lying, and all these stories are technically one sided and can never be 100% truthful as people always even unconsciously are biased towards themselves ofcourse. Discussing whether or not she told the truth or not isn't doing anything, you either believe her or you don't, but these are all the info we got, and to me the story we got would be NTA. If you believe what she said, then to me she is NTA as her own mother and siblings didnt even stop her and instead seemed happy about it, as if relieved someone fought back against the father. The girl making the "dad's parody" absolutely slays. Imagine being so frustrated by your family situation and seeing your mom so helpless that you have to come up with something like this. I think the fact she talked to him before is already so brave, it must have been so hard to find the courage to do that. As a father, the fact your child feels compelled to take action like that should have been a big alarm bell that the kids were suffering from the situation. I am sure it wasn't fun for the dad to witness the "parody", but the point wasn't for him to be fun, it was a desperate, last attempt at catching his attention. It might be a good father in other moments, I don't think the daughter was ever implying he is an horrible person through and through. @@ihavenoname330 firstly, I have lived the experience. My parents were in an arranged marriage and aren't the happiest couple. Regardless of that, I'd never disrespect my mum or dad like this. It's not a bad thing. Also, he could've just felt reasonably disrespected and not wanted to talk which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. The mocking child was NTA imo. I've been around a lot of parents like that and they make life insufferable and sometimes you have to take drastic measures to make them aware of what they're doing. If the youngest child can recognize the dad's shitty behaviour as normal then it's definitely something that's been going on for a long time. These kinds of parents won't listen if you decide to "talk" to them. This way, he can't dismiss how everyone in the family views him. Hopefully, he can work on it and their relationship gets better. I can't blame the kid, they're young and they don't have the capabilities to confront parental figures in what we think is a proper way. They're doing what they can and kudos to them for even trying tbh.

For the birthday one, I believe that Jessica is that jealous friend. My fiancé has a couple, he doesn’t hang out with them anymore and when he does it’s with mutual friends, who have tried insulting me or gets jealous of other girls like they’re his girlfriend. We’ve been together for 8 years and it’s honestly amusing to me to hear those stories. Crazy how delusional some people can be.

There was an update to that one; OP dumped the guy but before she did she asked him if he and Jessica had ever hooked up before. They hadn’t, but he said that Jessica had offered to get “revenge” on OP. The update is honestly a rollercoaster, turns out the now-ex BF became obsessed with finding out who Adam & Jake were, found them on socials, and then became convinced that OP only dated them because they’re rich, and that she’d left Adam for Jake bc Jake had money too. He literally concocted this whole narrative in his head, enabled and partially created by his friends, and held all that fiction against her.

@thylionheart Never get tied up in a narrative you make up yourself. A buddy of mine, my crush, and I work at the same place, and my buddy and I were having a conversation. By crush walks in to talk about something work related and it took my friend's attention and he had to leave. She asked if she was interrupting anything and I said no. A little time passes and I start to worry about if she was implying something, then following that line of thinking I started to worry about if she thought we were gay or something. After a little more time, I realized I shouldn't worry about something I literally just made up in my head. I have no idea where that line of thinking would have taken me, but it wouldn't have been good.

I have a handful of platonic guy friends who have been there for my husband and I through thick and thin for over 10 years. In the past I thought I had more, though. I had to distance myself from some guys who I thought were my platonic friends, but would do similar things like the wedding dress guy. Allllll the vibes are there. I remember reading the wedding dress cosplay & the food bank ones when they were posted to Reddit. Both of them are infuriating tbh. An engagement party & wedding are two totally separate things & if it was that much of a concern to the bride, they should have set a dress code. You don’t get to masquerade a surprise wedding as a costume party & get upset if people wear a white dress as part of their costume. With the food pantry one, I can understand being frugal. But the moment you decide to intentionally dress like a homeless person & drive around in a beat up car, that’s when you know it’s gone too far and that you’re a selfish, problematic AH. It is not simply just HIS money to decide what gets done with it, it’s both of theirs. The fact that he’s so controlling over finances that he has his own money & he still gets say over how her money is spent. That’s no longer being frugal, that’s bordering on financial abuse.

No but, seriously, Dylan's thought patterns truly surprise me (in a good way!) whenever I watch these videos. All of his jokes aside; he's very balanced when giving an opinion and does a great job at putting himself in another person's shoes.

The first story is insane. I personally wouldn’t have pulled that stunt but I would definitely divorce him and keep the baby away from him. He’s clearly neglectful and a POS

for the last story, if I was the wife I would take the food back to the food bank along with some of our stuff and show a pic of the husband to them and explain to them "this is my husband, we're well off, do NOT give him food". Then I might even buy less groceries than usual, just enough that he's slightly uncomfortable, so he can understand even the tiniest bit by showing him that discomfort is nothing and that's why the food banks are so important.

The “thot story” made me so mad. Like bro wym “colorful past”? Literally all she’s done is date 2 guys at two different times, and then be single for 2 years before being in a relationship with him for 4 entire years…like her past is a black and white photo in this day and age 😭

‘She waited until the moment he was getting out of the shower’ Does she time his showers? What, do you think she just knows when he’s going to be stepping into the room? Is she psychic? How on earth would she even be able to do that?! Is she just crouching outside the bathroom like a gremlin?

about the story with the girl mocking her dad, she’s already spoken to her father about his behaviour to no avail. people like that will not change just from words, they need to experience their own attitude, even her speaking to her dad after she mocked him would not have any success. seen so many parents like this so humiliating one parent that humiliates the other parent is an eye for an eye 🤷🏽‍♀️

for most food banks in the uk, you have to have a special slip issued by charities, governments, outreach programs etc. that shows whether ur entitled to food there, how much you can get (like if you need more for a dietary reason or because you have dependants) and if you have any allergies etc. so food doesn't get wasted and more people can be helped. tbh i think more countries should adopt this thing because it really helps out the most people it can

Yea but these things take time to issue and it won't work perfectly. I've been in a situation where I could barely afford 2 meals a day (I was 15) because my father wasn't paying alimony and my mother was unemployed. Because on paper I had money, I wouldn't have qualified for the food bank

I understand this but the reason that's not the standard is that you have to go through a lot of effort to achieve that and a lot of poor people either don't have the time and resources to do that or don't even know how. In the US for example (where I assume the story took place) food banks don't have such rules because it's meant to be available judgement-free and available with ease for any hungry person to just walk in and get food right when they need it. Sometimes you only need help for a little while or you find yourself in trouble very suddenly without warning. The time it takes to get the help is too long. These long wait times for help are a common criticism about the UK.

Lots of American agencies work the same way. At my workplace, customers/beneficiaries have to send in lots of documents - income verifications, bank statements, birth certificates/passports, etc. etc. - to determine whether they qualify for aid. It’s time consuming for both customers and staff. The upside is, some folks can access a wide range of services. The downside, it’s a confusing process to navigate. The more extreme someone’s situation, the harder it could be to focus on that process. If someone is truly hungry, I’d rather they get food first. Then they can think clearly enough to handle the rest. I think there’s a place for both kinds of systems.

yes, even in India there are ration shops where people from "Below Poverty Line" get ration cards and regularly get some amount of food

I wish I thought of that "mimicking the father" idea as a teen. Maybe it would've gotten the point across to my own dad. I grew up with a father and grandfather exactly like the man described. Genius and not the a-hole.

Since im from another country, these reddit stories just seem so crazy to me. A guy in a wedding dress threatened the bride, was so funny. In our culture recently married women wear their wedding dresses to others' weddings all the time, especially if they're close relatives although it does cause confusion, there's no social law against it instead you just expect that you'll see 3-4 brides in an event.

Same for mine except we don't have specialty wedding dresses. Well we do, but it's a more fancy version of our traditional clothes and its more the combination with makeup, jewelry, hair, and attention that help indicate who the real bride is. So re wearing your wedding dress to another wedding is still common.

28:28 I bet that the husband actually did want the OP to change outfit and that one small lie in this otherwise factual story paints the OP as the good guy, even though he probably wants the "childhood friend" narrative for himself.
